All Poppy Marsh wants is to find a safe place to heal from the pain of a broken relationship and to finish the degree she’s worked so hard to earn.
After Colton Gunnerson’s search for fame crashes to the ground, saving his family’s ranch might be the only future he has left.
Colton has an old Montana homestead for rent, and Poppy needs a place to stay. Will they become entangled in a web of money, family, and dark secrets from the past? Or will a simple, strong faith change the course of their lives, bringing them the love neither thought they would find?
The Moose Hollow series is a keen look at broken people in a broken world, filled with wit, romance, and redemption. For more Christian romance, please check out Cynthia Bruner’s Montana Weekend Novellas.
Cynthia grew up in Colorado, lived in Arizona, and was born somewhere east of there. Then she married a Montanan and that was the end of that. She pursued several degrees and a couple careers, but found God's best job for her when she became a wife and mom. Now her kids are grown-up enough to write their own stories, and so is she. She writes inspirational romance and takes photos of her favorite places in Montana and Yellowstone Park.
Oh, this story was so good! It was filled with main and side characters who were both interesting and flawed. Poppy was at a crossroads in her life and the “escape” she sought for awhile in Montana ended up opening her eyes to new possililities and introducing her to what a relationship with God could look like.
Colton was such a complex character! Strange behavior on occasion, hints of trouble in his past, the sense that he felt like a failure even though he’d been wildly successful in one area of his life made this man who was struggling to manage his ranch quite the mystery. I really liked the interaction between Colton and Poppy and the way their relationship developed.
But, there was so much more to this book than just Colton and Poppy’s story! Mara and Zane had such an important storyline in the book and parts of it were very serious, even though Mara brought a good bit of quirky humor to the novel. And the other family members had their own troubles that needed working through.
I really enjoyed Warm Montana Home and look forward to reading future books in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
From the first chapter of this book, I knew I would love the main character, Poppy Marsh. She just wants a safe home, someplace to recover from the pain her last relationship caused her, but she meets Colton Gunnerson--and his family--and they throw her world into turmoil. She’s attracted to Colton, but he’s keeping secrets about his past from her. I came to love Colton too, for reasons you’ll discover if you read this book, and the last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen!
I can’t recommend Warm Montana Home enough. It’s touching, sweet, and sometimes very tense, and its message of faith is gently but firmly woven into the plot. It’s also beautifully written, with characters who are so real you’ll feel as if you know them. I really hope Bruner writes more about Poppy and Colton--and some of the other characters in this book--because I’m eager to know what happens in their lives!
This less than professional novel earned three stars for its slapped together lack of quality in story line, writing style, and cobbled together character. It reads like a book written by a committee that couldn't agree on the beginning, focus, and ending...although the latter was better than the rest of the book. It dragged in many places. This reader put it down to do something else at least three times. It's excellent in spots, but equally awful in others. Overall, this reader was so disappointed. This will be the first and last book by Cynthia Brunner that this reviewer will read. Sorry. It's just not worth the time spent.
Glad to see the 1 after the tittle. Looking forward to more Moose Hallow!
Having Poppy name the problem cow Sparkles made me laugh especially since it disconcerted the cowboys. I enjoyed getting to know the main characters and watching them grow and they quirkiness of Colton’s grandmother and her faith. I hurt for the aloneness of many of the characters including Poppy and her young friend Mara. It was fun learning about calving along side Poppy. Watching God taking brokenness and making blessings from tangible things to lives is awe inspiring.
Poppy spotted the bar, some food to settle her stomach, a place to rent to finish her research, simple things for now. A broken relationship, now in Montana and open to wonders and possibilities, as she looks around. Meeting Colton, yes, she admits being attracted to him, but he has secrets. They both are healing, finding faith, and a new relationship, that will grow. Makes this a nice heart warming story that one loves to read.
This, for me, is the kind of book you get lost in. Every page pulls you deeper as it reveals a little more depth to each character and opens the story up a little more. It's why I read, searching for that style that totally captures me and draws me in as a silent observer of the romance, chaos, pain, healing and joy of life. Moose Hollow lessons will stay with me.
You know how some books read 'slow'--you read & read & still it takes forever to finish? Not so with this book! I cringed when I opened it & it said 550 pages, but it read fast and was such a good story I didn't want it to end. I loved the characters, flaws and all & especially loved the redemption theme. Cynthia Bruner is a new-to-me writer and I will be looking for more by her. Especially this series. Just wow!
Oh Montana! What a backdrop for this story told by this gifted author! A Ranch in need of care. A woman that's been hurt by a selfish man. A chance stop in a Montana town. A handsome cowboy with past success in rodeoing and a few hard knocks from bronc riding. What can happen under the clear Montana sky. Read and find out. It's a goo one
So good I needed to buy the paperback to have forever.
I really connected with Poppy and how she thought which doesn’t happen with most female characters. This love/friendship story was just a wonderful read and very well written. I’ll be reading this author again:)
Loved this novel. Is about broken people and how love heals the broken. Of course, God"s love is the only one that counts. This is not a preachy book. It is written with emotion and cheering for the characters.
This book has twists and turns that teach the characters the importance of God on their lives. The characters are developed and I hope the next book in the series will include these characters.
I've enjoyed pretty much every this author has written but up until now my favourite has been the first one I read, Meg's Best Man. Warm Montana Home is longer than the others and is in my opinion as good as Meg's Best Man. Both Poppy and Colton are somewhat broken people doing the best they can. I enjoyed seeing how they began to recognise that brokeness growing in both faith and character and of course their budding relationship with each other.
