About the author
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
346 books623 followersDavid Martyn Lloyd-Jones was a Welsh Protestant minister, preacher and medical doctor who was influential in the Reformed wing of the British evangelical movement in the 20th century. For almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London. Lloyd-Jones was strongly opposed to Liberal Christianity, which had become a part of many Christian denominations; he regarded it as aberrant. He disagreed with the broad church approach and encouraged evangelical Christians (particularly Anglicans) to leave their existing denominations. He believed that true Christian fellowship was possible only amongst those who shared common convictions regarding the nature of the faith.

Another home-shelf discovery, and a really nice read.
I've thought with other Lloyd-Jones books/sermons collections that someone could have edited them to not be so precisely word-for-word, as all the little in between phrases make for slow reading. These are definitely edited - so much that each 'sermon' is more of a 5-10 minute devotional read. But they still resonate with his distinct cut-to-the-chase style and spiritual application. It's great for a 2-week devotional, with 14 entries.
"We live in a world that is full of change, and we ourselves are changeable creatures. In this world there is instability, uncertainty. Is there anything more wonderful than to know that at any moment we can enter into the presence of one who is everlasting, 'the Father of lights with whom there is no variableness,'' whatever may be happening around us? He is always the same, in his might, in his majesty, in his glory, in his love, in his mercy. Let us realize that in Christ he offers us his fellowship, his companionship."

February 18, 2009A collection of 14 sermons by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. I like the detail he brings from his background as a medical doctor. His sermons always have a great blend of the reality of this material world in which we live and also the hope of Christ’s forgiveness for us personally.
