BAMBADAMBAM.
Ja, so spannend wie das klingt, so ist das Buch auch. Ich glaube, ich habe mit dem Lesen dieses Buches einen neuen Rekord für aufgestellt. Ich habe es nämlich innerhalb von sage und schreibe sechs Stunden gelesen. Sprich: Suchtfaktor 1000000!
Isola hat ist im Vergleich zu den anderen Büchern von Isabel Abedi mal kein Fantasyroman, sondern eher eine Art Mysteryroman. Allerdings ist auch Isola ein Einteiler, was ich persönlich sehr sympathisch finde. die ganze Geldmacherei mit den Trilogien geht einem mit der Zeit ja doch etwas auf die Nerven und man fühlt sich quasi dazu gedrängt sich Band 2 und 3 zu besorgen, obwohl einem Band 1 nur mittelmäßig gefallen hat. Hier ist das anders. Die Geschichte ist mit dem Ende auch wirklich so abgeschlossen, dass es keinem weiteren Teil mehr bedarf.
Der Schreibstil ist in genauso gut wie auch bei Lucian, aber da das eine komplett andere Geschichte ist, ist das natürlich auch wieder etwas komplett Neues.
Vom ersten Moment an ist das Buch einfach nur spannend. Die Erzählgeschwindigkeit und die einschneidenden Ereignisse machen es schwer sich von der Geschichte loszureißen. Das Einzige, was mich ein wenig gestört hat war die Huntergrundgeschichte über Veras Vergangenheit. Das Ende war leider fast schon lieblos dahingeklatscht. Es kam nach der Auflösung nur eine Szene in der Veras Vergangenheit angeschnitten wird. Das hätte ich mir noch ausführlicher gewünscht vor allem, da sie für Vera als Person einen sehr hohen Stellenwert hatte... Aber ansonsten hab ich eigentlich nichts auszusetzen.
Die Charaktere waren einfach nur super autentisch und man kann ihre Handlungsweisen gut nachvollziehen. Allerdings war ich etwas von Darling enttäuscht. Sie war wirklich in jeder Hinsicht vorhersehbar.
Ich dachte eigentlich, dass das Spiel auf der Insel "nur" von selbst ausartet und dass sich die Spieler dann gegenseitig umbringen, aber das Ganze ist durch den Einfluss von außen noch mysteriöser und unheimlicher gesen. Und keine Sorge für alle Feinde von Gewalt: Es kommen das Gegenteil von viele Morde vor.

*4,5 ⭐️ Zum vierten Mal inhaliert. Ich habe das Buch damals vor zwölf Jahren gelesen und wahnsinnig geliebt. Es ist ein riesiger Teil meiner Jugend und wird es immer sein, weswegen ich gar nicht neutral bewerten kann. Mittlerweile ist der letzte Reread einige Jahre her und ich hatte Sehnsucht. Zugegebenermaßen ist die Hauptprotagonisten für mich mittlerweile zu passiv. Sie wirkt mehr wie eine stille Beobachterin und nicht wie eine Hauptprotagonisten. Sie spricht kaum mit den anderen und ich fand es manchmal sehr schwierig nachzuvollziehen, warum sie sich so abschottet. Und wer würde es nicht lieben mit Gleichaltrigen allein auf einer wunderschönen tropischen Insel zu sein? Dennoch habe ich wieder genau das bekommen, was ich wollte: Spaß, Spannung bis zur letzten Seite und außergewöhnliche Charaktere. Ich finde die Idee dahinter wahnsinnig gut umgesetzt und auch wie sich die Geschichte entwickelt ist einfach unglaublich cool umgesetzt. Die Szene in der Höhle, wo die Jugendlichen zusammen feiern, hat sich so in mein Gedächtnis eingebrannt und werde ich nie wieder vergessen genauso wie der Song der währenddessen läuft. Den Plottwist hatte ich schon wieder vergessen, aber das Ende ist emotional herzzerreißend - I love it!
Das einzige was mich etwas hat stutzig werden lassen und was mir vor über 10 Jahren nicht aufgefallen ist, ist der Rassismus. Zum Beispiel wird einmal das N-Wort einfach nebenbei als Vergleich gewählt, ohne dass es irgendwie Konsequenzen hat. Oder eine asiatisch aussehende Person wird immer wieder als „Chinese“ betitelt. Ich hoffe, dass das in neueren Auflagen nicht mehr so im Buch steht und man sich der Problematik inzwischen bewusst ist.

