Jane's dream of being a missionary was finally coming true. Too bad going into the field as a private detective meant someone had to die.
“This is a tricky one.” Flora handed Jane a slim file folder. “The client is panicking.”
Jane sat across from Flora in the cluttered office of the Senior Corps of Retired Investigators. Driving rain from the day’s storm smeared the drafty window. The heater had clicked on moments before with the dusty but cozy odor shared by all old buildings. She pulled her sweater a little tighter and opened the folder. It held a one-page dossier and an itinerary from Travelocity. At first glance, she saw nothing shocking. “What’s the problem?”

The Senior Corps of Retired Investigators has a case for Jane. A father is unsure of his daughter's new boyfriend, and wants the guy investigated. He hires the SCRI, and they put Jane on the case. It involves going undercover in the mission field. Sounds perfect for Jane. She get credit toward her PI license, and she gets to do missionary work, which is her dream. Even better, Jake goes along on the mission trip with Jane.
A Christian cozy mystery. The 7th book in the Plain Jane Mystery series. Jane finally makes it to the mission field. She and Jake travel with a mission group to an orphanage in Mexico. Not only is Jane working a case, but she does mission work, and uncovers some questionable practices of those involved with the orphanage.
This series weaves an interesting story line. Trying to make a hard decision on being a missionary or an private investigator Judy is trying to earn private investigator license before doing missionary work.
I love this series and was so happy to read another installment. Jane has truly matured into a levelheaded detective. I liked this story but it wasn't my favorite. The execution felt a bit rushed to me but it is still good and still worth reading.
What goes together better than missions and murder
When Jane and Jake are assigned to investigate the boyfriend of a young heiress on a missions trip they get more than they bargained for. Can Jane do her job? Can she solve the murder of the dead man she discovers?
This was a fun book to read . I love a good mystery and the Plain Jane books fulfill that love and I really enjoy the banter between Jane and Jake.
