Cannot be read as a standalone

I wish someone told me not to read the blurb for the next book in the series.

SO I'M TELLING YOU NOW, don't read the blurb for Dominion because it contains a giant spoiler for Duality. Resist.

Duality is the third book in the series. The POV switches between all the characters, but the story is mostly told in Nate's and Ransley's view.

Nate really shines here. He's willing to do anything to get Reggie back from the Public.

There's a lot of mind blowing twists and turns. And the shocking ending makes me wonder how the series will end.

I was sent a copy of this book by the Author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated below are mine and 100% true.

Duality, which is the third installment to The Enertia Trials, is just as action packed and captivating as its predecessors, but much more devastating.

Throughout the book, I was like:

index3

By the end, I was like:

giphy

Everything you look for in a dystopian book, Duality has it. Staring from sexy romance & torturous love to brutal humans & devastating world. EVERYTHING.

Characters are #1 Priority for me. If a book doesn't have a good set of characters, I am chucking it away. I have always liked the characters of this series, but with Duality, I have realized how much I cared about the characters. As you turn the pages of this book, your heart will throb and you will be at the edge of your seat, hoping  your favorite character doesn't die.

My favorite character is Nate. At first it was mere attraction and then my love for him just doubled with each book. I have not read about a character who is as dedicated and loving as Nate is. If he loves you, he is going to go to any extend in order to protect you. Hats off to Ms. Kowallis for crafting such a complex character like Nate so well. If you haven't loved Nate in the first two books, Duality will change your mind.

Roydon is the most likable character in the series. I love that he is so vain and can make jokes so easily. He will not miss an opportunity to flirt, I swear. xD At the same time, he is incredibly strong. We don't really see him much in Encender but his character developed really well in Duality.

Ransley is so kickass and confident about her abilities. I do wish she didn't lose control and her temper so easily but it makes her real so that's good. I love that she is a soft person behind the tough exterior. I find her the strongest Enertia Subject beside Roman.

There was absolutely no way I was able to predict Roman's power. This character will surprise you in a good or bad way..you'll see.

Since I cannot express my feelings towards Reggie without spoiling, I'll mark this part as spoiler.

When it comes to plotline, Kowallis has connected the dots so perfectly and everything falls into its places nicely. The plot twists are unpredictable and will make you gasp.
The writing is very captivating and totally grabs the reader's attention.

Duality was one of my most anticipated releases of 2016 and it totally delivered. Utterly Thrilling and unputdownable. The Enertia Trials should be the next big thing.

Afterimage is the first book!!!
This is the third book in the Enertia Trials series. You have been warned, there will be spoilers.

Overall: 5/5 Stars!!!

Summary:
Nate, has rushed ahead to go find Reggie after she was 'taken' from them at Public One. Ransley and Royland are having their own difficultly catching up to Nate. He's on his own and reckless. With nothing to lose, can he protect himself to save Reggie?

Dislikes:
N/A

Likes:
This story has such a diverse range of characters that do not seem like a cohesive group at first glance, but all fit each other quite perfectly. The gut punching plot twists that make our hearts drop to our stomachs. Kowallis has a way with words that just blows me away. She can pull you into that dark ominous hallway with guards right around the corner. The fear making your blood run cold but the hope in your heart making you strive to push forward.

Overall:
This series continues to amaze me and rip out my heart at every turn. I am in this for the long haul but I'm not sure how much more my heart can take. Please give this series a try if you haven't already.

This book is raw, tender and fierce. Every single aspect of it. I never wanted this book to end because then, I would have to wait another year for the last book in the Enertia Trials to come out.

This book is by far the most depressing of all. Reggie is locked up most of the time and has to face with nightmares that wouldn't stop intruding her conscience. Nate is being the moody self that he is. But now, even more than ever that Reggie is gone and captured by the bad guys. Ransley and Roy too has a lot to reflect and ponder. Ransley just wouldn't let go of the past and ends up crushing both of their souls.

Its a great addition to have London back. I've always liked that kid. Even though he is a bit too young to go into the enemy's territory and help Nate fight the evil wards. But, yes to young courage and bravery.

I would gladly be in the story to kill off Martin Lobb and Roman. Those guys are pure evil and justice needs to be prevailed on them. Its not fair how much other people are suffering because of them. Yes, they are fictional. But fictional characters almost always have the tendency to make an impact on us - without even realising it until its too far deep.

