Reunited with her people, Shanti knows that she must make a move in order to finally put her duty to rest. But as always, Xandre is one step ahead of her.

For one brief moment when she lets down her guard, Shanti falls into enemy hands. But if Xandre thought she would be a docile prisoner, he was sadly mistaken.

With Shanti running interference, it is up to the boys she has trained, and the army Cayan leads, to fight their way to her side.

The fate of the land will finally be decided.

Which side will be overtaken?

Actual rating: 2.5 stars. Foreseen this I could have not.

I was slightly pissed off when I wrote my crappy pre-review nonsense for this book. Now I'm still kinda sorta slightly pissed off, but this is still one of my favourite series ever and Shanti is one of the Mostest Wondrousest Female Characters Ever (MWCE™), so I decided to be uncharacteristically kind and magnanimous and considerate, and go for a full 3-star rating instead of a 2.5-star one. Pretty sure it will do wonders for my karma, too.

It's okay. I can do this. Of course I can. I'm nefarious and stuff. I can surely survive not fangirling about this book, when I have been slightly raving about this series for the last two bloody shrimping years. I can do this, I can do this, I can do this. No biggie.

Right. In order to ensure my survival, I think I better try and make this short, and as painless as possible. Here goes.

How to effectively ruin the conclusion to a brilliantly scrumptious series:

Stretch things out to oblivion:
The events that take place here should have been part of an instalment in this series, but definitely not a whole book. This feels watered down. This feels diluted. And this feels bloody neverending. Which, at 318 pages, is quite a feat. Yay.

Blah blah blah your readers to death:
The dialogues in this series have always been of the deliciously snarky, hahaha, bloody shrimping awesome kind. Here? YAWN. They just go on and on and on and on and on ad nauseam. Bleh, meh and stuff.

Turn your beloved ass-kicking, bloodthirsty, slightly antisocial heroine into a disgustingly mushy protagonist.
Yuck yuck yuck, EW EW EW. Okay, so Shanti is still as deliciously cut cut cut slice slice slice as ever (thank our Lord Shrimp for that!), but it still doesn't make up for her becoming such a lurve…Thing. And it kind of makes her come across as having been "tamed" or something. And that, my Little Barnacles, sucks BIG TIME. Especially when you know what Shanti was like at the beginning of this series: all tough and independent and girl power and men are pathetically useless (and uselessly pathetic) and one day women will rule the world and stuff. Now it's all Cayan this and Cayan that I am in lurrrrve and please excuse me while I slightly puke.

End it all in a blaze of revolting HEA of Doom and Destruction.
A bloody shrimping proposal? Talk of bloody shrimping BABIES? What is this? Freaking PNR or something? Oh, damn, I think I'm going to be sick again.

Okay, you know what? Fish it all to hell. I'm done being uncharacteristically kind and magnanimous and considerate and stuff. Back to a 2.5-star rating we go. Because some things will NOT do. And because some things are just NOT done.

Bye now. Sorry, no time for a moral today, I'm off to get slightly wasted in an effort to forget this book ever existed and stuff.

Oh, bloody hell, they got Shanti's hair color wrong again. She is blonde, you people who designed the cover, BLONDE.

Oh, well. This will be the last instalment in the series so I guess all hope of Shanti getting a decent dye job is lost now.

But anyway. What I originally wanted to say was:

This is a good end to a fun and full of action series with a kick-ass hero lady who never pulls punches! The world building was great throughout and the characters were true to themselves and never let us down. I thoroughly enjoyed all the books, although I thought the last two books could have been condensed into one longer one, but not two as long as they are. What kept the books from becoming too monotonous was the humor and the very likable young Shanti's personal honor guard! As well as one of the more memorable horses with a baaaaad attitude. But of all the recurring characters, Leilius stole my heart! He was why I always picked-up the next book and in this one he features prominently, so I have nothing to complain!