That was an interesting read - a German version of Hunger games in our world. Though the story was not entirely realistic, I could imagine something insane like this happening... The characters felt a bit flat, but I really enjoyed reading.

Мене так штормило під час читання, що просто не могла встидіти на місці! Я вже ладна була назвати цей трилер одним із кращих (категорії y-a) в моєму житті...але кінець все посував.
Так, фінал тут збіса неочікуваний і підозрюю, що навіть найбільші скептики не зможуть його передбачити. АЛЕ
Є одне величезне АЛЕ. Саме у фіналі в мене виникло враження, що мене ошукали.
Почасти так і є, бо тут застосований саме такий "незаконний" прийом, а я таке не люблю....
Словом, я не можу сказати більше, бо не хочу спойлерити. Трилер без сумніву крутий і я щиро раджу його поціновувачам жанру, але майте на увазі, у фіналі може виникнути відчуття, ніби вам дали лапас 😁

Perskaičiau štai jaunimo auditorijai skirtą trileriuką ‘Izola’. Isabel Abedi vieną knygą – ‘Kuždesį’ – jau senokai buvaiu skaičiusi, tuomet jis netgi buvo skirtas mano tikslinei grupei ir labai patiko. Šį kartą, nors aišku ir teko žvelgti į viską per atstumą, įspūdis taip pat liko labai geras.
Žvelgiant per atstumą, t.y. aiškiai suprantant, kad tai yra lengvas kūrinėlis jaunam ne itin išrankiam žmogui, šita knyga yra tarsi parašyta pagal visus kanonus. Keli jaunuoliai, atskirti nuo tėvų, visi labai saviti, su savo bėdomis ir problemomis, kai kurie galbūt ir nėra itin išbaigti, bet labai ryškūs ir kiekvienas turi savo indėlį į istoriją. Yra ir gražuolė vilioklė, ir nuoširdi pleputė, ir seksualus pasipūtėlis, ir jautrus kačiokas, o dar gražus vienišius ir mergina, kurios slepiama praeitis daug tamsesnė nei kitų. Jie vienas kitam kažką jaučia, bet čia viskas tyra ir gražu. Nuolat auganti įtampa, lengvos užuominos, kurios kažkuriuo metu įgauna pavidalą ir susitinka stulbinamoje kulminacijoje. Na galbūt ir ne viskas joje pribloškia, kai ką įtarei, kai ką numanei, bet vis tiek stebiesi kaip įdomiai čia viskas susisuko. Logika galbūt ir išeina kartais kur nors pasivaikščioti, bet tikrai būna ir blogiau, net ir kūriniuose, kurie taiko į aukštas sferas.
O šitas kūrinys paprastas, pasakoja istoriją apie sužeistos sielos įvaikintą merginą ir jos norą sugrįžti pas seserį. Apie tragišką, tiesiog holivudišką, bet skaudžią ir tiesos krislų turinčią šeimos istoriją. Apie liūdnus, bet nesuprastus vaikus. Apie vienišumą ir pirmykštė baimę. O kad viskas būtų daug įdomiau, visa tai įvelkama į pašėlusio tempo trileriuką. Ir nieko čia itin neprikiši. Ir pabaiga graži. Viskas susidėlioja į savo vietas.
Patinka man šita autorė ir pati nežinau, kodėl ankščiau jos kaip reikiant neįsikibau – būtų tiesiog pribloškęs ir šitas romanas. Bet ir dabar patiko.

