I have been reading Christine Feehan since I was way too young to do so (about 12 years old). The early books in her Dark series are probably what led me to discover paranormal romance (arguably my favorite romance genre) in general.

Lately, however, I feel like her books - despite getting longer in length - are getting shorter and shorter on actual story, are poorly written, and have zero and/or unreliable character development.

One minute the female MC in this one is bemoaning that she can't have any girlfriends because they ask too many questions and she is oh so private (and has a secret past of some sort she doesn't want anyone asking questions about)...and yet the very next chapter beings with her talking about the nitty-gritty details of her sex life to a veritable stranger in a way I wouldn't even discuss an innocent kiss with my best friend of 20 years.

Speaking of sex life...I predominately read romance and obviously enjoy the racier scenes. But not at the expense of everything else. And I do mean EVERYTHING else.

Also, I don't remember the MCs of previous books in this series having full on conversations with their inner cats like the MC does in this one. I mean, they were having full, out loud conversations. I don't know. It felt cheesy to me and I just don't care to finish.

I also think I will be taking a break from Feehan's new stuff and stick to re-reading my favorites, of which I have many. Just happy I borrowed this from the library.

Set in the bayou, Leopard’s Blood bring us a fantastical paranormal romance that will touch your heart and have you wishing for more.

I don’t think Feehan has ever written two characters more perfect for each other. Yes, it does start with the insta-lust/love but as the plot develops you can truly see the reason why Sonia and Joshua are meant for each other. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of heat and steam we’ve come to expect from Feehan but in the end, the couple REALLY works.

Feehan was the author of my very first adult paranormal romance read. Now it is 3000+ books later and she is still a go-to author for me. Especially when I'm looking for a marvelous paranormal romance with a substantial plot and world-building that all providing an amazing visual and vibrant book vacation.

I received an ARC copy of Leopard's Blood from Berkley Publishing Group. This is my honest and voluntary review. Leopard's Blood is set for publication Oct 24, 2017.

Too many sex scenes and repeating of conversations. I have all the Leopard and Ghostwalker books so far. The quality of writing is deteriorating. I have already stopped buying the Dark series books. The price of these books is too high for inferior writing.

I've become a huge fan of Christine Feehan's work and I'm enjoying going through and falling in love with her back list! This is the story of Joshua and Sonia. She's only just met her leopard (her life was in danger and her leopard saved her) and she's basically hiding out in a Louisiana bayou. When she goes into heat, it's Joshua who answers her call. He's everything she could want and everything she must keep away from. He's too gorgeous, too dominant, too perfect. She's been played for a fool before and has no intention on repeating her mistakes. Too bad Joshua doesn't plan on ever letting her go.

"I can't imagine a man more perfect than you."
"Finish it, Sonia. For you. I'm perfect for you. You keep leaving that part out. I'm not a perfect man. I'm not 'right'. I'm right for you and I'm perfect for you. No one else."

Running from the Russian mob, Sonia ran straight into the arms of a hero. Joshua worked with Drake Donovan rescuing hostage victims and righting the wrongs of the world. He was also the new head of a criminal empire. Out of the pot and into the fire for poor Sonia. Joshua was the kind of warrior I easily give my heart to and he gave me tons of reasons to fall for him. He was sensual and possessive and protective and obsessive - Feehan's mating theory is sizzling hot! I initially categorized this story as 4 out of 5 on my flame scale, but I'm rethinking that... it's closer to 5. It was pretty smuttastic and delicious and immensely satisfied my pervy heart.

I didn't like Sonia, but I found myself thoroughly entertained by this story. I'm intrigued by the side characters and I'll soon discover if they have their own books. With the mini romance of Bastien and Molly, I'm hoping I get more. Joshua was everything that was amazing about this story and if you're looking for an erotic paranormal romance to get lost in, Leopard's Blood would be my recommendation.

OMG SO EXCITED FOR THIS ONE!! JOSHUA! So glad winter is here, needed the heat *grin*

Personal edit: **Ive been preparing for a qualifying exam recently, so extremely stressed- and usually enjoy light books to motivate myself.
Usually don't read books when they release; let them simmer awhile, but when I saw it was a book in the Leopard's People- which is one of my top all time favorite series, I had to have it asap! So will be a slightly wonky review**

"Leopard's Blood" is the story of Sonya and Joshua.

Sonya has been running away with the help of her leopard Getita, after escaping a husband Sasha and FIL Nikita who tried to murder. She finds sanctuary at a small keeping near the swamp, and makes it a home for her and her cat.