I really enjoyed myself reading this phenomenal book. I was constantly on edge to find out what happens next as the story progresses.

This book ended with my heart utterly broken. Although, I have a theory that could prove it otherwise. For now, I'll just calmly wait for the final book to be released.

*cries a river*

I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy of Duality provided by Xpresso Tours and the author. Hands down the best futuristic/dystopian series I've ever read!

With the release of Dominion just around the corner, I decided to re-read Duality because I wanted to refresh my memory before I dive into the next instalment. How is it possible to feel utterly shell-shocked like the first time was way beyond me, but I guess that's one of the author's magical powers. I knew what was coming, I was bracing myself for every plot twist and earth-shattering revelations but nothing could prepare me for the onslaught of emotions that coursed through my heart with each word.

I'm a huge fan of dystopia - Divergent, Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, you name it and I'll devour it - but in my years of reading experience, I've never come across a series quite like this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not implying that the other dystopian novels are mediocre in any sense, it's just that the Enertia Trials sang to me like a siren. The plotline, the characters, and the entire setting was so vividly crafted, it truly was a brilliant masterpiece.

Oh my Nate and Reggie.

It was painful. The entire book was a replica of your worst nightmare. Every anguish, desperation, and fear could be felt through the character's words and I was hanging by a thin thread. I should have expected things to go bat-shit crazy but the shocking truth never failed to stun me into a stupor. My heart wept for Nate and Reggie, just when there's a sign of hope, things would turn awry - but I certainly wasn't expecting that ending. I wanted to scream, shout, hit something and most of all, cry like there's no tomorrow.

I've come to love Roy, Ransley, Reggie and Nate as my own - to see each of them so broken and battered was like a punch to the heart. That ending killed me but I couldn't wait to see what the author have in stores for us with Dominion.

Oh. Please give me a happy ending.

Even though this is the third book in the series, it still sparked the same amount of devastation and devotion as the previous 2 books did. Kowallis' writing is so incredibly addicting that I noticed my heart was breaking even before I had finished the first chapter. She has an effortless way to lure you into her world even when it's the worst place imaginable for anyone. These stories are told in so many point of views yet Kowallis somehow manages to make the next as intriguing as the last, if not more. The last book ended in such a heartbreaking cliffhanger that I was beyond scared to find out what else Kowallis had in store for us. Let's just say that my terror was not without reason.
This book was nothing short of brutality and gut wrenching chaos. I honestly don't know what to say that I haven't said before in the last two reviews for Kowallis. Every character brought the worst and best of each other and the plot line just kept getting more intense by the second.
I finally found out who I was most like from this series and that was Ransley. She's a badass fire-weaving fighter who is struggling to find out what is real and what isn't, in her heart and around her. Her internal struggle is where our similarities seemed to mold together plus the fact that we both speak Spanish. I couldn't appreciate the role that Spanish played in this book enough. Ransley is my twin and I'm not just saying that because I am madly and completely in love with her beautiful, smart-mouthed, duplicating bad boy boyfriend, Roydon. He made the book for me and I can't wait to see more of him.
We also have Reggie, our beloved character that is struggling with horrendous visions and whose point of views were the most excruciating of them all. Nate, who is putting his life on the line to save the love of his life. Liam, who I despised from the very beginning and who managed to duplicate my hatred for him every step of the way. All of their awful situations felt so raw and real and they even had the most realistic consequences. My heart just kept aching for them all and I couldn't stop crying once I got to the last half of the book.
After everything started hitting the fan at the end, I found myself knowing exactly what was about to happen in some places, and taken completely by surprise in others. I didn't want to continue the story anymore after that but I couldn't stop reading in the chance that I would be proved wrong. (I wasn't.)... Kowallis knows how to torture her readers as much as her characters.
Even though this world is absolute torture-in-a-book, I still find myself asking for more. I need the last book asap and all I ask is that justice better be served!

Wow! What a shocking ending! I definitely didn't see that coming at all.

J. Kowallis has done it again. Another gripping read that will have you holding on tight and not able to let go until the very end. This third book in the series did not disappoint at all. It was intense, thrilling, fast-paced, and action packed.

The writing was superb- as are all her books. It was descriptive in a way that was creative and made the story come alive. It made me feel as if I had stepped into this dystopian world. It all felt so real. This book really got into my head that by the time I went to sleep at night I was having vivid dreams that stemmed from the ideas in this book.

The chapters were the perfect length and I enjoyed reading the multiple points of view. It kept the story interesting and helped me grow close to these characters.