Nachdem Mandy und Sofia vom Buchcast Mafia beide gut von diesem Jugendthriller gesprochen haben und ich bereits einige Bücher von Isabel Abedi gelesen habe, musste ich mir diesen Titel auch noch zulegen und wurde nicht enttäuscht!
Die erste Hälfte des Buchs hat mich absolut begeistert, ich habe sie in einem Rutsch weggelesen und dachte echt „Wow! Es ist absolut genial!“. Ich fand sie total spannend und wollte von Seite 1 an direkt auf die Insel, weshalb ich an manchen Stellen in den ersten Kapiteln extra schnell gelesen habe :D
Leider galt das aber für die zweite Hälfte nicht mehr. Irgendwie ist die Spannung für mich total abgeflacht und es konnte mich nicht mehr so stark begeistern. Und dazu muss ich ehrlich sagen: Ich versteh es nicht. Ich weiß nicht, was passiert ist. Ich mochte nämlich, wie sich die Geschichte entwickelt hat und das es, für meine Verhältnisse, auch nicht zu brutal war. Auch die Charaktere fand ich toll und es hat mir Spaß gemacht, sie zu begleiten. Und dass so viele portugiesische Wörter drinnen stehen!!! (Ich mache gerade mein B1.2 in der Sprache deswegen die Freude darüber :D)
Warum habe ich dann „nur“ 3.5 Sterne vergeben?
Nun, 3 Sterne bedeuteten für mich, dass ich ein Buch mochte, was auf „Isola“ aber auch zutrifft. 4 Sterne bedeuten, dass ich es sehr mochte, was auch auf die erste Buchhälfte zutrifft, ABER auch, dass ich das Buch erneut lesen würde. Und das ist bei diesem Buch leider nicht der Fall. Dafür hat mir die Auflösung nicht gut genug gefallen und das Ende war mir auch etwas zu kurz abgefrühstückt, da hätte ich mir gewünscht, dass es noch ein paar zusätzliche Kapitel oder ein „2 Jahre später …“ gegeben hatte.
Fazit: Ein solider Jugendthriller, besonders für Einsteiger:innen geeignet ist und für gute Unterhaltung zwischendurch sorgt!

Keine neue Idee, klischeehafte Charaktere und ein Kniff am Ende, der mir zu unpassend war.
Trotzdem konnte es mich ganz gut unterhalten und war teilweise auch echt spannend :)

The story of Isola is very interesting but it could've been so much more. It's a "Young Adult" book and you can feel that throughout the whole tale - everything happens in a rush, there's not much room for detail and development.
I really wish there would've been more character developement and interaction. The author sometimes writes about how her protagonist (Vera) has made a connection to one of the others, but the reader can't really feel that. Additionaly, the author made up some nice character concepts, but doesn't use them. For example, one mysterious girl seems interesting and important at the beginning, but she barely gets two pages in the spotlight before she's out of the plot.
Besides from the realtionship of the protagonists every other connection between the characters is "just there". That's somehow reasoned due to the fact that the reader sees everything through Vera's eyes (and she's not a creep that lurks in the shadows to see the others interacting), but she never even thinks about anything that happens between the others. It feels like she doesn't care, but afterwards the author wants to tell us that she liked the others so much. Yeah sure.
Well, enough with the ranting, the story itself was nice. I was NEVER bored or anything and there were some really thrilling moments, I just wished for more detail, emotion and love for the plot.
There's one special plottwist, though, which is surprisingly well developed. For this one event, there are hints and details everywhere in the story and I still didn't see it coming.
The ending is as rushed as everything else, but I finished the book with a good feeling. It was nice and surely not a waste of time, it just didn't touch me as I hoped it would.

I saw this book in library, I liked the synopsis, so I took it home. I wasnt' heard about Isabel Abedi before, but I wanted to give it a try. I was hoping for intense events, but that wasn't what I get. I think there was enough space to play harder with this story, go to different story line. I wish author would have done that, because it was too... nice for me. Also, I felt like characters could have been stronger. But I'm not saying that "Isola" was was bad book, it really wasn't. I just wanted more "wow" factor.
However, even book make me feel quite bored, I liked it. After all story had something special that got me into it. That and Isabel Abedi writing style, which I really enjoyed. Moreover, multicolored characters made me choose my favorites (it was the dog) and I haven't read that kind of book before, so that got a + too :) So it's good book for lazy evening, because it's easy to read and don't bring up much emotions :)

Isola is definitely my favorite book. I love every book of Isabel Abedi and I could read this book over and over again without getting bored. This book is a brilliant combination of a crime, love and a game. I really enjoyed the ending because it was so unpredictable but on the other hand quit realistic and it was not a complete happy ending which makes it definitely more real and better.
Furthermore I can identify with the main character because she is just a normal girl like you and me and it's not one of this characters hat is perfect and does everything he or she wants and can.
This book is awesome and everyone should read it.

