Joseph Conrad was a Polish-British novelist and story writer. He is regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language and, although he did not speak English fluently until his twenties, he became a master prose stylist who brought a non-English sensibility into English literature. He wrote novels and stories, many in nautical settings, that depict crises of human individuality in the midst of what he saw as an indifferent, inscrutable, and amoral world.
Conrad is considered a literary impressionist by some and an early modernist by others, though his works also contain elements of 19th-century realism. His narrative style and anti-heroic characters, as in Lord Jim, for example, have influenced numerous authors. Many dramatic films have been adapted from and inspired by his works. Numerous writers and critics have commented that his fictional works, written largely in the first two decades of the 20th century, seem to have anticipated later world events.
Writing near the peak of the British Empire, Conrad drew on the national experiences of his native Poland—during nearly all his life, parceled out among three occupying empires—and on his own experiences in the French and British merchant navies, to create short stories and novels that reflect aspects of a European-dominated world—including imperialism and colonialism—and that profoundly explore the human psyche.

I have finally finished after nearly 16 months, but it was worth the effort as Conrad is one of the best.

While I was familiar with Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness' I'd never read it. I read through that quickly and realized what a really gifted writer Conrad was. From well developed themes to descriptive language that truly painted pictures for me, I found myself feeling like I was there. The settings are exotic and the time frame is late 19th century. I've only read about 25% of the collection. I have about 75 hours of material left to read.

I have not read all the works in this collection, but so far the quality of the edition seems fine--a few typos here and there, but no major issues with the text or readability. There are separate ToCs for each novel, as well as the main ToC for the volume, making it easy to find your way around on a Kindle. Conrad has an extensive vocabulary and on occasion likes to go for a lesser-known word. Most of them, though, can be easily accessed through the dictionary on the Kindle. The novels speak for themselves. Conrad is an author much admired by other writers. While his style may seem a bit antiquated now, there is no denying his powers of characterization and description.