After taking over the occupied city in the previous book, Shanti, Cayan and all of their friends go on the offensive and follow Xandre and his goons. However, this seems to be exactly what Xandre is counting on and sets a trap to capture the biggest price - Shanti. He seems to have succeeded, but our girl and her young followers never go down easy - they fight, kick, cheat and bite to the end! And as we all suspected from book one on, yes, there is the Happily Ever After we were promised and it was sweet and adorable, and I thought it was a great ending for a girl who never expected she would ever have the right to expect or deserve, or even wish for all she got in the end. I know that some of my friends find this not to be in the spirit of the warrior lady hero she showed us to be all of this time, but I think even lady heroes need a break and something they would cherish at the end, even if it isn't something we might have expected her to want or need. *Big Sigh* Ahhhhh, love.....!!!!

Was this the strongest book in the series? No. But it was in the spirit of the series and I am glad that this one was the last, since it did seem the author was running out of ways to prolong it. All good things have to come to an end and a good one is always preferable:) I would recommend this series to all who love a good strong female character and hilarious banter, as well as some battles and good sword-fights:)

Now I wish you all Happy Reading and many more Wonderful Books to come!!!

I'M NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE JUST YET!

5-DON'T-ACT-LIKE-YOU'RE-SURPRISED-BY-THIS-RATING STARS

I've had a hard time reading this partly because I know full well it would be the last time I'd be stepping into this world chock-full of adventures and wittiness and loyalty. *CUE THE TEARS* And partly because I've been binge watching Star Wars.

Plotwise, I thought it had a couple of gaps and holes that doesn't make sense. The bits about Burson was effing confusing too and didn't help the story at all. But what it lacks in complexity of the plot it makes up for in entertaining and likable characters and witty dialogues. Big time.

•••

“Will you be coming with me?”

Boas finished his pint. He wiped his mouth and set his mug to the side. “In a way. I’ll be near you, but not with you.”

Leilius rolled his eyes. “Fine. I’ll head out, then. Where will I meet you?”

“Depends on what you find.”

“Do you make my life more difficult intentionally?”

“Yes.”

•••

Xavier leaned back and looked around. “Anyone know where we might be within the interior layout?”

“Does it look like I build castles for a living?”

•••

I'm such a sucker for sarcastic responses. Sorry.

When I got to the last few pages all I kept thinking was, "Dammit, this better have a long ass epilogue!". Unfortunately, no epilogue was found. BUT I went to K.F. Breene's site and found out she posted a Bonus Epilogue there and I just about peed my pants in excitement. I'd take every drop of The Warrior Chronicles' world the author is willing to give.

I'm gonna miss this series so freaking bad.

✅🆗 Romance

🆗 Plot (repetitive)

I feel that the events that take place in this book could have been part of a previous book in this series, but not necessarily a whole book. Things felt, once again, repetitive. It is a good conclusion to the series, but I am glad that it is over because I was starting to lose interest in Shanti's mighty quest.

The way some things happened feels way too convenient, and some parts were not clear enough, creating an overall effect of "Meh, I was expecting more". And the whole big fighting grand finale I was looking for? It wasn't there.

The dialogues in this series have always been one of my favorite parts. They are funny, snarky, and sarcastic... Especially if Sander is involved, he is, without hesitation, one of the best characters in this series. The situations involving the Shumas or Shadows and their lack of modesty never fail to crack me up.

Tanna shook her head as Tilas, one of the Shumas they’d met up with before the battle with Xandre, walked toward them wearing a frilly dress. It stretched wide on his upper body, was bunched in the middle, and fell to his shins. Shanti rubbed her temples. “What the fuck?”
“What’s wrong?” Tilas asked. He didn’t speak the language, but he could understand much of it.
“That’s women’s clothing, Tilas. Where did you get it?”
“It was on a clothesline. It gives my balls breathing room. Don’t worry, I asked before I borrowed it.”
“What in the holy hell?” Sanders yelled from down the street. The old man, who was on another lap, caught sight of Sanders and picked up his pace, getting out of there.
“He can handle it,” Cayan said, taking Shanti’s hand. “He loves dealing with your people and their confusion over our customs.”
“They won’t understand each other,” Shanti said.
“He’ll get to yell louder, then.” Cayan smiled, his dimples enhancing his handsomeness.

