Morta Fox #2

Reclaimed

Rate this book
Being a vampire for hundreds of years, Hammer knew all about promises when he made one to Morta Fox. The problem was, he never counted on her being the most stubborn, big-mouthed, unbelievably amazing vampire he’d ever met. He wasn’t supposed to fall in love with her, but he did.

Stuck in the Red Dimension for seven years, it’s hard to hold onto hope, until Hammer runs into his Doyen. Ray Bardos has been trapped in there for more than a century, and now he claims to know a way out.

Hammer would do anything at all if it means seeing Morta again, so he doesn’t ask questions. To get out, he must give away a part of himself. He’s willing and ready, but he has no idea what exactly this means until it’s too late.

And when Hammer finally makes it out of the Red Dimension, Morta Fox isn’t the only vampire he needs to find.

At the end of book one, Heartbeat, Hammer promised he'd come back to Morta. Every single day he was in the Red Dimension he thought of her, of getting back to her, and when he had the opportunity to do so he grasped at it with both frozen and burning hands. Only thing he didn't realize is what he'd be giving up to return.

Finding himself waking up in a strange place and in a strange time he didn't understand Hammer was lost. He got lucky finding someone who actually cared about his well-being, but who also had his own agendas. There's also people who knew him before he died, who were once his friends, decide they know what's best for him instead of listening to what he wants. Sometimes you don't see betrayal even when you're staring it in the face.

I liked how the tracker led the story to a place I didn't expect. It was a nice turn of events and I cannot wait to see how it all plays out in the next book.

What I didn't like was that Morta was barely in this book. Reclaimed is all about Hammer coming back and discovering himself again. It was only a let down to me because I wanted so badly to see them reunited and it almost seemed as if it was written as an afterthought.

Oh and a small warning to those wrapped up in the Morta Fox world...this also has a cliffhanger ending. It's not near as drastic as in Heartbeat, but it's still pretty harsh.

Having enjoyed book one in Morta Fox series, I was looking forward to reading book two. Reclaimed is written from the point of view of Hammer, Morta's lover, which came as a bit of a surprise. It was a nice surprise, however. Hammer has a very unique voice, he's a strong character and it was great to get to know him better. In book two, Hammer manages to escape the Red Dimension, where he had been cast for breaking his promise to Morta. He loses his memory in the process but when he meets Morta again, he knows he has feelings for her, even though he can't remember who she is.

I loved the character development of the series. Morta started out in book one as a newbie vampire unsure of herself, and transformed into a powerful and self-assured character. The love story between Hammer and Morta is so sweet, I was hoping for their reunion in book two.
But just like the first book, Reclaimed ends on a cliff hanger. I am definitely looking forward to book three to find out what happens next.

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance review copy of Reclaimed. The dystopian love story of Hammer and Morta Fox continues in Reclaimed, but this time it’s from Hammer’s point of view. I wasn’t expecting that, and I really liked it. I don’t want to tell too many details in case someone reading this hasn’t yet read Heartbeat, the first in the Morta Fox series, but suffice it to say that Reclaimed starts with Hammer imprisoned in a very bad place. The description of this place is chilling and truly frightening. He manages to escape, but he doesn’t remember anything about his life as a vampire or about his love for Morta, but when he finally comes face to face with her, he feels an immediate connection. As his memories trickle back, he finds himself facing a threat that will spell the end of all humans.

Reclaimed is a combination of nonstop adventure, chilling horror, and sexy romance, and a great follow-up to the thrilling Heartbeat.

I started reading this one as soon as I finished “Heartbeat” and it did not disappoint. It was interesting to see how Hammer saw and dealt with the Red Dimension (the vampire version of hell) and how he got out. It was heartbreaking to see him lose his memories, but at the same time, interesting to see him coping with people who thought he was someone he didn’t even realize he was. What I think I enjoyed the most was his attraction and fascination to Morta, despite not remembering who she was. At the same time, I loved that Morta didn’t push him, telling him over and over again he was someone he didn’t know existed. She rolled with him being someone else and I loved it.

A sequel that just works

This author certainly knows how to tell a tale and capture your attention. It was different and really out main character, Morta, wasn’t in it but yet she was everything to Hammer, so she was still present. This is the whole story of Hammer pre Morta and it was fantastic.

Great book!

Another exciting book in this series. The plot gets better with every book and this one is full of surprises. I really enjoyed reading it from Hammer's perspective. Yet again I read it late into the night and couldn't put it down until I finished it. I can't wait to read the next book.

A different kind of love story

This love story starts a little slow. The more time you spend with the characters the more you grow to love them. The series is very addictive and I can't wait for the next book.

*4.5/5 stars*

Continuing this story with a sequel that leaves you wanting more...

The Writing:
At the beginning this was slow but then it was as easy and fast to read as the first one. I really liked that the POV changed from the first book. I enjoy the writing.

The Story:
I think in my review of the first book I said I wanted more of Hammer, and this is a 'you ask for it, you get it'. This whole book is from Hammer's POV *fangirls* Actually, Morta barely appears though she is on his mind all times.
The beginning of the book was a bit slow for me but quite interesting. The Red Dimension was an awful place for sure but it was interesting to read not only about it but the way to get out of there too. Then the story was great. I really liked it. This was really about getting to know yourself, going back to the ones you love and fighting for what you believe.
For me this book had many surprises that I don't think I would have ever guessed.
I liked that we learnt a lot more of Hammer's past and gave just a glimpse of why he is what he is now.
The story over all had action, fights not only physicals but of personalities and minds; vampires, like a lot (yep, it's a vampire book but I'm saying it anyway); the romance was there but not as strong as in the first one, I think in the next one I'll get all the romance I need from this couple.

The Characters:
I already talked about Hammer, he re-discovered himself and that was great to read. I was disappointed of Bugz and her actions. Morta wasn't enough for me to say anything other that Hammer's disappearance really hurt her.

Overall, this was a good sequel, interesting and enjoyable that leaves you really wanting to know more. Definitely looking forward to book 3!

This book grabbed me and didn't let me go until the very last page. I'm so glad it was written in Hammer's pov. It was absolutely perfect. Even better than the first.

It has been a while since I read the first book of the Morta Fox stories, but still as I began reading this follow on story, I was captured by it. The Hammer / Morta story takes some serious turns in this book and it certainly kept me guessing about what was going to happen as the story evolved.

Once again the characters and the use of language are very raw and very real, and this makes this author's writing so easy to read and believe.

Overall this is another great story delivered by this author, and I look forward to reading Book #3 in the series!

Captivating , Incredible Storytelling

Words can't describe what amazing writing and storytelling this is. This is one of the most original vampire stories I've read.

This book sucked me in, even quicker then the first one did. From the truly hellish description of the red dimension to the characters I am blown away.

A book has to have twists and turns to keep me interested. IT DOES! I really enjoyed reading both one and two! Can't wait to read three!
