Deputy Superintendent Ramya Naiker is summoned to the scene of a brutal murder. It seems a clear-cut case. But is it? Devi feels that she has one duty in life. To protect her son. But, will she be able to?
The two women lock horns and try to wear the other down as the day progresses. Who will get the upper hand? Will truth win?
Very well-written mystery which pulled me in right from the beginning. Everyone has a justification for the acts that they do but when those acts involve murder the self-justifications may seem reasonable to the criminal but come off as twisted to neutral observers and the police. When police officers are called to a house in a respectable residential neighborhood, they have no idea of the gruesome crime scene they are about to investigate.
Devi is fast paced with lots of crime and action. It focus on a mother's all-consuming love for her twisted son. The writing is smooth and there are no plot holes. The reader gets a good sense of Devi's emotions and the passion she had for protecting her son at all costs--until the final moment of truth. An enjoyable short story.
Devi is a dramatic, fast paced crime suspense short story. I loved that the action took place in set in the Chennai, India, and that the author Jayashree Krishnamurthy brought realism and understanding to the characters and culture. This story leaves me eager to read more of this author’s work.
Devi is a short, gripping read that I devoured in one sitting. It's a dark and often heart-wrenching story, exploring of the lengths a mother would go to to protect her son. Thought provoking and extremely well-written- you won't be able to put it down.