The characters become a lot more developed and I felt like I got to know them on an even deeper level than I already had. Little personality quirks come out and made them seem more personal. None of these characters held back. They were not messing around. They were determinded in their endeavors. Strong and fearless.

I felt like this book was the beginning of even more exciting moments to come. I can't WAIT for the final installment in this series! Waiting is going to be so difficult. This has quickly turned into one of my favorite new series. Definitely worthy of a re-read to experience the excitement all over again.

One of the BEST dystopian series ever written! You will be begging for more.

WOW! I am at a loss for words. This book will end you... Rip your heart out leaving you devastated.
The build up from book to book made the series that much more appealing. However, the shock factor in the third book just sent it over the edge.
Each book is better than the next, and I highly recommend them. I can't wait for the next installment.

Massive thanks to J. Kowallis for sending me an ARC in exchange of an honest review.

Duality by J. Kowallis is the third installment of a dystopia series called "The Enertia Trials", first book 'Afterimage' and second book 'Encender'.

Duality is one hell of a dystopia book. Its captivating, intense and heartbreaking-ly beautiful. I love it! It took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions and left me wanting more! Everything that you could want in a dystopia novel is in this series.

THE PLOT. Like the first two books of the series, Duality has its thrilling version of plot development, the way the reader anticipates on how all of this build up with the scenes and characters will come crashing down. I love how it unfolds and at some point the reader gets to be so nervous on what's to come because Kowallis gave her readers this style where "You get to see it coming but still you have to watch as it come and crashes down you." Amazing amazing plot development.

THE WRITING. I love J. Kowallis' writing style where she ensnares her readers and holds their interest an curiosity 'til the very end of the book. I also love how every detail in every scene especially in every character is discussed even the smallest and insignificant one because that way the characters felt more real with reader.

THE CHARACTERS. The character development of the book is good but the relationship development between each one is even better. The strain between the relationship of Roy and Ransley and how they find their way around it is a good spice added to the relationship of the two because after the events of 'Encender', I wouldn't expect the two of them to be all 'lovey dovey'. I'm glad that London is back and is with Nate, in this book I think London's got a nice touch in his character development because for a short moment Nate thought of him as  a 'man'. Nate, oh gosh, what's with the change of eye color? I love that on him! And Reggie, oh mu gosh, so much suffering yet so much strength! (that goes for both her and Nate) J. Kowallis loves to make her characters suffer, that I'm sure of. But I hope that they would have something so beautiful and divine at the end of the series. Every single one  of these people deserves something better. Oh and Liam? I thought at first the Liam before came back to life but nah, just a pretense. My gods I WANT HIM DEAD!

THE ENDING. J. Kowallis. That ending. WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO US?! Oh mu gosh that is just down right cruel, there's already so much feels and them you gave us that ending! My heart is a glass and you throw it to the ground and step on it for a good measure. All good though, but I need the fourth book ASAP!

I received a copy of Duality from Xpresso Book Reviews in return for an honest review.
Duality starts where Encender leaves off, and the non-stop action continues. A lot of stressful and brutal things happen in Duality. The relationships between characters are explored in more depth and we find out about the elusive Roman. The ending is "OMG -No!". There has got to be a fourth book.
If you are thinking about embarking on this series, definitely read them in order.

I love this series so much and this book broke my heart. What kind of book does the main character die?! I mean it is really well written and action packed. If I’m being honest it was the worst out of the series but that was because the other two were really good and this one was really sad and I hate betrayals but I highly recommend it.

DUALITY BY: J. KOWALLIS

OHHMGEE!! I don't even know where to start with this. Duality WRECKED me. This story was brutal. Completely devastating. The Enertia Trials have never been sunshine and rainbows, by any means, but this book was especially savage. And I loved every page of it, even when it destroyed me.

Duality picked up pretty much right where Encender left off. Our group of ragtag anti-heroes separated by wicked circumstance and fighting tooth and nail to get back to each other. The thing I really loved was that each person was going through so much externally and internally, it had kept me glued to the pages throughout the whole thing.
Reggie...oh gawd Reggie. My heart ached for her. Things were so dark for Reggie, but one thing that I felt never truly wavered, was her incredible strength and her deep seeded hope that the future could hold some light.