Soon Getita comes into heat which leads her to the male leopard Shadow, and his human Joshua, who instantly lays claim to Sonya like the leopard did.
Having escaped a Russian mob, Sonya is initially hesitant in trusting Joshua, but soon his caring nature and protectiveness makes her give in her heart to him, only to learn a heartbreaking secret!

We have to admit- CF writes one of the best and dirtiest book porn. The sex in this book is soooo off the charts hot, its kinky, its smutty and its good. The words "cats in heat" are apt, well because it is literally so in this one!

The story is well written and if you've read other books in this series, kind of predictable.
Alpha uber possessive male- check
Strong, kickass heroine escaping something evil- check
Strong bodyguards- check
Evil villains with no scruples- check
No holds barred lovemaking- check
Awesome descriptions of forests and swamps- check
Makes you want to be a cat- check

What I especially loved was the relationship between Getita and Sonya, because they were so protective and loving to each other, and it was the best one secondary to Getita and Shadow, as well as Sonya and Joshua.

Also love the super angsty scenes (which are quite common in this series,)-and the "you betrayed me??" trope always gets me!

The whole scenes and revelation with Sasha..tbh..got a bit creepy and weird ..but thank god I didnt give up!

Loads of drama with crazy FIL in the last 1/4th, but ends in a HEA.

Safe

Christine Feehan has delivered another excellent installment in the Leopard series with “Leopard’s Blood.” The book is action-packed, exciting, and sensual. I waited a long time for Joshua Tregre’s story and this book was worth the wait. Over the years, Joshua had despaired of finding his mate, so when he stumbles across her, Sonia Lopez, he has met a female shifter who is the one to make his life journey complete. The two protagonists are characters the way I like them; strong, intelligent, decent, and resilient. Joshua is completely focused on Sonia’s well-being, he and his leopard goes all out to court Sonia and her cat Gatita. I loved the sensual connection between the lead characters, Joshua was strong and dependable hero and I really liked the resourceful heroine. Sonia conveyed integrity as something powerful and regal.

Sonia was very resourceful and could take care of herself but in battle with the sadistically cruel branch of Russian shifters, she would trust Joshua’s superior fighting skills. I loved how respectful and caring Sonia was of her cat and kept control of the feisty Gatita rather than put her less experienced, smaller cat in danger.

The sex scenes were sensual but fit the story of shifters. I have no objection to sex scenes per se; but they should be secondary to the plot and character development. Fortunately, there was a lot more focus on the external conflict (the fight with the horrid Russian clan) rather than manufactured conflict between the main characters.

Leopard’s Blood was engaging, exciting, and the story moved at a good pace. The dialogue and character development in this book are excellent. I just wished that a significant person from Sonia’s past hadn’t had so much page time, this was Joshua’s story and I wanted the other person to disappear rather hanging around like an unwanted appendage for much of the story. Nevertheless, this story was a perfect mix of action, humor, and romance. Leopard’s Blood is a fantastic addition to the Leopard series.

In Leopard's Blood I have to say I had high expectations for this book because its JOSHUA'S book....I mean really, I wanted it to be one of the best books this author has ever written, so of course it wasn't. But I will say it was still a solid read just not quite what I really wanted for his book but still was pretty decent. The story starts off with INSTA LUST. Yep. So if you are new to the series, then let me get some background information out for you. With Leopard shifters, they pretty much mate for life and if its the right one for lifetimes even. So we have our heroine who grew up in a tough situation. Her father killed when she was young, her mother made to serve the crime boss and forced to have sex with him. Then she married the boss' son and they practically grew up together and ended up in married. But when she heard her husband and father in law talking about needing to have her killed, and learning that she has a leopard inside her when a car bomb almost kills her if it wasn't for her "other" form. Then while in Florida, settling in her new home and the swamps, while in her leopard form, going into heat finds herself being mated with another leopard, one she doesn't know....and it turns out is Joshua Tegre. Joshua isn't afriad of any enemies that Sonia has. Now at

Now at first their story is insta lust, because of the set up of the story with their leopards. Which isn't my favorite aspect to be honest. I like some great build up. However I really had a exciting time with the way that the plot builds up especially with Sonia's husband and father in law. Now it does add a certain element with Sonia being married (even though she thinks he is trying to kill her) and is in hiding from him. Some might say its a bit of a love triangle situation but not really. More like some conflict of interest. But really, Feehan delivers some great surprises for us in the end here. What I really liked though is that her husband is not what we expect and even though I had a feeling he was not what he seemed, Feehan definitely made that fun turn of events thrilling in every way. Another issue I probably had with the story was our hero. There just wasn't enough character development for him, which I have been wanting ALL series long. Because he has practically been involved since then and I wanted more focus on his character. Even though I really enjoyed the way that this story developed, I did feel that we didn't get enough of our Joshua. Especially with all the family history we see him suffer throughout the series.

