Peter & Emily

Rate this book
Emily Beckett is exactly where she doesn't want to be: stuck at home with her brother while her friends are out celebrating the end of the summer.

But then, a boy appears on the balcony outside Emily's room. He's dressed in green, and says his name is Peter Pan. He's there for one reason: he's looking for someone to have an adventure with.

And with that, Emily is off, whisked to the world of Never Land, a place filled with sailing ships, tropical islands, pirates, mermaids, fairies, and flying machines.

However, Emily soon discovers Peter hasn't brought her there only to experience Never Land's wonders. His friends have been captured by a demented man named Captain Hook, and Peter believes--without a shadow of a doubt--that Emily is the only one who can help get them back.

In this thrilling continuation of the PETER PAN story, join friends old and new on an adventure in a Never Land that's been changed forever--for better or for worse.

This started out a little rushed (I mean it's only 124 pages after all) and I was worried that the story wouldn't come together.
"It's a beautiful night to face death right in her bloody eyes, don't you think?"
I needn't have worried.
Charlie Wood has a wonderful talent for dropping bombs of awesome on you when you least expect it!
This is only my 2nd book in his library and I am addicted!
The book ends with a
I am EXCITED!!!
Much love to Charlie Wood for my DRC.

Has potential.

I would have liked this one more without the language and the ten-year-old pervert.
The plot twist was interesting, and changing the maturity level to match the older Peter Pan worked, but the ending kind of fell flat.
I wanted to enjoy the storyline, however what really detracted from the whole piece was that Tim was described as more innocent than his friends and then portrayed as a pervert. This inconsistency tainted the rest of the book for me and made it difficult to like.
Also, what was the point of the shadow people, other than to get Emily to go with Peter? There is no real explanation about them. Just a quick battle and on to Neverland. Why even mention them unless they will play a greater role later on? If you ask me, it just leaves the reader with more questions than answers.
It wasn't a terrible story, but it needs to be edited for consistency and a few grammar errors. Other than that, if you can get past such inconsistencies, you might enjoy it more than I did.

For my clean readers:
Includes language, violence, underage drinking, and talk of topless mermaids.

I have received this novel through GoodReads Giveaway.

I LOVED this novel!!!

Have you ever wondered what would other adventures of Peter Pan be? Have you ever wonder what Peter Pan And Tinkle Bell and Wendy were doing now?
Well... Grab a copy of "Peter and Emily. The Girl From New York" and embrace yourself for a wild ride.

This novel is so much fun. It is such a delightful read.
There is magic, and stempunk like pirate, witches and fairies. Incredible mix of characters and a lot of adventures.

Emily is a teenager who got grounded and on Friday night she is babysitting her 10 years old brother Tim. Than there appears a strange boy on her balcony. His name is Peter Pan.
He brings Emily and Tim ( mostly against their wishes) to Never Land.
Emily learns about her identity. She is also expected to help Peter Pan and fairies rescue their friends.

I can't wait to read the next novel in the series!

Peter and Emily is an updating of the Peter Pan story, now set in New York. It really helps to be familiar with the original J. M. Barrie tale of the boy who didn't want to grow up, his band of lost boys, pirates, fairies, and natives. Unfortunately, it is a bit slow in the middle but definitely picks up at the end. There may be a follow up with Emily that I would look forward to reading.
I hope that Thomas Hayes continues reinvigorating life into the classic tales for a new generation of readers.
I received this book as a goodreads win.

A new chapter to an old story

I thought this would just be the same Peter Pan just told from a modern day perspective, it is not. This contains the next chapter and it was enchanting. The surprises that are revealed are masterfully told. I had no idea about the girl and was shocked and sad when I found out about her. The last chapter is amazing and starts us on another next chapter in another favorite story. I look forward to learning new things there as well.

This was a really good story. The only problem was...…………..there wasn't more of it. LOL. This was a great take on the classic story. Very unique.

