During a routine background check of a Special Agent applicant an FBI lab tech discovers the young man's fingerprints are an identical match to not one but two other people already in the system. Aside from actual confessions more crimes have been solved by fingerprints than any other type of evidence, and this discovery could throw legal systems around the world into chaos--if it becomes public knowledge. Powerful government forces in the FBI and beyond immediately try to remove all the evidence--which includes the idealistic lab tech who made the discovery and Dave Anderson, the young man whose dream it has been to become an FBI Special Agent. The racially divided gritty dystopia that is modern Detroit provides the backdrop as forces move against Anderson--but young men drawn to law enforcement are rarely blank pages, and Anderson already has more than his share of secrets. The question is, who can he trust with them?
Author is very informed when describing gun handling and shooting. Not see very often in books. But way to many pages of nothing, that didn't add the narrative.
There was just so much to love about this book. It was a great story with fully fleshed out interesting characters. I couldn't stop turning pages trying to find out what was going to happen next. The characters thought and acted like real people, excellent heroes as well as villains. it was very easy to forget that it was just a book and not something really happening. The author certainly has a way of painting pictures in your mind that make you feel ike you're right there in the midst of the action. I also liked the way his characters didn't kowtow to any of the PC BS thats become so common not only in current television and movies but also contemporary literature. Other books in this genre I've enjoyed include Bestiarii by James Tarr, Without Remorse by Tom Clancy, Once a Spy by Keith Thomson, Last of the Breed by Louis Lamour, and Fade by Kyle Mills. I am anxiously awaiting this author's next book.
It was pretty confusing in the beginning. I'm not sure if it was the editing or what. But there just seemed a lot of run-on chapters that you realized later were some flashbacks. And one on the main characters just disappeared for about 25% of the book. Still, a lot of gun action, which I love. Plus, that ending with the chanting....epic! Note: It's tannerite, not taurenrite or whatever weird name it was called.
James Tarr is an all around funny guy (I love watching him on TV) and an amazing competitor in the shooting sports, as well as a great instructor. Now I find that he's an amazing author too! SCORE! This was a great book to read, can't wait for his next publication!
Really a pretty good book... a few typos and misspellings, but I’m just sensitive that way. Great story and a unique storyline. Well fleshed-out characters. Held my interest all the way. Great job by Mr. Tarr. The book may seem to be written by a politically conservative author, but that’s ok. Highly recommend.
Gripping story, refreshingly accurate. Of the hundreds of books I've enjoyed this one was a surprise, a plot and scenario not before imagined by me. It will be time well spent reading this book, set time aside. You will not want put it down. I am typing this at 5:09 AM.
Characters are odd but exceptionally well developed. Story includes scenes and themes that I am familiar with and enjoyed. I was unprepared for the ending but even so it was perfect. It's a joy finding books this good. I'm already looking for more by this author.
When there is action, the sequences are breath-taking; when there is a car chase, the pages whip by; when there is shooting, the writing is pulse-pounding. But...too much banter, too many backstories of secondary characters, and too many details seem to take away from this being a truly memorable read.
But this is my second novel by Tarr and I have discovered an author to keep an eye on.
Sorry. This was a DNF. Surprised because of the positive reviews and a genre I typically enjoy. However it gave off really strange "proud boy" vibes in the beginning and it kind of lingered through the the first few chapters. Not interested in that kind of drivel.
Maybe I missed a good book/series but I had to shut it down.
Being a govie this novel reads as more true than not and is an exact example of the issues the USA has as a nation. I know you think you made this up but I've seen it come true multiple times in 30 years of service.
I can't decide if it was the non-stop action or the wonderful humor that Mr. Tarr peppered throughout that captivated me so much. His characters were wonderfu l. I'd like to know each of them personally except for the government guys.
This concept fascinated me. Particularly, as I had a teacher in high school who had a familial trait of no fingerprints. In today's climate it seems that there are those in Plano will stop at nothing to keep control.
Wasn't to sure about this one, but glad I gave it a try!
Great read, action from the start and just kept going. Beautiful woman, fast cars and guns. You feel like you're right there in the story. Looking forward to the next story.
I love this book, lot's of twists turns. Didn't want to put it down. The firearms detail was great for those of us who are in to that stuff. Sadly I wouldn't put it past the Feds to do something like this. Some scary black OPS guys out there. I hope it ends up as a movie!
