Quick on the Draw

Glenister McCreedie was never a lucky man. Imprisoned for a crime he never committed, deserted by the woman he loved and betrayed by his own family. His bad luck seems to be running out when he is released early from prison and finds a job on the railroads. But it doesn’t last long. First he gets into a fight with a man who turns up dead. Then, while still on the run, his train is held up by his own brother’s gang. Then he somehow manages to offend the railroad boss’ daughter, the beautiful Elizabeth. With the fates out to get him, Glen has to use all his wits and strength to take control of his own destiny. Will that be enough to see him through, or will his past catch up with him before he gets a chance? Quick on the Draw is a hard fighting story of the Old West, where lives were cheap and danger was great. Gordon Landsborough (1913-1984) was a publisher, author and bookseller. Writing tales about the exploits of gun-toting cowboys fighting out on the arid sands of the Wild West, Landsborough was himself a pioneering in the English paperback publishing world of the 1950s. He was widely known amongst his peers as the ‘maverick publishing genius’. Pioneering Press is an imprint of Endeavour Press, the UK’s leading independent digital publisher. This is my third Gordon Landsborough book, and I have certainly become a fan. He has that amazing ability to entertain and write the most wonderful stories. Glenister McCreedie has been locked away in prison for the past 3 years for a crime he didn’t commit. You would think he would be pretty angry receiving a 10 year sentence after being doubled crossed by his brother’s girlfriend. She dressed Roy up in Glen’s clothes when he robbed a Bank, and Glen went down for the crime. The Warden of the jail thinks Glen is the most dangerous man he has ever come across, but respects him because of his good behaviour and assistance and risking his own life. Hence his is paroled early. Of course his first priority will be to make some money, as he only has $17 to his name. Winning $1260 in a card game certainly helps, and he receives some good advise to get on the train and head out to where the Railway line is being built, if he is looking for work. Glen manages to stop the bandits from stealing his money and the other passenger’s valuables when they try to hold up the train. Not bad for someone who is un-armed. Then he manages to stop a stallion from trampling a little girl to death. Theodore Broomfield the Railway boss hears about Glen and how capable his is. So he wants him to work for him as a beef chaser. Theodore needs Glen to find out why he can’t keep men working for him for very long, and he needs to make sure the cattle get through as the men need meat to eat. He couldn’t have asked for a better man to work for him, as Glen is sure to find out what’s going on and put a stop to it. This book really is full of great characters, and a story that I certainly enjoyed. Thoroughly deserving of the 5 stars.

Quick on the Drawd GorDon Landsborough

Meet Glen McCreeie, a brother sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit, but his younger brother, Roy did. Convicted, sentenced to ten years, suddenly becomes eligible for parole, set free to return to civilisation, but stripped of the right to carry a gun unless he leaves the state. Thru some strange circumstances, Glen starts a new life, makes good of himself until he's faced with his brother's old gang. The ends he goes to to keep his freedom will tear your heart out. But in the end, Glen wins out when he's forced to kill his brother to save the love of his new life. The action will keep you lined to the pages as Landsborough the story life. Thanks for another great read

Glen McCreedie is framed for a crime he had no part in. He is released early, on probation, with the stipulation he not carry a gun in the state of Utah. The problem is, he is a range rider where having a gun can mean life or death. He takes a job with the railroad which will take him out of state. He doesn't like the looks of things so he takes a different train to the construction site. Glen quickly foils a robbery attempt and is promptly offered a job rounding up beef. Through a series of interesting events, he shows is worth to those around him. Good things happen when McCreedie is around. All is not peaches and cream. It was his brother's gang that held up the train and they are still around. Very interesting reading!

Let me emphasize.....MY KIND OF WESTERN.

Written for other westerners, like me: One foot in today and the other in yesterday. Knowing or hearts will always be most alive in the yesterday's of the West.

Ride easy with peace in your souls for the ones who literally... won the West.
Adios,
Just another west Texan at heart.

The dialogue is authentic and the action imagery is so detailed. Felt as though I was there in the middle of the fight. Fun read and perfect for fans of the real Wild West.

Good read

A little difficult because it was written in the vernacular, but a good story. Plenty of action and adventure. A regular horse opera.