The romance was very interesting, and not really what I expected from this author. It may have started out hot and heavy, but man once these two really get to actually know each other, the romance because more than swoony worthy. These are are just perfect for each other. At first its their leopards that know that they are for each other. But as they start building a relationship, learning each other, we see their emotional connection match their physical bond. I love the way that Joshua supports Sonia in her dreams, encouraging her in her art.
We are not fuck buddies. You are permanent. Mine. My woman. My mate. I'm not your damn boyfriend, I'm no boy and I'm not yet your friend. We're working on that. I'm your man. Your mate. I belong to you in the same way you belong to me. I have your body and you have mine. I want your heart and your mind. I want to be your best friend. I want to be all that for you.
Even though Leopard's Blood wasn't quite what I was expecting or wanting, the writing was like a magnet, and pulled me instantly into the story and I just didn't want to put it down. The stunning details, the sizzling sensuality and the power packed plot give the reader an EXHILARATING RIDE!!

Family, betrayal and love….

Having a new Leopard book by this author land on my kindle had me doing a happy dance and willing the weekend to come! I had drifted away from this author a few years ago but came back to find, once again, amazing reads. Whether additions to long-standing series - Leopard People, Dark, Sisters, Ghostwalkers – or new romances in the Shadow books, each one was a love story to savour and get lost in…. Joshua and Sonia’s was the latest and oh so good!

“I’m real, Sonia. One hundred percent real. You’re safe with me.”

Joshua could relate well to the horror that was Sonia’s childhood. He was raised away from the lair swamplands – and the past – that she called her own but he was deadly nevertheless…

“I swear to you, I would never harm you or allow anyone else to. You’re mine.”

Sigh… sounds pretty he-man and alpha, doesn’t it? Well, he certainly was! Protective, caring and pushy he knew when to move gently and when to pounce. Trust was something Sonia knew little about and a life of isolation meant the few friends she cherished were still kept at a safe distance. Joshua was going to push past any barriers she had and use every skill at his disposal to make her see him and what they could be.

I sit down to start reading and when I look up again it’s been hours, lost in a world of shifters and love that was equally raw, sexy hot and emotional. A touch of mafia and a whole lot of heat makes this another edgy, “get lost in another world” romance. Loved it and can’t wait for more. LOTS more! ~Diane, 4.5 stars

This is a super-sexy, exciting story. At first, I was afraid that Joshua would turn out to be a one-dimensional dominating male – he wasn’t. He was dominant, but full of heart and emotion as well. I grew to like him quickly. Sonia was also someone I could relate to, and how she viewed things going on around her. It was a well written and fast paced romance that either had me swooning or cringing as I turned the pages.

I finished the book late Tuesday night 10/24/17 release day but I needed time to think about what I felt about Joshua and Sonia's story. Well guess what I am still not sure. The reason I did decide on 3 stars is the story is repetitive and I don't need that many sex scenes to make a story hot, sensual and sexy. I don't like it when authors repeat the same lines and scenes in a story over and over. I get it the first time. I think this occurs to lengthen the word count. Leopard's Blood would have made a much better Novella/Short Story. But the storylines we do get are very good fast paced, lots of action and some pretty hot sex scenes. Great believable chemistry between Joshua and Sonia. Too Many Sex Scenes but they were well done. So you see I was very tossed up in the air about this story and will re read it. But for now 3 Stars.

I really tried to like this book! but I am really getting annoyed with the gory, and unappealing sex scenes, I get it they are CATS! but for a while now her series like the sisters of the heart, leopard, Ghostwalker, and now the dark series, are delving into the depths of the whips and chains mob! They did not start this way, for example Water Bound, the male character Lev, was more likeable than his brother in last in the series, where I had no interest in the two of them at all, for a book to take you into a story, that kind of ruins it for me.
Christine really sums it up in the book Burning Wild when Jake ejaculates over Emma and she is furious that he has treated her like a ‘porn star’ now nearly every one of the female leads need to ‘be taken over the knee’ and spanked like they are naughty little girls, this is very unappealing to me, I aint no prude, but even I find this a bit creepy, and for a book to try and make me feel any warmth for the male character, and not think the women are there to be led by a ring through the nose.
I repeat again, this unnecessary s&m drivel, may pander to the E.L. James fans, but for the people who read series like this from the beginning, and now don’t want to waste money on any future books, I said I was stopping reading the dark series, and looks like now will be doing the same with the leopard, and ghostwalker series.

