**Previously published as part of the Shadows and Light anthology**

I don't know what I am, but I'm not human...and neither are the creatures that killed my mom. Running will only carry me so far because there's a darkness within me, ready to destroy me, and a burning light, begging for escape. It's the light that screams to my pursuers and works them into a frenzy. Though the darkness might kill me, releasing the light might kill us all...

“The darkness makes shadows on our souls. Only by letting the light in do we have a chance.”

Why did I take so long to read this??? It was so amazing!

I had put off reading this because I am just not a fan of novellas. However today I decided that I didn’t want to get into a full length novel since I am anticipating reading a new book that releases tomorrow. So since I have read everything else by Melissa Haag and love all of her other books I figured that this was the perfect time. I am so glad I did too! I am just kicking myself for taking so long to read this!

Even though it is a novella, the story doesn’t feel rushed like I feel most are. Plus the storyline is so unique that I really want more in this world! It immediately pulls you in with this dark mystery surrounding Phoebe’s life. Who is she? What is she? Why is she running? What is she running from? And the most fascinating question of all: Who is the mysterious man she runs to when she has nowhere else to turn?

A bit dark but it had it's funny moments. I loved the support Willam gave to Phoebe. She endured a lot at such a jong age but mange to rise.

I liked it a lot, short and to the point, a new supernatural book, no others out there like it

This was a totally unique story. I've never read anything similar, and I absolutely loved that. The author did a great job of making me feel so invested in these characters in such a short amount of time. It's a novella, so it is very short. The story leaves you feeling complete, but yet yearning for more from this world. I'm crossing my fingers that someday this will become a full length story!

I just didn't connect with this story which is a shame because I love all of Melissa's books. I think if it had been a novel with more opportunity to expand the plot and explain things in more detail then that might have helped....the story structure, grammar, spelling etc is all at a high standard which I love about Melissa's books....guess this one just not for me.

"Reap the Shadow, Slay the Light" is sort of on the dark/heavy side. There's a twist you don't see coming, definitely worth a read. The author, Melissa Haag, pulls you into her story, even though it's a shorter story! Definitely reccomend this book as well as this author.

What was that?! I'm confused ... If this wasn't a short story I wouldn't have finished it and that really upsets me. I love Melissa Haag, and that is the only reason this one got 2 stars. Well, that and she did a phenomenal job at conveying Phoebe's emotion.
