I loved the detailing in this part. The sea, its colours, moods; the markets, tourists and crowds of Salvador, in Brazil; are beautifully captured. The myth of Iemanja, an orixa, the spirit of the waters, protector of the fisherman adds another level of mystery and beauty to the story. The culture, beliefs and traditions of the Candomble people and the celebration of Iemanja day on Rio Vermelho beach elevate the artistry.

But what really moved me is the ending, especially when I read it alongside the ending of issue 1. There's Bras in his 32s blaming life when he could have died at 21 in a foreign land feeling like 'an other' among fellow human beings. It's even crazier when I read it alongside my own life. Isn't every new day in your life a gift when you could have died in any one of the numerous days you lived in the past?

Also enjoyed questions regarding 'what defines us as a human being?' and 'what makes us a foreigner or an other?' etc.

in this second issue, we see bras at 21, ten years before the events of the first issue, when he still had that passion for life, before he started writing obituaries. I feel like we're seeing bras dying at different ages and in different timelines? like parallel universes? I'm intrigued.

A sun-soaked meditation on youth and possibility

At 21, Bras embarks on a scenic road trip through rural Brazil with his best friend Jorge, heading toward the beaches of Salvador. This issue beautifully captures that liminal space between college and "real life"—when the future feels wide open yet uncertain.

What struck me most was the cultural authenticity. Moon and Bá's depiction of Brazil feels lived-in rather than touristic. Bras experiences the discomfort of being "the other"—a gringo among locals—which adds layers to questions of identity and belonging. The mysterious Olinda becomes both a romantic encounter and a spiritual guide, connecting to his dreams in ways that blur reality and fantasy.

The artwork is simply stunning:Watercolor-style illustrations capture Brazil's landscapes with vibrant sunsets and coastal beauty. Dave Stewart's restrained color palette perfectly complements the story's contemplative tone. Each panel feels like a postcard from a journey you wish you could take.

The ending, involving the Festival of Iemanjá, is hauntingly beautiful. The Candomblé religious elements add mystical depth while honoring Brazilian culture. Death here feels different from issue #1—more cyclical, connected to nature's rhythms of life and rebirth. Interactions with locals, the intimacy of shared moments with Jorge, and quiet encounters in nature all underscore a yearning for purpose and understanding. These moments are beautifully universal: feeling lost, longing for meaning, and the bittersweet realization that every day holds both possibility and limits. Bras’ introspection and vulnerability make his story a relatable meditation on mortality, growth, and the need to find significance amidst uncertainty.

Highly recommended.

“Daytripper” by Fábio Moon, Gabriel Bá

Sobering! Original and unexpected. A story about stories of alternative endings to a man’s life. One of the best artists I have seen. I could not put this book down!
