Great character! I gave up on the original book that this is a companion to and read this one first. It was the only way I could stomach the horrible heroine! Reading it from Carlos eye's helped give me a reason to finish. His quiet strength is sigh-worthy and his secrets enough to keep me checking the lists to see when the final book in the series will publish!

*minor spoilers from books 1-5 of the Judgement of the Six & Companion series may be present in this review.

“The things you fight for are the most worthwhile.”

Carlos’ Peace is another fantastic addition to the companion novels of the Judgement of the Six series by Melissa Haag. I will admit that when I read (Dis)content, I wasn’t much of a Carlos fan. He was quiet, brooding, and a bit macho at times. As a reader, you literally have no idea what is going through his head, because he never expressed much. All you knew was that he was carrying some serious baggage from his past that made him this way. I was intrigued by him none the less. Therefore, having the chance to read this story from his point of view was enthralling. There is so much we don’t know about Carlos before this book, and we are finally able to add some more pieces to this Judgement puzzle.

As with most alternate POV novels, there is some repetitiveness, but Carlos brings a whole new perspective to himself. We learn so much about him, but is it weird that I still wanted more! We get in depth insight to why he is so closed off, what happened to his family, and how he started on the path of becoming an elder. When he is helping search for the missing Judgements he discovers one to be his mate. In a true twist of fate he must now learn how to let someone inside the walls he has built to keep every emotion out, but his wall does help him realize he is the perfect match for Isabelle, who is an empath that steals emotions from anyone around her. Not only that, but Carlos is a big, beefy wolf, and although he is quiet-he is mighty, which means he is perfect for sparring with Isabelle, whom needs to burn off the energy that she has consumed. It is almost like they are perfect for each other.

I have changed my mind and I am now firmly in the Carlos camp! I am still a little weirded out by his overbearing nature, but I think that is just my personal preference. It was hard to relive some of this book, as there is a lot of emotions, and a lot of plot furthering, but I am still extremely excited over coming closer to the end game. There is also an epilogue in this book that gives you insight into a certain beloved and important side character that you would be missing out on if you don’t read this book!

The Judgement of the Six series needs to be read in order, but you can immediately read the companion novels afterward each book. These companion novels can hold their own, but if you have only read the main series, I can’t recommend them enough. This series is some of the most fun and unique YA werewolf stories I have ever read, and I definitely highly recommend! The next book (Sur)real, will be the final installment in the Judgement of the Six series, and there will not be another companion novel, as the final book will be written in dual POV instead. I am so excited to finally figure out more about our final Judgement, as well as to see the Urbat get whats coming to them (I can only hope!). If you like action, mystery, and paranormal romance, this series is for you!

Favorite Quote:

She glanced at the boy, who was still sitting on the ground and rubbing his throat. I stood as he gave her a thumbs-up. She gave me a flat look when she turned back to me. “If he has more bruises from that, I’m coming after you.” I hoped he had bruises.

Originally I was not looking forward to reading this book because Carlos is my least favorite of the companions. But I figured I would try my best to give it a shot and not let my head get in the way ya know?

Turns out, this is one of my favorite companion novels to date. While there are some moments I chose to overlook,(for instance, Carlos inability to let her grieve and all the pressure he put on her to bite him) on the whole it was excellent. I enjoyed the way he tried to be patient with Isabelle and Ethan’s closeness. I really loved Ethan and totally cried at his end in the book. Honestly I wanted Isabelle and Ethan to give it a go but knew it wouldn’t jive with the plot line. But as Carlos and Isabelle’s relationship evolved, I could see a future for them. They took a bit of a different route to get where they needed to go (IE; they did a lot of talking and sparring) but the destination was the same as the previous books.

Also, WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THE TWIN THING!!! I was pretty pissed that they threw in that little piece of fluff. I mean, what was the point of that? I’ll tell you, not a damn thing. Take it out and it doesn’t change the story in the slightest. I never understand why authors do this. Unless they are just trying to piss off their readers. Cause that’s the only thing it does for me.

But I let that go after a slight yell at the kindle. All in all it was a great story and I’m racking my brain trying to find out who is the last Judgment’s companion?

Any guesses?

Carlos’ is arguably one of the most mysterious of all the companions in this series. We know almost nothing about him, and he didn’t appear until later on in the series. So getting to go inside his brain for once to figure out where he fits in with the entire Judgements Plan was eating at me until I finally got my hands on this book! Paired with the fact that he is the Mate of my favourite Judgement thus far, Isabelle, makes this by far my favourite companion book yet.

