Cloud Rider takes us along on his fascinating journey hiking the 2,650 mile long Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Within these pages, you will find a daily record in words and pictures of his thru-hiking experience interspersed with interesting thoughts about the hike, hikers, food, water, animals, the nature of the trail, and many other topics. Although it includes some excellent references, statistics, and an awesome gear list, this is not a guidebook. It is also not a drama. It’s about the preparation, the hike, and wide variety of reflections. If you are interested in hiking the PCT, this book will prepare you for your thru-hike by familiarizing you with what it’s like, what you need to think about, what you should prepare for, and most importantly, what to expect. Having realistic expectations is one of his most important tips for how to finish the hike. If you do not plan to hike but want to find out what it’s like, this book will make you part of the adventure. Either way you’ll feel like you hiked the PCT.
The photos are good, but the "book" feels like it was just copied over from a blog and published, the author is a good writer, but this was a big letdown compared to other hiking books.
Absolutely fantastic! This is an excellent day by day telling of a Great journey. Complete gear list! ( not found too often) tips and tricks are excellent also. Another Must Read for aspiring thru-hikers. Thanks Cloud Rider!
I really enjoyed Cloud Rider's journal of his thru hike of the PCT. it gave quick great feel for life on the trail. I also loved his beautiful pictures. The book has some great reference material for those planning to thru or section hike. Thanks to Cloud Rider for sharing the experience!
Good day to day read I especially enjoyed the addition of daily maps and pictures. A tiny bit tedious at times but then I imagine so is the trail being a forty something who someday dreams of the trail I found this a great read.
Great pictures! The rest was very hum-drum. Too many pictures of Tim! Should have mentioned his aches and pains during the hike instead of waiting until the end.
Now I have a good balanced view of the PCT through the journal from Tim "Cloudrider" Potter. His experience on the PCT avoided excess drama. The book's editing seemed a little wonky at times, but I can forgive that. Overall a pleasure to read!
Loved the way he wrote this. Zero drama. Lots of details! Great resource! I could FEEL the fun he was having. Very positive attitude, even in the tough parts of the trail!