Schöne Wochenendlektüre. Super flüssig geschrieben. Erst als der Schluss naht, wird es etwas holprig und mich ließ der Schluss mit einem Augenrollen zurück.
Aber gutes und solides Jugendbuch. Wer Maze Runner, Tribute von Panem mag eine klare Empfehlung. Auch wegen der Kürze

Максимально легкий та в чомусь передбачуваний підлітковий трилер. Мені скрасив пару вечорі, бо це було дуже легке та атмосферне читання.
Проте історія проста й дуже легко здогадатися в чому ж головна інтрига. Декорації дуже літні: острів, спека, пляж, пальми й бунтівні підлітки 🙈🌝

Для підліткового віку, напевно, ок, проте у мене не здригнувся жоден нерв. Задумка чудова, сюжет динамічний, а вийшло якось ні те, ні се. Як емпат, який має тяжіння до проживання емоцій героїв у книгах, мушу визнати, що ця історія за цим фактом напівпритомна.
І ніби не так вже й поверхнево, як у звичному попкорновому читанні, однак це вийшло надто простеньким. Плюс типу: ну ось є розвʼязка, й добре. 12 героїв же, ще є кілька додаткових, тут можна було так розгорнутись всілякими психологічними зачіпками, історіями, вадами та мотивами! А в фіналі добрячою рефлексією з урахування нових вхідних. Ех, профукано…
На пару вечорів, щоби провітрити думки, й все.
І ніби не так вже й поверхнево, як у звичному попкорновому читанні, однак це вийшло надто простеньким. Плюс типу: ну ось є розвʼязка, й добре. 12 героїв же, ще є кілька додаткових, тут можна було так розгорнутись всілякими психологічними зачіпками, історіями, вадами та мотивами! А в фіналі добрячою рефлексією з урахування нових вхідних. Ех, профукано…

I reread this book for the fourth? time I think... It's still a wonderful book! You could easily read it in one setting as there are no parts where it gets boring and you have to kind of force yourself to keep reading! Love it! (Also the protagonist has the same name as I which makes this book even better)

Tolles Buch, jedoch war der Einstieg sehr lange und man muss erst mal in das Buch reinkommen.
Ab ca. Seite 150 wird es spannend und man hat Lust weiterzulesen.
Das Buch kann man auch sehr schnell lesen also man braucht sehr viel weniger lang als bei anderen Büchern mit der selben Anzahl von Seiten.
Deshalb von mir ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐.
Wegen dem etwas langweiligen Einstieg.

Dieses Buch habe ich im Bücherschrank am Osnabrücker Bahnhof gefunden und innerhalb von einer Woche durch gelesen. Allein deshalb, bekommt es schon ein paar Sterne. Leider habe ich den Text oft eher überflogen aber wollte bis zum Ende wissen, worum es hier eigentlich geht. Ist es ein Buch, in dem ehrlich Menschen sterben und es gruselig wird oder ist es eher ein harmloses Kinder-und Jugendbuch? Ich würde sagen, es ist eine Mischung und deshalb so einfach zu lesen. Eine "fesselnde Liebesstory", wie angekündigt, war es jetzt auch nicht unbedingt aber ein fesselndes Buch schon :)

I'm very happy every time I see a ya thriller/mystery. Compared to other genres such as romance, contemporary, fantasy or even horror I see very little or no books of thriller or mystery on the shelf of the library I use. So of course I have to borrow it when I see one.
The synopsis was very intriguing but actual story was a little let down for me. Actually not even the story. Honestly I have zero problems with the story. The story is perfectly fine and if I think about it, it's actually very well done. As the story progress the tension increases until the point of reveal at the end, which has a nice twist. The story and the way it's written is appropriate for teenagers and I think it's the perfect book for someone who doesn't want to read teenage contemporaries and romances (like I never wanted). Don't get me wrong I recommend this book to every one but especially those lost souls (like I was) at age 15 or so that don't know what to read because they feel too old for "teenage romance stories" and too young for adult books.
Okay so now let's continue with problems I had with the book, which I slightlystarted implied in previous paragraph.
Relationship between Vera and Solo: I am not a fan of insta love. Very few books that have insta love work for me (The sun is also a star is one of those exceptions). I'm sorry but how? How can, in this case, Vera fall in love with Solo after a few deep glances. HOW?? Seriously they didn't even have a real conversation, maybe they exchanged few words, when she realizes that she loves him. Or is in love with him. Same thing. I get that romance isn't the main topic of the book but still... come one at least use different words like crush or something. (but than again I read translated version so the original might be different. But from the context I doubt it.)
It was little too depressed: at some points in the book it was really hard for me to continue because it was just too dark and depressed. And not in a good way. Especially at the beginning. The start was quite a torture for me. It got better and I think it could be even more better if the start was lighter so the transit from this happy place to a nightmare would be even bigger.

