Cultural references were great. Although there were some typos and grammar errors in the last 3rd of the book which made it confusing. An educational book in learning a language should have those ironed out.
This book should be renamed “The K-Pop Dictionary: Rough Draft”, because truly, that’s what it is— but since I was gifted this so-called dictionary, I decided to be a good sport and see it through regardless.
The lack of editor-work in this book is astounding; to the point where you cannot read more than two pages without there being a typo, a grammatical error or even a formatting mistake. This unfortunately makes this “dictionary” lose all credibility.
Now the contents of the book itself are fine for the most part; I liked how certain words/terms had their origin included, and I found it interesting how a great many Korean words actually take inspiration from Chinese or English words.
Each word/term listed in the dictionary comes with an example; while often useful to better understand word usage, most of these examples were either laughably bad or just downright crass.
While some of the Korean-Pop focused terms presented were nostalgic to me (as a 2nd generation K-Pop fan), it’s worth noting that not all of them are accurate/remain of relevance today.
That being said, if this dictionary already has an updated version out there… I can only hope it was properly worked on by an editior prior to publication.
It's a dictionary not a book. Lol dumb me treated this dictionary as a book. I only manage to go till H. Not bad though but I wouldn't read through it unless I'm really new and into kpop. Have been a kpop fan for more than 10 years and watched enough running man and stuff. I guess I know my Korean slang well enough to confidently skip the rest of the book. 😂
