This book has many layers. On worth layers is a deep look at many of the psalms revealing the thoughts and feelings of the psalm authors and the practical use of the psalms in praise and worship.
Another layer is the critical need for emotional intelligence amongst those who consider themselves spiritual, and particularly amongst those who are in positions of leadership and guidance.
A third layer is a detailed review of our emotions and how they affect ourselves, our loved ones and our associates.
A fourth layer is a review of the available literature about recognising and dealing with our emotions emotions as well as practical guidance for the reader in how to recognise and understand their emotional life by using the psalms as a guide.
There is a fifth biographical layer where we find out about the authors, his path, his achievements and where he thinks he could have done better, as well as how he renewed his self by coming to terms with his emotional life, making it work for him and his family, rather than being its slave.
Really good book and guide - the only reason I have given 4 stars is there were a few times I felt like the material was a bit closed-minded.
Overall, though, the book does a good job of using preaching and stories to work through praying the psalms. I’ll definitely use some of these frameworks moving forward.