Peter Pan in New York? Well, it could happen. This story is full of adventure and some unexpected twists, and even though it reads like well-developed fan fiction, it's still a fun read. The caveat is that there is some, albeit mild, swearing, so I would not recommend it for very young readers. There is a teaser at the end that it may become a series, and I would be interested in reading it.

Peter Pan has aged (all the way to a teenager) and needs Emily's help, so he flies to New York and has to convince her to come with him to Never Land. Emily is skeptical, but eventually agrees. Hook has become a cyborg and much meaner than he used to be. What is going to happen?

I always say that when I finish a book with a satisfying ending, I will not read he prologue, because I had closure, and then bam!....things change.
When I finished this book, I was at peace. Then!!! I read the prologue, which was a set up for the next book. WHAT!!!!!! Now I am going to get sucked into this series. I am not going to say what happens, it's a huge spoiler, but I am looking forward to reading it.

If you ever wondered what happened to Hook, Peter, or Tink then this book is for you. A continuation of their story after the Clock Croc battle!!
It's very well written and keeps you reading no matter what so sit back, relax and continue with this fairy tale of magic and mayhem!

Good YA book but watch out for the ending.

One surprise I'm not telling. It was an enjoyable read. I don't enjoy reading one book that leads to another book. I prefer one story at a time. Not one that leads to another. Makes me feel as if I am being pressured to buy the next book!

Still gave five stars. It was an enjoyable read.

This was a different spin on the story of Peter Pan and Tinker Bell. It was definitely different than what I am used to reading. I enjoyed this book though makes you think back to the story of Peter Pan and his nemesis Captain Hook.

I loved this story. it is a new twist on a retelling. not really a retelling as an update on what the characters are doing now.

Brilliant idea, less-than-brilliant execution. Still, I definitely recommend it for any Peter fans! It's fun, it's quick and it will certainly bring back some of those growing up feels.

Different but good

This started out like any normal telling of Peter Pan but turned into a really great story. Loved how it incorporated the time lapse into the story.

One of my favorite takes on Peter Pan, it's like a 50 years after the Peter Pan story we all know.
At first starts a bit "Whaaat???" Then it takes form, and oh my. Brilliant idea, great writing, amazing story, I really loved it, it seemed like the end was a bit fast, but the dialogue was magnificent and erased that.
As a short story, it doesnt feel like it, however after the first half, you wont be able to put it down.
The story and the characters developed greatly, for a short story where everything is happening so fast, you can understand all of it, nothing seems out of place, and all of it makes sense. (You got to believe thou ;))
I am super intrigued for the second part!

Fast paced but not my cup of tea

I think this is better suited to casual Pan fans. For me, the characters were altered too much from their original selves to feel like I was truly revisiting Neverland. The writing isn't exceptional but it's not horrible, either - it's fine.

Readers should know the epilogue is really the setup for a sequel.

I went back and forth with this book. I liked it in some places, other places had me questioning things. It was going good...until the end...when we crossed with the Wizard of Oz. That threw me a loop and not one I wanted to be in. Overall, it was a quick and easy read. Enjoyable. Not my favorite retelling so I probably won’t be reading it again.

👌👌

My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.

Absolutely loved this!

If you're looking for a cute and interest new take on Peter Pan, then this is the book for you. I loved Emily and the story she uncovers in Never Land, as well as the connection to other fairytales. This gave me all the Once Upon a Time vibes in a YA package.
Definitely recommend.

3.5 stars. Another great retelling of Peter Pan. I wasn’t expecting the twist on Emily. That was pretty awesome. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of information about the “witch” that was talked about.

A bit too derivative of Peter Pan to be truly enjoyable and original.

While I realize that some suspension of belief is necessary for fantasy novels to exist, I found it impossible to get past the idea that someone in the current time would not know anything about Peter Pan or any of the characters in the story. This made it very difficult for me to get into the story and enjoy it.
