Pastor Lance Thornton has everything a man could have ever prayed for, a loving supportive wife-Camille, two children-Maxwell and Janelle, who are working towards their goals and a prospering church in Birmingham, Alabama. Even with all of this, Lance is not omitted from sinning. He experiences the same temptations as the next man. Lance thinks he is untouchable and has all of the answers until secrets are exposed and his livelihood is threatened. What happens when he strays and it all catches up to him? Officer Maxwell Thornton, Lance’s son has his own demons to deal with. Right now he’s young and having fun. His life consists of partying, meaningless sex with different girls every other night. That’s the life he enjoys and he doesn’t want anything to change. When his long-time girlfriend suddenly gets pregnant, Maxwell has some decisions to make. It’s time for him to put all the shenanigans to the side and step up to the plate. During all of this, Maxwell learns that he has an unexpected love interest that has fallen head over heels for him. What happens when life happens and becomes too much for him to bear? Janelle Thornton, daughter of Camille and Lance, lives thousands of miles away in Daytona Florida. She’s living by the motto, what her family doesn’t know can’t hurt them. She’s is not the angel her family thinks she is. She’s in and out of the clinics with STD’s and abortions. Janelle and her on again and off again boyfriend Luke is always in some kind of trouble. Trouble always seems to find them. After a chance encounter with the police, Janelle learns Luke has been keeping secrets from her and she’s left confused. Is the person she thought she’s been seeing all of this time the actual person he says he is? Could this bad girl change her bad ways? A Family That Strays is a drama-filled story about a family who does their dirt in the dark, but we all know what happens in the dark will come to light or does it?
Since this book was a selection from my book club, I didn't read the synopsis, which allowed me to walk into it with zero expectations. By the end, I was shouting AMEN!
Pastors and their families are often looked at as some super human species that don't face trials & tribulations because of their connection to God. This book was an incredible quest of humanizing the beloved first family as well as reminding the reader that their is no challenge too big for God. From the abusive Pastor, to the tired wife, to the confused son as well as the daughter on the road to harlot-villa, none of it is too big for God, and he author did a fantastic job of capturing and delivering that message.
This was my first Lore read, but I can 100% guarantee it won't be my last!
This really was a good book. It showed to think twice before you allow lust to reign. Jesus forgives but Lance and Maxwell will carry the stripes of a whip named Vernae😁
This book was a good read the pastor shady and really a stray . The dish that he serve his wife it return in his favor . I really enjoy this book .. and I hope the real pastor are not living the Thornton's story
LAWD!! These characters had me ready to fight!! The Thornton family had their share of drama!! I swear you can only do your dirt for so long before you have to be accountable for your mess!!
I really enjoyed this book. It was short but full of action! Very redeeming qualities from the characters and surprise hea's. Hope there is a follow up!
Very creative and realistic characters and story. Love how the author weaves in the morality and word of the Bible pertaining to the story. Love this author and great series!
Lore always keeps me entertained with his his stories, which are greatly intriguing. I'm praying for a part two because that Pastor Thornton is a ratchet mess. I need to know what's up with Maxwell, and Vernae, geesh I have no words for her...Great Job Lore...
Wow this was a good book to read. The story line was written very well. I liked the characters . I hope the author will finish the story about the side girl Vanea and her family. I will be following .
It was too strange that Lance, as a pastor of a large church, was never confronted regarding his transgressions. He obviously let his position go to his head and used it to prey on others. He was a hard learner, too. I'm not sure he got all he deserved but I guess that was one point of the story. I loved the ending. And I especially appreciated that it was a stand alone title.
I was shocked at all the deceit that took place in this book. Lance took Camille through so much but, that think called karma caught up with him. I couldn't believe he demoted his life long housekeeper, to move in his mistress. Vernae was a piece of work to ageee, to move into the house with Lance and also hooking up with Maxwell. Once Maxwell found out that Vernae was with the daf, he should have left well enough alone.
As alway, I love the stories Lore put together. They are so much more than the average urban books. His books come with unexpected twists that have you reading until the end.
