I got annoyed with Tar Yar Min Wai's character (again!). He thinks himself as the one who doesn't follow crowd, a thinker, a more-than-your-average-boy type yet he keeps making fun of people's appearances, people for being "Kalar". Granted it was first written in 2006, it was more or less accepted back then. But, to me, the writer tried to bite more than he can chew. Trying too hard to be unique and ended up being a cliché. I felt like watching a boring Myanmar student movie from 2000s where the boy is a unique underdog who tried to annoy the girl who, apart from being pretty, has no character. When the character started to make fun of the speech impediment of another guy he hates, that's when I closed the book for good. Done!

သီဟသစ်နဲ့နှင်းဆီဖြူရဲ့ အချစ်နဲ့မာနလွန်ဆွဲပုံကတော့ အပြင်မှာလည်း မြင်ရလေ့ရှိတတ်တာမလို့ လက်တွေ့ဆန်တယ်လို့ ခံစားရတယ်.. အဆုံးထိ ဖတ်ပီးသွားတဲ့ခါ သာမန်ကျောင်းသားအချစ်ဇာတ်လမ်းဆိုပေမယ့် လူငယ်တွေရဲ့ တက္ကသိုလ်ဘဝဖြတ်သန်းပုံတွေ၊ သူငယ်ချင်းတွေကြားက ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာတွေကို မြင်တွေ့ရတော့ ကျောင်းသားဘဝကိုတောင် ပြန်လွမ်းမိတယ်..

ကျောင်းသားဘဝက တာရာမင်းဝေစာအုပ်အချို့ကို အပျော်သဘောဖြင့်သာ ဖတ်ခဲ့ဖူးသည်။ ယခုမှသာ သူ၏နာမည်ကြီး ရွှေဖိနပ်မှာအစိမ်းရောင်ကြက်ခြေခတ်နဲ့ကောင်မလေးကို ဖတ်မိသည် — ဖတ်နေရင်းဖြင့်ပင် တာရာမင်းဝေ၏ဖန်းတီးနိုင်မှုကို အကြိမ်ကြိမ်ဩချရသည်။ ဤစာအုပ်သည် သူ၏မာစတာပိစ့်စာအုပ်ပင် ဖြစ်ရချေမည်။ သူ၏အရေးအဖွဲ့တင်ပြပုံကောင်းမှုကြောင့် ဝထ္တုနှင့်ပင်မတူ၊ ဇော်ဂျီ၏ဗေဒါလမ်းကဗျာကဲ့သို့ ဟိုမာ၏အိုဒက်စီ၊ အိလိ့ယက်ကဗျာတို့ကို ဖတ်နေရသကဲ့သို့ပင် ခံစားမိသည်။ စကားလုံးများမှာ အလွန်ပင်အနုပညာမြောက်သော ဖန်းတီးချက်များစွာပါဝင်သည်။ မြန်မာစာ စကားလုံးများကိုတီထွင် ဖွဲ့နွဲ့သွားပုံမှာ ဟိုယခင်က သိန်းဖေမြင့်ကဲ့သို့ပင် ထူးချွန်လှသည်။ ကျနော်ကတော့ တာရာမင်းဝေကို မြန်မာနေဘိုကော့ (Burmese Nabokov) ဟုပင် တင်စားမိချင်သည်။ စကားလုံးများကို လုပ်ချင်သလိုလုပ်ကာ ဖန်တီးတတ်၍ဖြစ်၏။ အောက်တွင် သူ၏စကားလုံးအချို့ကို နမူနာတွေ့ရနိုင်သည်။
"ငုံ့ကြည့်တော့ ပလက်ဖောင်းဖြူဖြူ၊ မော့ကြည့်တော့ ကောင်းကင်ဖြူဖြူ၊ အဝေးကိုကြည့်တော့ မီးခိုးဖြူဖြူ၊ အနီးကိုကြည့်တော့ နံရံဖြူဖြူ။
ရင်ထဲမှာတော့ နှင်းဆီဖြူဖြူ... "
"သူက ပါးစပ်လေး ဟပြပါတယ်။ နှုတ်ခမ်းလေးတွေ ဝိုင်းဟထားပြီး ကျွန်တော့်ကိုကြည့်နေပုံက သိဝိမင်းသာမြင်ရင် ဆင်ပေါ်ကပြုတ်ကျဦးမှာပါပဲ။"
"ဟင့်အင်း ထားလိုက်ပါ။ မဖြေချင်ဘူး။ အမှားတွေဖြေပြမှ နိုင်ရမယ်ဆိုရင်လည်း မနိုင်ချင်ပါဘူး။ ရှုံးတာမှ မြတ်သေးတယ်..."
"အနီးကပ်မြင်နေရတဲ့ သူ့ရဲ့ရွှေမျက်နှာလေးဟာ သိပ်လှတာပဲ။ အဲ့ဒီအလှကို မပိုင်ပန်းကြည့်သလို ကြည့်ရတာ ရင်ထဲမှာ နာတယ်။"