As always, Melissa’s writing was impeccable! If you haven’t read anything by her before, than you are lacking in your literal life. She has this amazing ability to add detail into her books that seem insignificant until you read the next book, or the companion book and see that that minor detail mentioned before is actually much more significant than you thought it would be. In fact, until you read it again through different eyes you had completely forgotten those pesky little details even existed until they rear their roaring heads. In short, Melissa Haag is a plot genius, her writing flowing effortlessly and sucking you into the story she has weaved, take my word on that.

Learning about Carlos, and his take of the events that take place in (Dis)content was amazing. Learning why Isabelle couldn’t pull from him, and the enormous weight on his shoulders made you love him even more than you did reading him from Isabelle’s eyes. You do learn a MAJOR detail about him and his family that was completely left out of any of the other books, and the outcome of that detail had me shaking a mental fist at Melissa, but without giving too much away you learn one of the reasons why Carlos’ acts the way he does. And it’s a biggy!

Perhaps the most loved character in the entire series, Ethan, makes a reappearance since it is a retelling of events we already know. We knew he was amazing from Isabelle, and we loved him because Isabelle loved him, but we also learn the extent of how amazing he really is after seeing his interactions with Carlos and learn of the sacrifices that he is willing to make for his best friend (/ love of his life’s) happiness. Ethan is up there with Jim on characters that make this series as amazing as it is.

And speaking of Jim, oh boy. Stay tuned for that Epilogue because it’s a doosy!!
Overall, this was an easy 5 stars. I highly recommend that you pick up Carlos’ Treasure ASAP because not only was it an amazing book, but the next and last book of the series, (Sur)real, is coming up quick and you don’t want to miss important details from this book before you reach the conclusion of this wonderful saga!

so, this is hands down one of my top 5 series ever. good gravy, I freaking love it.

in saying that, Carlos is probably my least favorite of the guys. but going in, I expected to gain some incite into the mind of this stoic wolf for sure. and I did. I had zero clue what was going on inside of his mind. it was cool to see how Isabelle affected him too.

but still, all of that, though interesting, and entertaining, this story still isn't my favorite in the series based on the characters alone. but I really adore the overall world so much though, that it really doesn't matter to me in the SLIGHTEST.

what has ABSOLUTELY SLEIGHED me though, was the FREAKING epilogue!!! someone PLEASE start a dialogue with me about that!! PLEASE!!! I NEED to talk about WHAT THE HECK JUST FREAKING HAPPENED!

NOT what I was expecting, for SURE. I'M STILL HOLDING OUT HOPE. I have to.

I was trying to wait to read this until the final book was released, because I just knew I'd be left hanging, but no, instead I just had to start reading...=/ if you don't love this series as much as I do, I think you need to make some appointments, cause you should have something examined- you may have a serious problem...hehehe. just kidding- more for me that way! (sorry not sorry) but seriously, it doesn't get much better than this!!

Have to say I didn't enjoy this book as much as all the previous ones.
Carlos' attitude was incredibly irritating, and a little bit too caveman for my liking.
Nothing much happened in this book; seeing Isabelle's story from Carlos perspective was pretty dull at times, and didn't really do anything to add to the overall story in my opinion.
The "big twist" was somewhat interesting, but kind of became redundant by the end of the story, so I'm wondering what the point of adding it in was, unless it was an attempt to make Carlos less dull.

The book also had quite a few spelling and punctuation errors, and a few cases of the wrong word being used, which was a bit jarring while reading. I hope the quality of the writing isn't going to suffer because the author is keen to get all these books out as quickly as possible.

Having said that, I am looking forward to Olivia's story, am keen to see what her power is, and who her chosen wolf will be.

Again, it's been so long since I read Isabelle's story that I barely remembered it. That made reading it from Carlos's side almost like seeing the story for the first time again. It kind of bugged me that he never told anyone about his connection to his twin.

4 stars — OK, well, I really had expectations for what I wanted from this book, and while I got a bit of that, it wasn’t enough in my opinion.

Carlos is a VERY mysterious character, and one who makes an impression from the first introduction in Michelle’s book. Grey always hinted at loss and sadness, and his concern always made me curious what happened to make Carlos who he was. And while we get a glimpse into the defining moment in his childhood that seemed to break him, and we find out a secret he’s keeping hidden from EVERYONE I think (though Grey knows a bit on his own, as we learned in Thomas’ book), I just wanted…MORE. This was like all the companion books in that it really didn’t deviate from its companion’s storyline. Which is okay, but…I guess I just didn’t quite get how he was shaped, you know? Why is he so particular? Is it the control he lost in his tragedy? Or what he deals with with the link behind the wall, and it just flooded out into the rest of his life and habits? I guess I needed to be beat over the head with explanations, b/c all I really can do is offer conjecture, and that leaves me so unsatisfied.