You could really tell just how much has happened in the two previous books because it all hung like a weight around Nate's shoulders in this one. I could feel the burden he carried. Constantly keeping it together and relentlessly moving forward in pursuit of the only thing left that truly mattered to him, Reggie. While he's always been the cool-headed guy taking charge, you started to see the cracks in this tough exterior. The pressure seemed to be breaking through in waves. It ended up making him more of a wild card than we've previously seen. And it amped up the anxiety big time. I kept trying to prepare myself for him to completely lose his shit all together.

Ransley...holy hell. I LOVE Ransley. She is the ultimate wild card, and I adore that about her. It's her unfathomable amount of passion that drives her and while it can definitely back fire (LITERALLY), it always comes from her heart. She isn't someone that gets close to people easily, but she is someone that would fight to the end of the Earth for you once you do break past the prickly exterior. As horrific as Reggie's struggles were, my heart freaking SHATTERED for Ransley. I just can't. I still can't even process what happened with her. I worry for her, I really do, maybe more than anyone else right now. I also have to say how absolutely PERFECT her ability is for her. This wild, ferocious, all consuming, and utterly beautiful thing. This girl is on fire!!!

All I can say is thank goodness for Roy. I feel like he was a solid anchor through this tale. He really stepped up and tried to hold things together while all hell was breaking loose around him. He was the yin to Ransely's yang, there's no arguing that. Which ultimately left Ransley questioning their relationship even more. I also think Roy has one of the COOLEST abilities I have EVER heard of. I love the idea of corporeal fission...imagine how much you could accomplish with that ability?! All the books you could read!!!

Okay, so besides the AMAZING line-up of characters, this story was a pulse-pounding, anxiety inducing, heart-breaking roller-coaster ride that you won't want to end. It is EVERYTHING I want in a dystopian book especially. It is vicious, ruthless and so utterly raw, it will scrape against your nerve endings and you'll keep wanting more. I can't recommend this series enough! Each new addition has topped the last, even when I thought there was no way that was even possible! Be forewarned though, this book will gut you. It will tear you apart and turn you into a bloodthirsty animal by the end. I can't wait to see what happens next, for so many reasons, but especially after that heart-wrenching ending!

I also want to get personal and even more fan-girly for a quick moment. A million squees and thanks to J. Kowallis for so many things, the beautiful paperback copy of this book for review (which totally floored me to see my quote on the cover!), the super sweet shout out in the Acknowledgments, and more than anything, for being such a kind, cool, and totally bad-ass story teller that weaves these deliciously addictive tales that I can't get enough of! Thank you, a million times, thank you!

This series, is making me want more and more.
I am dying to read the last book *-*

The plots were perfect, and the twist, was NOT predictable at all. That is a huge deal because this twist shocked me more than most twists do. Amazing work there.

I loved the characters even more, and no one annoys me. That is, no one who should not be annoying me.

This book is nothing short of amazing! I was a little worried when I started it because it's been a few months since I read the previous books in the series. I had nothing to worry about though because I jumped right back into this creative story. As soon as I started it the cliffhanger ending of Encender came back to me.

This book picks up where Encender dropped off with Reggie captured by The Public...again. Nate, Ransley and Roy fighting to get her back. Nate goes ahead of the rest of the group to get to The Public first. Ransley and Roy have a few errands to run first, mainly blowing some stuff up. Will they all be able to get to Reggie before it's too late? Will she be the same if they do find her?

Reggie is being tortured with hallucinations. At first, they seem like her regular visions except they are things that won't come true. It gets to the point where she can't tell if she is dreaming or awake anymore.

As in the last book I loved me some Roy and Ransley. They were very entertaining because they are always snapping at each other. Even though they snap at each other constantly and Ransley spends more time being mad at Roy than not, they are still good together. Even though it was full of cheese, I loved Roy's speech to Ransley near the end of the book. It was kind of needed in this book. I think we need more men like Nate in the world. Sure, he was a complete ass at times and he is hard to like sometimes but he would do anything to get Reggie back. Come on, you can't hate him for that it's kind of sweet.

Roman's true identity was kind of a duh moment but his power is super cool. His power would come in handy more than any of the others, that's for sure.

That ending, though! I'm seriously still trying to recover from that craziness. It was so heart-poundingly thrilling and I literally gasped at one point. I wish I could say what happened but you'll have to read it to find out. All I can say is I can't wait for the next book.