There is an epilogue that can be found on the author's website, so I'll go read it now so I can officially say that I finished this series. The warrior chronicle is a very enjoyable series, especially the first books, but sadly it dragged on near the end and was not as exciting as it was in the beginning.

Great, amazing, fun read! You will be missed!

Overall, it's a great, amazing series, and I will definitely miss it. I'll miss the boys a lot, probably.
And I will check this author more.

This is definitely a series I'd recommend. It's exciting, full of action, wonderfully written, with great characters and an amazing world.

am I fangirling? Well, yes. Yes, I am.

It will be impossible to put down and you will probably be sorry it ended. Addictive, in the best way possible. Worth trying.

I absolutely love the Warrior Chronicles series by K.F. Breene but I had the final book, Overtaken, sat on my kindle for months before I eventually got around to reading it because I just didn't want the series to be over. I've really grown to love Shanti, Cayan and the others so I wasn't ready to say goodbye to them and if I'm honest even now I'm hoping the author may decide to go back to this world in the future so we can see how everyone is getting on!

So this is it, the book we've all been waiting for and the showdown between Shanti and Xandre, everything the entire series has been building towards. So was it worth the wait? Thankfully I'd have to say yes it was. I love so many characters in these books and they all get the chance to shine here, it has all the snarky banter I was expecting, lots of action, lots of Shanti kicking butt, some really sweet moments between Shanti and Cayan and it has the happy ending I was hoping for. There isn't an epilogue in the story which I was initially disappointed by but then I realised the author has posted a free epilogue on her website and trust me if you enjoyed this series you won't want to miss that.

I'm going to miss this world and these characters but I guess that's the great thing about rereads, I can revisit them anytime I want to!

Chills.....this book gave me the chills.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. There is not a strong sexual chemistry to the book but Breene makes up for it in brilliant writing.

Epic storyline!
Beautiful past, present and future character builds!
From the FMC and MC to the secondary characters you feel you know each and everyone!
HEA with such expressive and emotional writing!

So glad I picked this series up.

Happy reading,
DD 💕

While the whole series is good, unfortunately this one not working for me:((
Too many honor guards' POV, it feel like a YA book, boo!:(
No, not cute! I wasn't complaining with the lack of Shanti's and Cayan's time together but I hated to get those kids' bickering POV so much!!

Also Shanti and Cayan separately about 2/3 of the book, that's not what I expected in the last book of this series and no epilogue here either, however you can get it from the author's website.

And the whole big fighting war I was looking for? It wasn't here, the worst book in the series for me but I still like the series very much though and the epilogue is lovely:)

Oh, there is a very interesting someone here and he got away, not sure what his motives though or will he get to tell his story too one day? I don't know...

4.5 Stars... The end is nearing and the ultimate war has been waged; Shanti and Cayan must face their enemy and end the strife... When Shanti is captured, she must depend on those she loves to fight and survive... The Honor Guard is put to the ultimate test and must use their skills, wit, and courage to confront the enemy in their territory to save their S'am... Of course, fear, bumbling about, and sarcastic humor seem to prevail, but it is what is in the heart that counts, right?? Cayan and Sanders lead their diverse army into war, trusting one another and working together certainly has it's learning curve, but a life of freedom is at stake and nothing will stop these brave warriors... Shanti is certainly not the ideal prisoner with her wit and keen sense of doing the exact opposite of what is safe and smart; her ability to annoy the enemy is a beautiful character flaw... In the end, these elements align perfectly and culminate into the ultimate force for good in their world... An explosive ending with much intrigue, action, and humor that is par for the course when it comes to this series... I absolutely loved it and will miss these characters very much!:)