I did appreciate learning a bit more from his perspective with how he felt about Isabelle, his pull, the whole chasing thing (though, still a bit weird), the Ethan stuff…but it wasn’t, like, a LOT or anything.

So basically, I enjoyed myself, I was wrapped up in the emotions, and curious beyond belief about his secret, and anticipating… And then the ending happened. And I was like wait, what? That’s it?

All I can say is that the way things played out in this book leaves a HEAVY burden on the last book to answer a LOT of questions. I’m getting a bit worried that my expectations are not going to be met… *sigh* So yeah…

Best Companion Novel yet!!!!

Only Melissa Haag could write a companion book (goes over the same events from another book but in a different pov) and make it so completely different from the original that you dont feel you have even read the same things. I lost myself in this book and i have to admit Isabelle wasnt my favorite but Carlos really became one fast. In the other books it talks about how Carlos had a hard past but it never really talked about it, it also showed him as quiet and reserved but in this book we see so much more of him. Reading Ethans death was hard especially what Carlos went through knowing what Isabelle was going through. I cant even talk about Jim right now but i will be ready to read more when the next book arrives!

Haunted by the past and his twin sister’s abduction after the Urbat killed his parents, Carlos in the fifth thrilling novel in the “Judgement of the Six Companion” series -“Carlos’ Peace” - has kept himself detached from any form of attachment, determined to sacrifice having a mate to become an Elder and protect his race. But Destiny has other plans in-store for Carlos when he sees Isabella for the first time in a staged cage fight. Drawn to the feisty woman who wants to escape the big, broody werewolf whose temper flares when he believes she’s being pounded in the fight, Isabelle escapes draining the emotions of those in her way; that is everyone except Carlos who’s built a defensive wall around his feelings.

After hunting her down and having her fellow “Judgements” explain her importance to their group and the danger she’s in, Carlos is more determined than ever to win his mate, only to discover that she wants him just as a sparring partner because she’s pledged her heart to Ethan, the friend who’s protected her since childhood. As tempers flare and tragedy strikes Carlos must find a way to break through her defenses, to acknowledge the truth she doesn’t want to accept if they are ever going to build a future together.

Set in a world where werewolves exist, and their Elders are committed to protecting their race, keeping their presence a secret for centuries, a violent new race of power-hungry, lustful lycanthrope has emerged that threatens all the races. Only the six Judgements working together can bring balance to the races and the Urbat are determined to find and destroy them. Fast-paced and action-packed the tension escalates with Urbat attacks, Carlos’ gambits to win Isabelle’s affection, and the werewolves decision to reveal their presence to the public. Intense as the violence of the conflicts with the Urbat increase and tragedy strikes the suspense is often broken with the wit and humor of Isabelle's banter as their romance heats up.

Strong and brooding at first Carlos develops into an intelligent, caring and compassionate man who is patient in his determination to win Isabelle’s heart. Haunted by guilt he keeps a barrier around his emotions, never letting anyone in until he meets his mate and must fight for her love and acceptance. A fighter who physically suffers after draining people’s emotions Isabelle is impatient, bossy but honest and straightforward in her speech and actions. Cherishing her best friend Ethan, the amiable, loving and considerate human who’s built a rapport with her over the years Isabelle refuses to acknowledge her attraction to Carlos, keeping him at arms length until events unfold that break down the barriers that keep them apart. It is these characters and others that breathe life into a story you can’t put down until finished.

In an intriguing blend of romance and the paranormal with several interesting twists, “Carlos’ Peace” brings the series closer to the end as the adventure continues.

Carlos' Peace is the fifth book in the Judgement of Six Companion series, it's Isabelle's part of the story but told from Carlos' pov. I really enjoy reading a story from a different (a love interest) pov, I think it adds to the story and gives information that I would never have had otherwise. It's familiar and comforting but a brand new story at the same time.

Reading from the wolves pov is always interesting to me because the werewolves while having a human-side they also have a wolf-side, they can look like us but they have cultural differences. They interpret things differently, the way they think, act and understand is totally different than their human mates.

I love all the books in the Judgement series as well as the companion, it's really easy to connect with the characters and the plot is good. Isabelle is a very interesting character, she is a fighter through and through, she doesn't just go with the flow she thinks about the situation and comes up with a plan of action, plus she kicks some major butt. While Isabelle is wild, Carlos is calm. I've seen Carlos in previous books and I have read Isabelle's story it's interesting to see what goes on behind his big brooding facade. He is holding so much in but then that kinda makes him perfect for Isabelle. Carlos is caring, thoughtful and very patient, Isabelle gives him a hard time in the beginning (as she should have) but he stays calm, steady and tries to understand her.