**I received a copy of the e-book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review**

The third book of the series,Duality, lives up to its expectations, like it meets all the standards set by the first two books, and is captivating in its own way.The writing is as usual so fresh and eloquent. The word and character building continues.Things take a different form in this book.Like Reggie’s useful visions, they become nightmarish hallucinations, you meet some old characters that might not have shown up in the second book and of course, you meet a brand new character. If you did read the first two books, you might be expecting one particular character, just saying,it may or may not be the same character.Who knows,it might even an old character thought dead, but not dead?Sorry,I’m getting sidetracked by the character! What I’m saying is that this book is as thrilling and exciting as the other two books, and also highly devastating. This book will give you hope, joy, sadness, wreck you ,shatter your precious heart into pieces, make you wish that it wasn’t really happening, but at the end, you’ll love it.Like you’ll love the book, because you cannot just not love a book with such fresh writing, fascinating world building and amazing character development.Like I loved each and every one of the characters…well,at least the good-natured ones..like Reggie,Nate,Ransley and Roydon. Each one of them has their own personality,Reggie with her serene nature, hard but caring Nate, kick ass Ransley, bad boy Roydon, you’ll sure love them all.
This is not a series that you dystopia loving book dragons should miss!

my god, that’s the first thing that came into my mind when i finished the book. Duality was one of my most anticipated releases and it didn’t disappoint. It’s hard for me to review this beauty because it was simply incredible.
Storyline? Intriguing, action pack, emotional.

Characters? freaking epic.

Writing style? glorious.

Ending? *cries* heartbreaking.

This book was such a wild ride, never a boring second. It’s extremely well-done. Unpredictable and full of twists. I never expected to be THAT invested in the series, but i care so much about those characters. They all have such a strong personality and when they are all together, it’s impossible not to enjoy it. Nate. Oh, my dear Nate. I just want him to be okay and happy, is that too much to ask?! His character survived so much and I really feel like his vulnerability was more visible in that book. I just wanted to hug him and tell him it was gonna be okay. Same for Ransley. She is incredible and her power is probably my favorite. Her interaction with Roydon are perfect. and Roydon, in this crazy dystopian world, you still find a way of making me smile. i LOVE him.

You guys have no idea how EXCITED (and maybe a bit scared too) about the next book.

okay, enough with the fangirling now, if you haven’t read The Enertia Trials yet, please do. It’s sooooo good.

**** 5 Cranky Stars ****

After Reggie was taken by Martin Lobb, Nate and London leave for Public 3 in Europe to rescue Reggie. Roy and Ransly follow shortly after. Reggie is being subjected to severe mental and physical abuse by a faceless assailant, who is trying to turn her against Nate.

An incredibly intense adventure follows with Nate close to loosing his grip on reality.

We see London maturing rapidly and even Ransly's selfishness gets turned around and she starts taking other people into consideration. We are also introduced to Roman, the fourth member of the team with abilities!

Major treachery and loss are the hallmark of this episode of the Enertia saga and all I can say without giving spoilers is that my heart was beating in my throat and I shed tears more than once.

This absolutly incredible book deserves and gets 5 stars.

Terrific third book for the series! I have just one criticism... it had been so long since I read the first two books that it took me a long time, and a lot of confusion the first fourth of the book, before I began to piece together what happened from my memories. More flashbacks, more recaps of what happened previously would have been helpful. Other than that....

Just as captivating as the first two... but far more heartbreaking.

Please tell me the end events aren't permanent, that a certain character comes back in the next book! The preview for Dominion kinda seemed like it features this character, oh please tell me they come back! Please!

This character was the glue... for both the story and for many of the relationships... they can't be dead for good... can they?

I NEEED the next book!

My god, that ending!! Am I allowed to ugly cry now?? My emotions are all over the place and my heart is broken. what the heck.

Duality is definitely my favorite out of the series so far!
I love the fact that this book is just as fast-paced, action packed and an emotional rollercoaster as the previous two. There is literally never a dull moment with these characters and their actions.

The fourth book needs to come out like asap, because I need to know how this story is going to progress after that heartbreaking ending.

If any of you are looking for a new dystopian series with epic badass characters and plenty of brutal, action-packed scenes, definitely give these books a chance.

Another continuation to the amazing Enertia Trials series as Nate, Reggie, and the other face their challenges to fight Lobb and other people that will get in their way.

I swear, this is getting darker and heartbreaking at the same time. It's like each book keeps getting you hyper and hyper until you reach the very last book.

Im crying because we're getting closer to the end. I love how Im a part of this world and how it keeps breaking every single piece of me.

A worthy 5 stars indeed!
