Well, this is the show I'm directing for PLAY Conservatory's Summer Stock 2014 Orphan Summer. I chose it, so, I guess I better like it. I do, it's simple, it's going to be meta-theatrical (my favorite style), it has a book written by second-wave Asian-American playwright David Henry Hwang and music and lyrics by international superstar Phil Collins, who I loved in the 80s and 90s in Genesis, the female character is not a princess, and the male character has to surmount challenges to prove his worth...so...it has all the elements I like in a play. I also love the character of Kala, the mother, she's strong, and makes a bad situation better. In addition, it has some silly Disney-like stereotypical characters like the doddering father character and a misanthropic evil male character. I also think it will be inspired with young performers because it was really written, initially, for them, i.e. the Disney film. I'm excited to play with aerial work in this production (a new venture for me, even though I'm playing with it in PIPPIN, right now), TARZAN will be on a much bigger scale. So...if you're in Albuquerque, look for it in August 2014.