Carlos' Peace was a good and of course, I loved it as I do with the other books in the series. Melissa revealed stunning new information about Carlos in this one, I mean there wasn't even a hint about this key piece of information. Also just like with the other books, the Epilogue is key, it reveals a scene that I wasn't privy to in Isabelle's story and it has set-up the final book in the series perfectly. I love this series and I can't wait to finally see how it ends, the final book is (Sur)Real.

This book drops a lot of small hints to the problems between the two races of werewolves having existed longer than anyone realized. Grey raised Carlos like a son after he found him alone without his family. We're seeing the extent that the urbat have gone to destroy the werewolves, and as we learn more about the werewolves, the more we also see the effect the Judgements have on all three races—human, werewolf, and urbat.

It was pretty cool to learn what makes Carlos tick. It would have been cool to learn more about his wanting to be an Elder. Before meeting Isabelle, he was training to be an Elder, and it would have been cool to learn more about his motivations for it. It was hinted at, but never outwardly discussed. Nor was Carlos's reaction to discovering he couldn't be an Elder anymore after meeting Isabelle because Elders can't have mates. It was tip-toed around, but it would have been really cool to have a conversation like, "How are you holding up now that you can't be an Elder?" and have him actually talk about it. He never thought he'd find a mate, and then he did, but we never learn how he feels about that, and I think that's a shame.

That being said, there's some other information that was revealed that I hope we dive into further in the last book of the series, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Wow, wow, wow!! What are you doing to me Melissa Haag? The companion novels to the JoS series have been superb, and Carlos' Peace is no exception. It was enlightening and heartbreaking to get inside Carlos' head. I had no idea he was feeling the range of emotions he was. I loved getting to know Carlos, even though it was hard to read at times. Carlos' Peace answered the many questions I had after reading (Dis)content. Sometimes I felt like I was reading a completely new book, which made it very interesting for me. The epilogue, oh the epilogue; I will leave that right there. I am eagerly and nervously waiting for the last book in the JoS series!

This book is the POV from the judgment of the six series from Carlos! We get to see tru Carlos eyes and his challenge to control his love for his mate Isabel. She is Not the kindest to him, in fact every opportunity she gets shes always hurting him physically and verbally but we find out why. Carlos is a sexy wolf! Silent like clay but deadly protective! We see his pain, his love, and his endurance tru the book. As always there are other characters that are worthy for their own book but can't wait for the final SIX book. A war is coming. We have people's lives at stake and not sure if everyone will survive! I sure hope so because is about to get real!!

So many surprises in this book! Carlos' personality and control make so much more sense now. In Isabelle's book, I didn't really like him. But now I understand why he has a place in our group of book boyfriends.

Melissa is wonderful at writing how these men have patience and love, something I didn't even know I liked until I read her books.

The end? The end! Love, love, loved it! Made me tear up. I can't wait for the next book.

Finally, the perspective I've been waiting to read. It was interesting to be in Carlos' head. To see how badly he wanted Isabelle and how much guilt he carried every time something didn't go well when she was around. That boy has A LOT of guilt.
Now the ending has me confused. I thought Jim would be the last mate and for Olivia, but now with what happened maybe not. Or maybe yes and he dies which won't go over well.

So, one thing I don’t get...they can feel each other’s emotions, but not sense secrets? I mean, Charlene keeps a huge secret from Thomas and Carlos keeps a huge secret from Isabelle. Poor Carlos and Sophia, that made me extremely sad. How is he just not going to tell his Mate about her though? Forever, yeah, but this, I’m keeping from everyone? That is weird. Jim is gonna be a fantastic Elder! Wish we had more books to see him in the role.

Love both series, but not a fan of such heartbreak.

I have read this and the sister series that preceded this. I have absolutely loved both and I’m actively searching down more titles by this author because of that. However, this book takes a turn to a much sadder, darker place. I will admit I am the happily ever after kind a girl, and such sadness turns down my enjoyment of the book.

Carlos' Peace (Judgement Of the Six Companion Series Book 5)

The love story of Carlos and Isabelle as told by Carlos. When Carlos was a child his parents were killed by the Urbat and he learn to keep his emotions in check. When he first see Isabelle, he know she is his mate. Isabelle feed on emotions. Will his ability to close off his emotions help him win Isabelle? Great story.

Another awesome companion book! Like the other companion books, it was interesting to learn more from Carlos' perspective, but unlike the other companion books, there wasn't a whole lot of new information, and this one felt more repetitive than the others. I still loved it and am excited to keep reading this series.

Great story!

4 stars because the other books let you get to know their character but Carlos was still closed off to his mate. To the one who should be able to read him better than anyone. He still didn't let her see his true self.