First off I just loved this story so if you don’t want to read them all at least read this story. Sonia is on the run after her leopard saved her even though she didn’t know about her leopard. Sonia moved to a quiet town and has a pretty good job restoring houses so she bought a run down house with plenty of land for her leopard to run. When she is in heat she stumbles across another leopard who she mates with and they spend several days together but she can’t get close because her former husband and father in law want her dead.
Joshua couldn’t believe he finally found his mate but the human Sonia is too afraid that the Russian mob will come after her but what she doesn’t know is he is the mob.
This story had everything your looking for in a story with all the benefits, Sonia was made of steel and she would fight with everything she had win or lose.

I love reading Shifter books, and the Leopard People series by Christine Feehan is without a doubt my favourite shifter series. I've enjoyed every book in the series, and I've been wanting to read Joshua Tregre's story for SO LONG!!

Leopard's Blood has Joshua and his leopard Shadow finding everything they have ever wanted in the girl living next door, something he thought would never happen for him. However, Sonia isn't sure she agrees with what Joshua wants, she has been greatly betrayed in the past and has difficulty trusting. She relies greatly on her leopard Gatita to help steer her.

Their relationship was definitely NOT a slow burner physically - they are well suited sexually, it's more emotionally and being able to trust ( for Sonia ) that takes a lot of time. Another great addition to the series, with enough action to make the reader wonder what's going to happen next.

Carpenter heroine, Russian mob, liked her strength and her unusual occupation, haven't seen that before, hero incredibly rough, a lot of sex scenes, feels like more than usual, got a little much in places, but were still hot
A lot of characters from previous books mentioned, gets a little confusing at times

060319: later addition. okay this is not the romance for me but is definitely so for many gr readers. i think of this novel as parallel those many adventure/war novels marketed as sf, long, too long, too many words for too little story, here rather than numbing universe, spaceflight, weaponry, numbers, exciting tech, there is deliberately provoking emotional universe, sex, love, sex, lust, sex, hate, sex, fear, sex, danger, sex, love, sex, lust... and so on. no more ridiculous than those boy books. which i do not read much. and what is important is not abstract, fantastic, intellectual, but the visceral, human, emotional. i do not know if it is necessary but i did read every page. i have read enough other similar work to deconstruct-on-the-go as i read it, and perhaps i read it in an instrumental way, too: if this is what (some...) women want and i want (some or maybe other?) women i think i should read this...

050319: first review. vacation reading yes. not really something to read on the beach. i ask girl at town library something romance/genre that interests. she shows me romance/crime, romance/historical... romance/paranormal. long time since i last read girlfriends' popular romances. this does not annoy as much as say jayne book, madman on heath book, because it is so clearly instrumental fantasy material for female lust/love/lust and i hope does not ask to taken too seriously. fast, easy, long, propulsive. which is what one gets with many many well-written sex scenes...

I didn't like nor appreciate the fast and furious approach Christine used here. I understand the leopards "Heat" and all that entails, but for Joshua to be all gunho and MINEing all over the show after just meeting? And the wam bang thank you mam nature of the initial meet and greet detracted. The sex scenes while awesome, just distracted from the story. There barely was a story. I get it, its romance, but Meh, still enjoy a good tale. I didn't believe in their love story. It felt one sided and very much dangerous on Joshua's side. He showed some very troubling behaviour I wouldn't take my eyes off. Over all enjoyed it.

I was all set to love this book as it was Joshua's story. I had high expectations for this book but it wasn't. I will say it was still a good read just not what I really was hoping for. Once you've read one of her sex scenes, you've pretty much read them all and this book seemed to have more sex than story which I found disappointing. Overall, I enjoyed it, just not as much as I was hoping for.

A porno has more plot then this book!
I've been a fan of Christine Feehan for over 11 years but this is the worst book I think I've read! Here's the summary of this book...
sex, sex, sex, talk of sex and rape, talking about body parts, sex,a bad guy shows up,she gets hurt and he dies, talk or thoughts of sex and body parts, sex, talk of rape, talk of sex and body parts, sex, talk or thoughts of sex, another bad guy shows up, talk of rape,he dies, talk of sex, talk of body parts. (roughly in that order)
There I saved you 382 pages!