Май трябва да започна с това, че финалът ми разби сърцето! :'(
Помня, че при първия прочит на книгите на авторката, бях възхитена от необичайния й стил на писане и психо сюжета във всеки един неин роман. Е, и сега е така! Хареса ми атмосферата, играта на нерви, психарското в книгата, персонажите. Абе, всичко ми допадна.
Главните герои имаха тежко минало, което писателката го беше поднесла по много добър начин-мистериозно, искайки ти се да четеш, докато не научиш какво се случва. Имаше и един друг герой, който не се знаеше кой е до последните страници. Беше представено по един загадъчен начин, от който на моменти те побиват тръпки.
Беше ми тъжно какво стана с Тобиас и как се беше отнесъл Квинт с него. Не исках да приключва така неговата история.
Искаше ми се да е по-дълга книгата. Беше ми мъчно, когато свърши. Нямам какво друго да напиша, защото ще се издам, а най-хубавото е тръпненето в очакване да разбулиш мистерията.
Определено препоръчвам! Може би една от най-добрите книги, които съм прочела до този момент през тази година.

I love the general plot and it was fantastically written. What amazed me most is how Isabel Abedi characterized 12 people so vividly and subtle that it wasn't hard for me to distinguish them at all.
The story was very gripping in its content and the way it was described even though I was a little bit annoyed by the amount of Vera's inner monologue and that she hardly ever said anything aloud but I guess that's just because I'm a whole different person.
The twists at the end were very unexpected to me and I loved all the turns the story took.
The German audiobook production was read extremely well but I hated the music they played between chapters, mostly a cheery guitar tune that felt completely misplaced especially when the story gets darker and darker.
Some details with SPOILERS:
At two points I questioned Vera's behaviour. First when she just gets up and dances at the beach. It just didn't seem like her even though she loves dancing. Would she really get up and show all these strangers so much of her? The second scene was at the party when she drinks the alcohol and smokes the Shisha without hesitation. I doubted that Vera would do that. She would at least have a "do I? don't I?" discussion in her head.
I really liked the in-between chapters from Tobias' perspective because in the end you realize that he has been there all along (and that those had been his chapters instead of Quint Tempelhoff's). If him being Solo's twin would've just been revealed without these chapters it would have been less believable.
What annoyed me a little were all the repetitions at the end when Milky, Elfe, Alpha, Solo and Vera watch the camera scenes on the other island. There just were too many which was boring.

i'm very undecided on what to rate this. in parts, i liked this book more than i thought i would, but some things i was very much not a fan of. three stars for middle ground, i guess.
pros:
- the cast of characters, which was very diverse
- the setting: brazil's culture became a big part of the story through the main character's identity, and i felt it was genuinely good representation
- the tension: even though i didn't think i would like the twist (because i usually think that kind of plot device is a cheap solution), the author actually pulled it off quite well and i was really engaged in the story
- the writing. a solid thriller overall.
cons:
- the n-word is used (i guess when this was published it wasn't considered a bad word yet? idk). also, at one point, a character insults another by calling him gay. that's in the voice of the character though.
- the romantic storyline, which was too insta-love for me. i could not see the attraction between the two love interests.
- darling's character: at first, she was nothing more than a stereotypical hot mean girl, overdone to the point where i thought there must be more to her because it was so cartoonish. well, there was more to her, but it wasn't really believable, because we never learn about her motivations or her backstory, so that part fell flat.
