Rate this book
Inside every mother is a fierce, resilient, intuitive woman who has the ability to tap into an indomitable mindset and create heroic outcomes—for her children, her family, her community and for herself—she is a Warrior Mom. In Warrior Mom, (previously published as Miracle Mindset), celebrity health expert and four-time New York Times bestselling author, JJ Virgin reveals how one life-altering event taught her to trust her instincts, pay attention to the details that matter and defy the odds—and she shares how you can too.In 2012, JJ Virgin was in a hospital room next to her sixteen-year-old son who was struck by a hit-and-run driver and left for dead. She was told by doctors that he wouldn't last through the night and to let him go. With every reason to give up, JJ chose instead to invest her energy into the hope that her son would not just survive, but thrive. In Warrior Mom, she shares the lessons that gave her the courage to overcome the worst moment of her life. During this difficult time, she learned valuable personal lessons that helped her rebuild her life and find success and purpose in herself, her work, and teach her sons and community how to face their own obstacles and trials. Lessons like “Don’t Wish It Were Easier, Make Yourself Stronger” and “Your Limitations Will Become Your Life” will lead you to your own personal power and purpose, even when the deck seems stacked against you. With true stories from her life, her clients, and other well-known thought leaders, she can help you transform your mindset and your daily habits to endure the difficult battles that life sends your way. Insightful, personal, and completely relatable, this book proves that miracles are possible when you show up, remain positive, and do the work.

I was terribly disappointed with this book. This could have been an amazing book full of lessons, but it wasn't. The author stated on page 5 that she was going to share 7 lessons that she learned during the tragedy that her family had to deal with, but she didn't. The lessons were there, but she absolutely did not write about them, she simply told her story from beginning to end. I was disappointed because I had my highlighter out ready to take notes (like I always do when I read), but there was nothing for me to take notes on to share with anyone later. The first lesson I believe she could have shared, and taken the opportunity to connect with the reader is when she refused to listen to the doctors when they were telling her that since the odds were stacked against her son that she should give up and let him go. After telling that part of the story she could have taken the opportunity to encourage the reader to never give up, no matter what the odds are. So many times in relationships and careers things seem like they will never work out based on the external circumstances and people tend to give up simply because the odds are stacked against them. The author did not attempt to connect with the reader in any way, she simply told her story. Which is fine if you read for entertainment or just to feel good. I don't. When I read I'm always looking for books that I can share with others that will help them grow. I could see the lessons in this book without the author pointing them out, but the average reader will miss the lessons and only take away the fact that her son survived a tragic accident.

Inspiring without being maudlin

The book is very different than the video. The book is about her journey. The video is about Grant's journey. Miracle mindset is more than positive thinking; it is about persistence and determination in the face of adversity. Her journey was one of self-discovery. In spite of the traumas she had, she not only endured --- she thrived. Physical, emotional, and mental health are inseparable. They cannot be isolated and treated separately, as our medical system tries to do. This is the great lesson she can teach us.

While I can emphasize with the Author, and what she described as going through in her life, the book did not resonate with me, as deeply as I thought it would. I did not connect with her, her writing style, and the entirety of the book. I am sure that others find more value in her style of story telling.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review

"Your limitations will become your life." My favorite line from this book.

For me this was an easy uplifting read that reminds me to keep going, to trust myself. It was so much more than that but I took away what I needed to in this moment. Best wishes to this strong woman and her family who will survive and thrive.

I found it interesting and inspiring, though I do feel like the connection to the Miracle Mindset was tenuous at best. It was a great tale to hear her story and journey after her son went through a terrible accident. Sometimes when things get tough I think, "If she could go through that I can go through this." If the summary appeals to you, I think you'll like it.

The story was compelling and I would have liked to go to the links mentioned in the book at the end of each chapter but they don't work any more and the only way to find out more is to pay a fee so in the end I felt the author was just doing some very clever self promotion in order to make more money.

This was a fast read, the story is inspiring but I felt the writing at some parts can be made more interesting. I Appreciate the author, she has put a lot of effort to pen it down in the best possible way she could.

Inspiring story about JJ's son Grant. What struck me the most is how staying healthy was a top priority for JJ - knowing that she needed to be strong and healthy to make all the right decisions for her son. That was the part that inspired me the most.

Too much like an infomercial for her The Virgin Diet Book. A link at the end of each chapter for her website.

I guess I was hoping for more. I appreciated reading the difficult journey JJ's family has been through because of her son's accident. However, the advice she gives for the "miracle mindset" basically is a positive attitude and not accepting that her son wouldn't recover 110%. I think all parents would do everything possible to save their child. I did like that she didn't waste energy or time hunting down the hit and run driver. I agree, it doesn't really matter. The driver will have to live with their choice for the rest of his life.

We were sent a review copy of Miracle Mindset by the publicist. There was no cost for this nor was there any obligation to write a review, positive or otherwise.

Miracle Mindset by J. J. Virgin is the story of how one woman and her family survived the tragic ordeal of her son being struck down by a hit and run driver and left for dead.

The author tells her story of how she had to fight with doctors who gave her son no chance to live. How she had to fight with hospitals to get proper treatment for her son.

The author had to do this while launching a book, which became a best seller, The Virgin Diet.

The author explains the value of fish oil in the diet to improve brain function and the value of reducing sugar in the diet.

Miracle Mindset is educational as well as inspirational and entertaining.
March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. This coincides with the book’s launch.

Even though I had heard much of this story told in bits and pieces in various interviews, I really enjoyed the way JJ put it all together. So many amazing take-aways on attitude, perspective and gratitude, no matter what your individual circumstances. Definitely worth a read, even if you're not familiar with her career and other books.

This is the autobiography of the mother of a critically injured teenage boy. It so happens that the author was a somewhat famous dieting guru before her son's accident, and she had a lot of the skills and infrastructure in place to give us a detailed look at her experience. Most powerful is the author's examination of herself, and the changes she needed to make in order to give her son the best chance of recovery. The medical details are anecdotal, though. I think Virgin probably did something right, but I'm skeptical about the fish oil. I would have liked to see her team up with a doctor or hospital administrator to give an analytical balance to the emotional story. The emotional story, though, felt real.

I had the opportunity to hear JJ speak and share the story of her son at Best Year Ever Blueprint with Hal Elrod. The challenges that the family experienced truly made them stronger and is an inspiration for many. Thank you for sharing your story and wisdom on how to be bold, brave and resilient. I’m slightly torn with this book. I truly enjoyed the motivation themes in this book but the humble brag was a little too much for me. I’d recommend this book though

The story was very motivating and well written. My only complaint is that in a few places towards the end it started to get a bit long and I wished that it would have ended a bit sooner.
