Ο φάρος στην άκρη του κόσμου
Η αγάπη προς τη θάλασσα και τη ναυσιπλοΐα έκανε τον Ιούλιο Βερν να γράψει τον "Φάρο στην Άκρη του Κόσμου", που έχει πολύ περιπετειώδη δράση με ναυάγια, πειρατές, μυστικές σπηλιές, τρικυμίες και ναυτικούς. Το πιο περίεργο σ' αυτό το ρομάντσο είναι πως, κατ' εξαίρεση απ' όλα τ' άλλα έργα του συγγραφέως, η πλοκή του, απ' την αρχή ως το τέλος, δεν έχει καμιά σχέση με τα "Παράξενα Ταξίδια" που έκαναν διάσημο τον Ιούλιο Βερν! Όλη η συγκλονιστική υπόθεση διαδραματίζεται γύρω από ένα φάρο, που βρίσκεται στο ακρωτήριο Χορν, όπου τερματίζει η νοτιαμερικανική ήπειρος, χωρίζοντας τον Ατλαντικό ωκεανό απ' τον Ειρηνικό. Ο Φάρος αυτός χτίστηκε εκεί απ' την Αργεντινή το 1859, τη χρονιά ακριβώς που λαβαίνει χώρα μια πρωτάκουστη περιπέτεια. Ο "Φάρος στην Άκρη του Κόσμου" κυκλοφόρησε στο γαλλικό πρωτότυπο το 1905, λίγους μήνες ύστερ' απ' το θάνατο του Ιουλίου Βερν, που το είχε υπαγορεύσει στο γιο του Μισέλ, το 1891. Και μάλιστα σε καινούργια γραφομηχανή που είχε αγοραστεί τότε γι' αυτό το σκοπό. Αυτή τη συνεργασία συνέχισαν, πατέρας και γιος, και σ' άλλα μυθιστορήματα, που κυκλοφόρησαν όμως ύστερ' απ' το θάνατο του Ιουλίου Βερν. Υπήρξαν μερικοί αποτυχημένοι συγγραφείς που, από φθόνο ή κακοπιστία, προσπάθησαν κατά καιρούς ν' αμφισβητήσουν την πατρότητα του Ιουλίου Βερν σε ορισμένα απ' αυτά τα "μεταθανάτια" μυθιστορήματα. Μα οι Βερνισταί, με τα ντοκουμέντα που κατείχαν ο Μισέλ Βερν κι ο εκδοτικός οίκος Χετζέλ, απέδειξαν κατηγορηματικά πως η έμπνευση του μεγάλου δημιουργού είχε πάνω σε όλ' αυτά τη σφραγίδα της. Το ρομάντσο αυτό, όπως κι άλλα πολλά του Βερν, έχει γυριστεί σε κινηματογραφική ταινία που γνώρισε μεγάλη επιτυχία.

Jules Verne in Argentina!
Vasquez, Moriz, and Felipe are keepers in San Juan de Salvamento, the southernmost lighthouse at the fringes of civilized world. A beautiful isolated little island, in one of the most inhabited and faraway places of the Earth. The three keepers carrying their daily duties placidly and uneventfully, little do they know the island used to harbor a shipwreck and several pirates very determined to protect their hidden treasures at any cost. And when two of the keepers are killed and the pirates take control of the island, the surviving Vasquez is forced to use all his wits and resourcefulness to try to stay alive, and maybe, maybe impart some rightful justice.
Good old Verne, always finding an exceptionally unique setting for his wondrous storytelling. A decently good pirate story. Moderately short, averagely paced, and standard characters and villains. Not exactly the best or most memorable of his works; in fact, after so much time the only thing I remember is basically a few things here and there and the general idea of the plot. Nothing extremely fantastic or out of this world mind blowing, but still entertaining and enjoyable.
Imagine my surprise when randomly reading a book by Verne I came to realize he had actually written a story none other than here in Argentina. The story is totally fabricated of course, but the lighthouse is very real. Recommendable for Verne aficionados, and specially for argentine ones.

