Athena Harrow is on the run. Destined for a life she managed to evade, she flees with Erebus before his brother’s threat can prove true. But within their newfound refuge, they discover secrets long held close in the historical city of York—a creature thought to have been wiped out when the demons ascended. A creature whose existence renews Athena’s determination to restore the light.
However, attacks by Erebus’s brother and his promised army shatters those plans. Faced with the responsibility for the loss of numerous innocent lives, Athena makes a choice. To protect those around her, she’ll surrender to the Master Demon’s dark world.
Life with the Master is intolerable, though, and conflicted Athena is not what he expected. With time against her, and the Master losing patience, will Athena find the Master’s secret to restoring the light? Will she manage to escape the Master and the fate she was chosen for on her twenty-first birthday? And will she be able to return to York to reunite with the man she loves?
Tumultuous and emotional, ADVERSITY is the gripping conclusion to this dark romantic fantasy.
Melody grew up in North Yorkshire, England. She's a North Yorkshire lass through and through, although she does have a tendency to holiday in Spain. She has dreams of moving to the warmer climate to sip on Sangria as the sun sets over the roof tops of surrounding buildings. But, for the moment, she still lives in North Yorkshire with her husband and two sons.
I loved the first book (Iniquity) where I was introduced to a world where Demons take control. With all the Evil and Horrible things that occurred, a love story between a Human and a Demon was hard to believe. However, Melody has written a truly great love story where that is exactly what happens. You find yourself rooting for the unlikely couple of Athena and the demon Erebus.
Now this sequel, Adversity, keeps that love story going but with lots of action and romance. Melody actually gets you to dislike an Angel !! But don't fret because you eventually understand why the Angel Michael is the way he is. I was on the edge of my seat, so to speak, to find out how Athena manages to keep safe from the Master Demon and get back to her true love Erebus. Athena also has the added challenge of eluding a very nasty and evil vampire who desperately wants to hurt and murder her. All the while trying to solve the mystery of her most wanted dream of returning the light to the world. Lots of twists and turns and new mysteries are revealed. I will warn you..... you will need tissues. You won't regret taking this adventure into this fantasy world. I didn't.
I am so glad book 2 was released soon. I was anticipating the conclusion of Erebus and Athena's love story. Their story was something unique and unusual. I love how Melody Winter gave a different perspective on Demons. It will surely make you think if they are capable of redemption after all. Her story showed that there is an intrinsic redeeming quality of goodness in a demon or evil character. She gave Erebus, Narabus and the rest of the demon characters the chance to do good in the end. Athena’s character has totally developed and evolved from a naive girl to a brave and fearless woman. She showed compassion, courage and determination to bring back the light. Her good heart gave her the boldness to go beyond her boundaries and bring back the light. For a moment I thought I was able to predict what would happen on the next pages but Melody accomplished to turn the sequence of events. I am looking forward to another book were the story revolves on the adventures of Jared!
I started this on holiday a while back, then we moved house and it got temporarily forgotten, so it took a while for me to complete. But between reading during lunch breaks and traveling it's now complete. What a ride. Absolutely love Melody's work. Don't want to give anything away, but wow, talk about edge of the seat as it drew near to the end. Absolutely love the ending. Even though I was like no, what are you doing to me on the ride to get there. Loved following Athena's journey to bring back the light. Lots of twists and turns.
I was very kindly offered an ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I have given Melody's latest offering FIVE STARS!!
I am a masssive fan of Melody Winter, everything she writes is just magic. This series is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas. Adversity is everything you need in a fantasy sequel. It was fast paced and action packed and will have you on the edge of your seat.
After reading Iniquity I couldn’t wait to get into Adversity. I had a lot of unanswered questions. I needed to know how they were going to stop the master demon and return the light. Athena and Erebus’ has this amazing connection, one which hasn’t started off to a great start but had blossomed. I found the start of this book slow going. There wasn’t much going on, but then Athena made a decision that changed the story and turned the story around. The story was intriguing with twists and turns we didn’t see coming. Overall I really enjoyed this book and series!
