Arabella is 19 and has the world at her feet. At such a young age she has a vision. She wants to be a fashion designer and own her own string of boutiques. The only thing is Bella is sheltered. She is the youngest of four and the only girl so the outside world isn’t something that she has ever had to deal with alone. She’s never had a date and never been kissed. But that’s fine she has her ambition to keep her warm at night.
In walks Blaze. At the age of 26 he has a string of clubs and real estate that afford him and his wife Shanice a life of luxury. The only problem seems to be that Shanice is only worried about the money. She doesn’t seem to give a rats ass about her husband or their marriage. Until Blaze’s focus is pulled by Bella who is beautiful inside and out.
With all these obstacles Blaze and Bella could never be. Or can they make it work?
I started reading this book not because it was on my TBR list because I just had to ensure that the book was not what some of these individuals are claiming that it is. First and foremost I would be remiss without acknowledging the blatant disrespect and simple-mindedness that some individuals that call themselves reviewers have shown. In urban fiction many plots are so similar that it can be said that there is a blueprint or list that is followed by many to write a specific storyline. What sets authors apart in this genre is there execution and ability to weave a tale that has been told many times into a fresh and different outlook than the next man or woman writing about a similar urban experience. So going in with an open mind and a clear resolve to be COMPLETELY honest and concise with my feedback I won't delay with my findings/observations of this book. First of all the book is centered around Blaze, Arabella, Omari, Bronx, Andre, Zay,Tree and Shanicia. When the story opens we are introduced to a young, naive somewhat shy Arabella who is affectionately called Bella by her family and friends. Although young she possesses a sense of determination, motivation, and ambition to accomplish the goals that she has set forth for herself. She took collegiate courses while in high school to help accelerate to her college degree. We find that Bella is the baby of the family and is equally doted upon by both her older brothers and parents. Blaze enters the picture and we see that he is married to a materialistic, shrewish woman who thinks of nothing but spending money and doing what makes her happy with no thought to anyone else's(namely her husband Blaze) happiness or need. Blaze is your typical hustler turned legit in that he owns a tattoo parlor, barbershop, and several night clubs. Bella and Tree are extremely close and not even blood could make them closer. We first see Bella and Blaze interact when Tree and Bronx invite her to the club or maybe I should say force her to get out and go to the club with them. She arrives and immediately is captivated by Blaze. The chemistry between these two is palpable and this begins a situationship that is fraught with tension, ups & downs, and an almost unearthly pull between the two that simply can not be ignored or extinguished. Now anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely HATE sidechick stories and typically stay as far away as possible. The thing is though in this book the wife, Shanicia in no way shape form or fashion has the qualities or characteristics that would enable the reader to feel any type of way about her being the wronged party. She was selfish, childish, and maybe even a little touched in the head with the way she acts and carries herself. The brothers in this story are overly protective but it is clear to all who read the story that they love Bella passionately. Tree is a wonderful friend and is willing and certainly able to ride for her best friend. I think that there were instances in the story where the writer could have taken advantage and fleshed out some of the characters more. For example she eludes to Tree being front and center to abuse that transpired between her mother and father hence her reason for not liking Dre. We get that one mention but nothing else about that. Another such example occurs when she mentions that Bella and Lexi, aren't very close. We know that she has been around for a while but we don't get the how and why of them not being close since Bella is so close to her brothers. We then see after one conversation that takes place between these two ladies they are suddenly hanging together and talking when before it was if they didn't really have a relationship at all. Another take away from the story would have to be the reason behind Omari not talking. Many people mention that he is recalcitrant and stoic in demeanor but other than those mentioning we never actually know why he is this way or if there is even a reason. The fact that it was mentioned several times by several different characters leads me to believe that there could possibly be more to the story. While these were issues for me it still doesn't take away from the fact that the author did a durn good job with crafting both an entertaining story and a story that leaves me wanting more. Now as far as Bella and Blaze go I want them together but I just really feel it was a punk move for Blaze to involve Bella in a situation when he hadn't closed the chapter with Shanicia. No woman deserves that no matter how trifling they are. Him saying that he is looking for a reason to leave just left a bad taste in my mouth and made him appear to be very selfish in my opinion. When the author tells us that he spoke with Bella about the issues that he was having with his wife I literally set the kindle down and did a breathing exercise. I just didn't get how that would first of all fly with Bella and secondly even remotely be something that he felt was appropriate. I don't want to give the entire story away but just know that while many others have so callously and erroneously determined that this story is a DIRECT COPY of another I dare you to take a chance and read it for yourself. I will in no way shape form or fashion say that it doesn't bear similarities to the story that has everyone up in arms but what I can say is if you pull half of the urban books off of the shelf and compare you will find similarities in those stories as well. No one writer has the patent on what transpires in the hood day in and day out. So with that being said take a chance on this young writer and read this very entertaining tale for yourself!!! Good Job Ms. Vaneecia I can't wait to see in what direction you decide to take each one of these characters.
This love story is wrong on so many levels! Like how you gone be a grown as married man and try to make a side chick out of a 19 year old. I was so mad at Blaze. But this story was so true to life. I’ve known so many that have had married young and later cheated. I don’t have to like what this story is about but I love how it idols turning out.
Not into side piece books and had I known this was one I would’ve passed on it. The little bit of a relationship between Blaze and Belle wasn’t really much for either of them to be so into each other. Shanice sticking around putting up with the nonsense was even sillier.
What a different perspective on a love triangle. This was the first time that I felt like I could be cool with a side chick situation. The characters were well thought out and I appreciate that fact as a reader.
This book was so good. Even though Bella and Blaze was wrong I want them to be together. Shanice been hiding her crazy side all along. On to reading part two
This was a good read. The storyline however, lacked originality, but it was executed well. I did note thou that in the ending of the storyline there was a little originality. I could not get over the fact thou that ALL the main characters either possess gray or green eyes. Really thou? Brown eyes are sexy too! More research needs to be done to avoid similar storylines.. Hoping part two will scream original.
Blaze was all the way wrong. He knew he was falling out of love with Shanice so he should of been man enough to let her go. Bella wasn't innocent neither but what happened to her was uncalled for. Need to part 2 Ms. Vaneecia
This book was good. The storyline wasnt original in my opinion. I like Bella and Blaaze together but that Shanice was something else. Cant wait to see what will happened in part 2