¡Julio Verne en Argentina!
Vasquez, Moriz, y Felipe son guardianes en San Juan de Salvamento, el faro más meridional en los confines del mundo civilizado. Una hermosa y aislada pequeña isla, en uno de los más inhabitados y lejanos lugares de la Tierra. Los tres guardianes realizando sus tareas diarias plácidamente y sin sobresaltos, totalmente ignorantes de que la isla solía albergar un naufragio y varios piratas muy determinados en proteger sus ocultos tesoros a cualquier precio. Y cuando dos de los guardianes son asesinados y los piratas toman control de la isla, el sobreviviente Vasquez se ve forzado a usar toda su astucia y recursos para tratar de mantenerse con vida, y tal vez, tal vez impartir algo de merecida justicia.
El buen viejo Verne, siempre hallando una excepcionalmente única locación para sus maravillosos relatos. Una decentemente buena historia de piratas. Moderadamente corta, de ritmo medio, y personajes y villanos promedio. No exactamente la mejor o más memorable de sus obras; en efecto, después de tanto tiempo lo único que recuerdo es básicamente algunas cosas aquí y allá y la idea general de la trama. Nada extremadamente fantástico o fuera de este mundo que vuela la cabeza, pero sin embargo entretenido y disfrutable.
Imaginen mi sorpresa cuando azarosamente leyendo un libro de Verne me vengo a enterar que de hecho escribió una historia en no otro lugar que Argentina. La historia es totalmente fabricada por supuesto, pero el faro es muy real. Recomendable para el aficionado de Verne, y especialmente para uno argentino.

Una historia entretenida, parcialmente de aventuras, pero definitivamente no de lo mejor del autor (de hecho, es quizá la obra suya que menos me ha gustado hasta ahora). En El faro del fin del mundo —novela póstuma de Jules Verne—, nos encontramos en la isla de los Estados, Tierra del Fuego, básicamente al extremo sur de la Argentina. Tres torreros, quienes serán los encargados de cuidar del faro de la isla, así como de su funcionamiento durante tres meses, no tardarán en descubrir que no son los únicos habitantes en dicho lugar, y es justo ahí cuando el afán por sobrevivir comienza.
Como siempre la narrativa de Verne se disfruta mucho, pasas un rato agradable, aunque aquí sentí que intentó alargar la historia de más, como si no hubiese sabido hacia dónde dirigir la trama, y eso que de por sí es una novela muy corta (tal vez como relato habría quedado mejor). El final sí que me ha gustado, especialmente esos últimos capítulos que no puedes dejar de leer dado que esperas la resolución y conclusión de lo que ha estado ocurriendo, todo bien.
En fin, pienso que lo recomendaría, pero especialmente a quien disfrute de leer las obras del autor. Yo por mi parte lo seguiré leyendo, ya que es de esos autores que nunca falla; me guste mucho o poco la obra en cuestión, siempre termina siendo interesante.

No es de las historias más conocidas de Verne, ni la mejor, pero me resultó bastante entretenida. Es muy corta y se pasa volando, como suele suceder con sus historias al principio es muy técnica. Un montón de descripciones detalladas de la isla, del faro y del Santa Fe (un barco). Durante las primeras páginas nada pasa, solo que nos adecua al entorno para que podamos hacernos una idea mucho más clara del lugar físico.
Luego, ya nos metemos en la trama de la historia. En este caso la existencia de un grupo de piratas en la isla. Nos vamos alternando entre la narración de la travesía de los piratas y todos los planes que hacen para salir de la isla y volver al continente, para pasar a la historia del torrero y cómo este sobrevive bajo hostiles condiciones. Vemos a ambos bandos idear planes para lograr su cometido y luego llevarlos a cabo.
Es entretenida, no le pido mucho más de desarrollo porque es muy corta. La he leído en un rato y cumplió su función de distraerme.
Lo que sí me gustó fue que ocurriera cerca del Cabo de Hornos, por lo que los protagonistas son de América del sur, chilenos y argentinos principalmente. Es tonto, pero siendo un país pequeño, me gusta cuando se nos menciona y más si es un genio como Verne.