Just wanted to inform that the author has a free bonus epilogue on her website which is well worth reading... a perfect ending for these complex characters:)

Overtaken is as action packed and fun as its predecessor and somehow imop it's the funniest. The Honor Guards were at their best and I really have quite a laugh through and through. Shanti was...Shanti, she is officially my favorite heroine. Xandre's role was a little too lenient and the battle was not as tough as I'd like (C'mon it's the finale) but every characters were animated and just be themselves and fun. The only downside is that it's too short but still I'm glad K.F Breene didn't try to drag the series on and just leave it as it is. Love it!

The awesomest heroes in the land

I have no words to describe this amazing book and series. No words. I absolutely loved this, one of my very favourites.

I am sad it ended but I am also so very happy I found this.

This non-review will end with me telling you to read this series, it is freaking amazing! Go, read it!

P.S: This is my first book for 2017. I hope the year will go as awesome as these characters!

Xandre retaliates after Shanti's success and sends his inner circle to kidnap her. Xandre and Shanti finally meet face to face as Cayan and the armies converge on their location.

I had to ignore the whole kidnapping thing at first, because if this was an option, it makes you wonder why Xandre didn't do it earlier and put an end to all this, right?? Regardless, Shanti's time in captivity does serve the purpose of allowing us to understand Xandre a little better, or at least parts of him, first hand. I was expecting a misogynistic bastard of a man, but he actually came across as simply a power-hungry guy so caught up in his own "gift" to lose. I actually thought some of my hatred of his character might have been too intense. I don't pity him. He wasn't a nice guy and I'm glad that Shanti got her revenge and her HEA.

This series was fun, often funny too. As I've said before, I admired Shanti's character and shipped her and Cayan. Their story was compelling and kept me up most of the night in my quest to finish the series. Who needs sleep when you know a few hundred pages will complete a story? Now what will I read?

OH MY GOD!! This literally had to have been one of the best series I have ever read, if not THE BEST! The book just kept getting better and better as the series went on. I loved every single character in this book. Sanders constantly had me crying laughing with his ways. He just blurts out everything I normally just think of and never say out loud. He was amazing. And don't get me started on the fact that EVERY female was badass and could handle themselves. There were no damsels in distress. Quite opposite really. The WOMEN did most of the work. The men just helped a little lol. Shanti' journey was a tough one but she was the strongest character I have ever read about. This author is seriously talented to have written a story like this. Best thing was that this whole series is on kindle unlimited! I really need to stop putting books off because every time I do they turnout to blow me away just like this one did, although I don't think any others will be this good tbh.

Read other books by this author in the future: yes
MCs: Shanti & Cayan

MCs: Shanti & Cayan

I am writing just one review for the whole series and you will finde the same review in all six books!

The warrior chronicles is a great series, which includes the books Chosen, Hunted, Shadow Lands, Invasion, Siege and Overtaken.

The whole series reminded me a lot of older fantasy series where you have a world building, people with different gifts and humans, some beasts and basically the war good against bad. And I would place Worrier Chronicles with series like Belgariad (David Eddings), the Darkover series (Marion Zimmer Bradley), The Riftwar Cycle (Raymond Feist).

Shanti, the FMC, is a strong heroine with some self doubt but a strong loyalty for her people and knowing and accepting her duty. Cayan, the MMC, who is kind of a king in a city that is faring very well, is also a strong hero. Both are well matched.

And there are a lot of side characters, which we grow to love, like Rohan, who is Shantis protector and brother, Sanders (a higher ranking soldier in Cayans army), the boys who grow into men of her honour guard and several more.

I actually binged the first four and a half books but then I realised that if I binge the last 1.5 books left then I will have to leave this characters and this world behind and only a reread will bring me back there. And I felt very reluctant to leave it behind, so I started to read only little bits to prolong my stay with Shanti and Cayan and the other. In the end I decided that I have to take the pill and binge it to the end.