I don't believe there was collectively 50 pages where sex, body parts, talk or thoughts of sex, body parts or rape wasn't involved. Probably about 20 pages, and that's being generous. There was maybe 5 scenes in the entire book,MAYBE, that didn't somehow turn into something sexual.

Examples:(not in order)
Dinner time- he gives her a vibrating egg to put inside her and of course it leads to sex.
She gets shot and immediately starts talking to her friend about how obsessed she is with his mouth and cock and he tells her he can't wait to see her use her vibrator.
She's supposed to be working but instead they have sex.
She hangs out with a new friend for the first time and they talk about sex and sex toys.
She has to talk to cops but instead of us getting a scene with them talking to her we read how he was hard looking at her talking to the cops and that several cops had stared at her breasts
.
She cooks a meal and he's turned on just by watching her. Gives her a ring to wear on a chain around her neck and of course she has to take off her shirt to wear it while they eat dinner.

You get the idea. Almost every conversation or scene had some form of that in it even when it was supposed to be a serious one.
Like the death/rapes of both their mothers and three children! I don't know about you but having those conversations and them turning sexual was not okay or even remotely right in my opinion! Just yuck!!

Plus most conversations felt half way done because the scene or conversation would just stop and it'd turn sexual. What conversations we did get that stayed on topic were repeated dialog. She had a conversation with a guy and we read everything she says then Joshua shows up and we have to reread everything she said in the previous conversation to see how he felt hearing her say what she said.
Along with several other repeated lines over and over throughout the book.
I was so bored with this book yet I finished it hoping it'd get better because I've waited years for Joshua's story but everytime I started to get into it it'd turn sexual. I feel like I got maybe 40 pages of plot, and most was repeated plot, and the rest was porn. I didn't get a story, I got a porno. 20 chapters are in this book and his story probably took up 5 and that includes some of their sex.
This is one of my favorite series by her and I know it's sexual especially when their leopards are in heat but this book was ridiculous. I'll give the next book or two a chance but if they're anything like this one I'm done with the series.

Review written by Marie for Ever After Book Reviews!

I began this series a while ago, and while it’s always been entertaining, it hasn’t ever really captured me. That is until now.

Leopard’s Blood is (finally!) Joshua’s story of finding his true love, Sonia. At first, I will admit, I eye-rolled at the “instant love” that brought these two together. I mean… really? But…………… I get it. And the more I read, the more I got it. Their chemistry was wonderful, and Ms. Feehan does a tremendous job of developing their relationship from instant attraction to a touching and loving pairing. The plot of the story is very well-written and is full of action, excitement and plenty of the sexy and steamy love scenes we’ve all (yes, you know I’m talking about you) grown to know and love from Ms. Feehan.

This book, in so many ways, is exactly like it’s predecessors. But what sets it apart from them, is the way the romance evolves. The way it grows and becomes something beautifully poetic.

Whether you’re an avid reader of this series, or not, this is one book that you’ll truly enjoy.

This is the first real disappointment I have found in Ms. Feehan‘s books. Up until now, even though most have very steamy sex scenes, there are also richly told stories with relationships that we are able to watch grow and develop. Not so here.

This story is really nothing but sex. Starting within the first couple of pages and encompassing over 70% of the overall book. There really isn’t much of a story at all beyond that. We are told Joshua and Sonia spend time together talking and getting to know each other but we never actually see it happen. We are told each of them is in love but have absolutely know idea why. The reader never sees a reason - unless one buys into sex equals love.

There was so little time spent on the story that even the situations didn’t ring true. Sonia’s choices came across as absolutely TSTL in multiple instances and even the big finale fight was lack-luster only because I had never connected enough to the characters (that happens when there is absolutely no depth or development) that I bought into any real feeling being expressed.

Gosh, I hope this is a one time lapse! I have loved the books I’ve read in this series up to this point.

Extremely disappointing. There was barely any character development, a thin plot and a female protagonist that I wanted to kill off myself. She's strong, she's weak, she doesn't know who to trust, she trusts some chick after the first coffee date (who also happens to be in a runaway situation - REALLY??!!). This was not her best work. This book felt like, "I have a deadline, so I'll just throw something together and add a lot of sex and no one will notice." Seriously, I skimmed most of this book because it's basically just a lot of sex with some dialogue thrown in, and the dialogue isn't that great either. If you must read it, get it out of the library for free. I seriously wouldn't spend money on it.

I just can keep giving Christine 4 or 5 stars. Sometimes you have to step back and really assess a novel and this one was not that good. Sonia was so annoying and frankly if I have to hear another beat rape enjoyment scene that lasts more then 5 pages I will scream. That’s it -3 stars
