The La Roux ancestral home may be gone, but the horror it once sheltered is still alive. Marigold is hunted, tormented by a demon that hungers for her to kill. She doesn’t know how much longer she can resist. In a desperate attempt to keep her sanity, Marigold flees to the rusted remains of a paddle steamer, deep in the heart of the Louisiana bayous. Here, the only people she encounters are long since dead. The ghosts that haunt the boat are possessive and territorial. They keep the demon from entering. But there are many lost souls that roam the backwaters. They are drawn to the boat, to the life on board. Marigold’s hiding place may soon become her grave. Isolated and trapped, Marigold and Louis fight to resist the sinister forces mounting around them. But when night falls and the fog rolls in, the ghosts become hungry and restless. A sacrifice must be made. Her sanity or her life; they won’t allow her to keep both. Revised and re-edited April 2017
Second book in series and things are getting interesting
This series started off well in the first book, Black Bayou and this second book built on this. The nice thing about this series so far is that the author has kept to a small ensemble cast. So, although the books themselves are quick reads, the small number of characters means that the they are well written.
We’ve moved to a river setting where Marigold is trying hide from her family legacy. However, nothing is safe and things devolve quickly. Louis tries to help but things go, very, very bad. Yet again the action is fast paced and when you arrive at the end you have more questions than answers. This means I’m off now to read book 3.
The second book in the series picks up right where the first left off. Our poor Marigold is holding up in an old haunted cruise ship stranded in the bayou. The reason for this being she needs protection from our evil demon friend from book one. He just won’t quit though. Using the ghosts lingering on and around the ship as a blanket of protection (Ghosts don’t like to have turf wars?) can only last so long. This big bad is not giving up anytime soon. The demon is growing stronger leeching power from an unknown source. Marigold and Louis get some unexpected help from two new characters. Louis’s cousin Cordelia and her new husband Rene join the fight against new and old enemy’s alike. Will the four of them be strong enough to conquer the evils of the bayou?
Not quite as compelling as the first entry but still good overall. I’ve never read such a descriptive ritual scene before. I couldn’t stop cringing at what happens to Marigold’s legs. The ending took me by complete surprise. Was that a reverse exorcism?

Book 2 of the Dark Legacy Series picks up three months after the events of Black Bayou. Marigold is surviving. Her only friend in the world is Louis who is struggling to keep her safe. Louis has hidden Marigold away leaving her isolated in an attempt to buy them some time and figure out their next move. As things around Marigold escalate she chooses not to confide in Louis; but withholding information could cost both of them their lives. This book is an excellent bridge between Black Bayou and the 3rd story in the trilogy. It is another fast-paced novel that leaves you wanting more. My only criticism is that I would have liked to see the events go over a longer period of time. This would have made the book longer and given the reader more time with the characters and the situation as quickly unfolds. I am absolutely looking forward to book 3.
Great follow up but make sure you have the next book ready!
Plunged straight back into the action this book doesn't waste a line or word in its attempt to build up the tension and fear. Just make sure you have the next one downloading ready to go!
Once again, I was so engrossed that I was sad it was the end. Characters are wonderful, storyline is great. This series grabs the readers attention and holds on tight.
I like this book much better than the first in this series. I was delightfully scared, and hooked from the start. My only complaint is that it ends with a cliffhanger, but at least the next book is out.
Never have I ever read a book with such a lonely frightful theme. I found it interesting that Louis and Marigold made such an well intended decision for where she could stay- using possessive ghosts to create a faux safe haven, only to possess her with the exact demon they were trying to keep out.
Inherit a title but you also inherit a demon who requires bloody murder sacrifices. This is one severely twisted family that Marigold finds she is part of. Add in ghosts, voodoo, New Orleans and this ride is fleshing out to be quite a story. Must read book 1 first, but 2 was as good if not better than the first book. I'm ready to see if its all tied up in Book 3.
I read the first one in the series, enjoyed the story. This one is a mess. Badly needs proof reading, and spell check. If you did not read the first book, you will not have a clue what is going on. I saw real promise in her first book. A book that cannot be read as a stand alone is not a good book. Just picking up and dropping off anywhere is a cheap ploy to force sales. A good book will sell on its own merit. Will not read another of her books unless she uses her real talent to write a complete book.
Still a good read. Mostly action with no resolution. The ending is abrupt and leaves the reader wanting the next in series.. I will read the next book in this series. The storyline and character development are what I loved in the first book, this continues that development.