Breene is a great author and I really love the series. And I would truly recommend it to fans of above mentions authors.

This was a satisfying conclusion. I wish Xavier had a different name tho bc it sounded too close to Xandre (the bad guy) and I kept getting confused. I liked One and for some reason could not stop picturing him as Long Feng from Avatar The Last Airbender who had rly skeevy, not hot at all vibes so consider me shocked that I liked him and Shanti's weird lil connection. I'm gonna miss Sanders and the honor guard most of all tho.

She grimaced and thought very hard about punching Sanders.
"Don't do it," Sanders growled. "I can see you thinking about it. Don't do it."

"He'll be okay," Marc said, shadowing her. "It was a deep cut, but nothing fell out or anything."

The side characters rly carried this series. My final thought is I can't believe Rohnan met his power's mate in book 3 and then it was literally never spoken about again. I was more interested in that possible romance than the main one!

A satisfying wrap-up to the series! The action came in strong, the emotional payoff was there, and the main character really came full circle in a way that worked. The romance finally hit that sweet spot, and the found-family vibes were at their best here. A few plot points felt a little too neatly tied up, but overall it delivered on what it promised. Definitely a strong finish and worth sticking with the series to get here.

So I read this book from like 2 AM to 5 AM despite being so tired I NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
... so mayyybe I should give this 5 stars ...

There was a bit of TSTL - what with the city etc like ... each time they think they're safe/don't consider everything SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAPPENS - granted they've been through FIVE BOOKS already of constant stress and little rest so ... there is that.

the "supreme being" Xandre - really interesting there
I loved how the villain - it all made sense then.

This was a fun end to the series. I enjoyed seeing how the fight between Xandre and Shanti played out. I think it could have been fleshed out a little better, but also, the story was to an end, so I also understand how it all worked out.

Spoilers possibly ahead?

I wish the inkana could have done more with Shanti and her people? Or some more discord within the graygaul could have happened? Also, what happened to the women and young people that were in the brainwashing stage? Did they get saved/helped??

I also wish that some of the other characters could have found some partners in the epilogue. Like Xavier and Alexis? Marc and ruisa? The guy from shanti’s people and Alena that had a moment in the last book? Sorry, it’s late and my brain isn’t remembering all the names!

I liked this series, but I did seriously start losing interest along the way. I think four books would have been perfect. They got very repetitive, and the conversation ceased filling a purpose a while back. There’s too many characters and they all sort of started blending in together.
Everything you’d expect pretty much happens in here, though we meet our villain and he is not as it seemed. The giant fight scene was… a little easy? After all of the previous battles I really expected this hard, impossible slog.
There’s a bonus epilogue with their HEA, and I liked that it included a 'We beat the bad guy, now what?’ section.

hm

I really enjoyed this series and this book. However once again this particular book like the last had a lot of confusing action. It was hard to follow what the characters were doing at times when the action was suppose to be moving fast. Also some of the convos at the end between shanti and cayan - do you want to try for a baby - felt a bit unnatural. Anyways it was an alright story.

This book was a very disappointing end to a fantastic series. After an extremely detailed build up, Breene finishes her book in a whirlwind way with a lot of convenience. Once we finally got to see who Xandre was, I was pretty disappointed. We’d been hearing about him for five books and then he turns out to be a somewhat average villain. For someone who was so cunning, I didn’t find him particularly clever or intimidating.

Additionally the “challenges” and Shanti and Cayan have to face are not nearly as serious as all the others they had up to that point. Somehow I found the book lacked urgency and came across a bit lackluster. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to find out how Breene envisioned the finale, but I didn’t find it nearly as captivating as her previous books in the series.

Warning: Contains repeated violence and sexual content.

Who should read it? Folks who just want to find out how the series wraps up.
