Salt Spring: Battle Royale

Rate this book
In 2055, it's been five years after the Liberation that overthrew the 1%. But in this climate of supposed harmony, the hippie haven of Salt Spring Island is in turmoil.

John Ellis, brother of prominent Liberation Council member Jamie Ellis has died, and it’s potentially murder. Fortunately, there's Maia Lam the Messiah - that is, Messiah of the Revolution #3049 and she’s been tasked with the investigation. If you knew Maia, this is not a good thing.

As Maia reluctantly starts her investigation, she becomes entangled in the island's complicated political groups, which include a climbing cult devoted to Hanuman the Monkey God and a bunch of hairy ReWilders dedicated to the Holy Earth Mother. Oh yeah, there’s also a really cute dude name Rene who's promising to be distracting.

Born in Montreal, Canada, Jack later moved to the West Coast (Vancouver) to do a doctoral degree that involved collecting many thousand ticks in the Okanagan Valley. He wasn't thrilled about the ticks either. Later, he dabbled in small-scale organic farming for a few years, during which he simultaneously developed an aversion to kale and fancy salad mixes, as well as the realization that farming wasn't all that lucrative. He now lives with his wife in Boulder, Colorado.
