Finding Heaven in the Dark

Rate this book
As a black youth of the post war baby boom generation the author struggled with secret rage and a confused life view that fueled his self-destructive rebellion and desertion from the Marine Corps in 1967. His cross country trek ended in a skid row rescue mission in Los Angeles, Ca. There the 17-year-old fugitive was forced to confront his personal demons.

Mr. Ingram’s odyssey of rebellion and redemption led to his discovery of life saving and life affirming principals. His introduction to the Primitive Christian practice of Meditation, taught by a Los Angeles preacher and his foundation, began his journey of self-discovery and awakening.

The answers to the mysteries of life were never more needed than during our present age of loud and competing voices that pressure and control us. This book is for anyone interested in clues to the true purpose of life. Is there a real moral compass? What is your true Identity? It’s for church goers and the unchurched, all religious believers, spiritual seekers, and skeptics.

At first it was hard to tell where he was going with this -- and would have been easy just to put it down. But a bit in, it became a family history -- and I always like those. Then it became his own personal struggle with life -- and that was very interesting and incisive. By the end of this much too long tale, I was wanting more. Did he every publish his song? How and when did he get into writing? Get the point -- I liked it.

This is truly one of the best redemption stories I have ever read. I laughed and cried with William throughout the story.

A young man never a child?

Couldn't put this one down. The author is a strong storyteller. He reveals so many of mans concerns while growing. He also plainly writes words to understand much of those challenges. This is a man I view to be of great courage and wisdom culled from his experiences. I'm grateful for the read.

Extremely well written

A wonderful story. Mr. Ingram was very brave to return to the Marines and confess his AWOL status. He proved that integrity is the best policy. I fully expect to meet him in Heaven.

I read it as objectively as possible because I was the author, but that being said I was very pleased with how it read. My wife Susan, was very impressed with my story. Since we were both widowed before we became neighbors and then newlyweds, she had no idea of what my memoir was about. I loved her questions and enthusiasm at the memory of events that we as "baby-boomers" shared as recounted in the book.
I hope future readers will love the backdrop of the late 1960's as well.
Finding Heaven In The Dark was the title I settled on because it joined the 2 parts of my story: Dark Journey and Bright Passage. It was very important for me to share the shameful parts of my life and then reveal the life altering introduction to a God and Christ that are accessible through our Heaven within. For that reason alone I am grateful for the opportunity to share my odyssey to Faith.

Work in Progress

William touched my spirit with his openness and vulnerability. I look at mediation in a new way. This young man is on a continuous quest for truth I am blessed he shared his journey of forgiveness healing and change through a personal relationship with our Savior.

Insightful

I enjoyed this insightful book that takes the reader on a journey through the eyes of a black man who came of age during the late sixties during a time of social unrest and racial injustices. The journey is a painful one that digs deep into the conscience of the reader. Great boo.

Captivant

J'ai adoré lire ce livre. Je voulais savoir plus sur chaque épisode de la vie de l'auteur. J'apprécie ces combats et sa franchise à need rien cacher de son histoire. Jesus recommande cet ouvrage à tout un chacun. It is worth reading !

Again not one of my typical reads, but very interesting testament to one's own salvation into a graciously changed life! More of ten than no, we will change, eventually, and not always for the better. Brother Bill made his change through the love of God and then accepted his fate to be judged by man (the Corps) and serve his sentence with pride. An interesting read and a great testament to change!

I really enjoyed reading the book from cover to cover. I must say that I know the author but the person described in the book is very different from the man he has become. I recommend it for anyone interested in serious subject matter. It is a good read!