JULES VERNE’DEN BİR MACERA ROMANI:
DÜNYANIN UCUNDAKİ FENER

1873 yılından itibaren kitapları aynı anda onlarca dile çevrilen Jules Verne 1905 yılında vefat ettiğinde yayımlanmış birçok kitabının yanında yayımlanmamış taslakları da vardı. Vefatından hemen sonra yine aynı yıl oğlu Michel Verne’in çok az katkısı ile Dünyanın Ucundaki Fener kitabı yayımlanır.
Jules Verne daha çok bilim kurgu türüyle tanınmış olsa da Dünyanın Ucundaki Fener kitabı tamamen macera içerikli bir eserdir. Kimi okuyuculara göre yazarın en sade ve en iyi romanı sayılan bu eser; Amerika’nın en uç noktasında bulunan Estados Adasındaki deniz fenerine Arjantinli üç gemicinin bırakılmasıyla başlar. Adanın yanındaki Horn Burnunda çok fazla deniz kazası olduğu için Arjantin hükümeti buraya bir deniz feneri yaptırmıştır. Vazquez, Moriz ve Felipe adındaki üç denizci üç ay boyunca oradaki deniz fenerinden sorumludur ve bu süre zarfında herkes ile bağlantısı kesilmişlerdir.
Acaba bu uzak bölgede; Verne’in de “Dünyanın Ucu” dediği bölgede kahramanların başlarına neler gelebilir?
Estados Adasında ve çevresinde Şili ve İspanyol kökenli haydutlar, korsanlar bulunmaktadır. Kahramanlarımızın çetin mücadelesi işte bu acımasız ve aynı zamanda sayıca fazla olan insanlarla olur. Hikâyenin temposu da bu karşılaşmadan sonra epey yükselir. İnsanlar bir yandan can derdine düşmüşken bir yandan da görev bilinciyle hareket ederler. Korsanların başında bulunan Kongre adlı lider de zeki, acımasız ve bir o kadar da inatçıdır. O ve ekibi zamanla hem adaya hem de denizde yaşamaya fazlaca uyum sağlamıştır. Kongre, karakter olarak hikâye boyunca hiçbir zaman geri adım atmaz.
Verne kitaplarının çoğunda yaptığı gibi Dünyanın Ucundaki Fener kitabında da adayı coğrafi olarak detaylı şekilde gözler önüne serer. Hangi gemilerin hangi dönemde adaya geldiklerini siyasi ve ekonomik açılardan da anlatır. Denizcilerin neler yediklerinden tutun da adada hangi yiyecekleri bulabileceklerini birer birer sayar. Gün içerisindeki hava değişimlerine de sıklıkla yer verir. Bazen bakarsınız gemicilik terimleri sıralanır.

Ωραίο βιβλίο, γεμάτο ναυτικές περιγραφές, χαρακτηριστικό του Βερν, αλλά το διήγημα «Οι Ναυαγοί του Σύμπαντος» στο τέλος του βιβλίου είναι που αξίζει πραγματικά. Η τελευταία πρότασή του πρέπει να είναι από τις πιο δυνατές της παγκόσμιας λογοτεχνίας. Και πραγματεύεται ένα φοβερό θέμα, πόσες φορές τελικά έχει χαθεί η ανθρωπότητα και έχει ξαναϋπάρξει, πόσες φορές ο άνθρωπος στο άπειρο του χρόνου έχει ανακαλύψει τα ίδια πράγματα από την αρχή και πώς γίνεται όλη αυτή η γνώση να χάνεται κάθε φορά ολοκληρωτικά;

Uc bekcinin bu isi uc aylik zaman dilimlerine bolunmus sekilde devam ettirmesi beklenir. Romanian review: Ce drăguț din partea piraților să vorbească despre planurile lor în detaliu exact când protagonistul nostru îi putea asculta. Și Jules Verne îi descria ca pe niște ticăloși...
Cartea are aceeași problemă ca ,,Un bilet de loterie" și probabil alte volume de-ale lui Jules Verne pe care le-am citit când eram prea mic ca să văd unele aspecte negative— mă refer la coincidențele fericite mult prea dese (ce am scris mai sus este, practic, o sinteză a cărții).
O altă problemă o reprezintă personajele mult prea puțin complexe și unidimensionale. Personajele pozitive sau negative sunt cam la fel în fiecare carte.
Ce mi-a plăcut pe lângă atmosferă plăcută, specifică cărților lui Verne, este faptul că autorul nu s-a folosit de trucuri ieftine pentru a amâna diverse evenimente. Ele s-au desfășurat într-un ritm natural.
A fost o carte previzibilă, cu o poveste relativ simplă, dar, în același timp, a fost și o lectură relaxantă. Îmi place la Jules Verne că în cărțile lui acțiunea se desfășoară în regiuni variate ale globului— regiuni despre care nu citești prea des. Când o să mai întâlnesc o carte scrisă de un autor străin a cărei poveste se petrece în România (,,Castelul din Carpați")?

The book suffers from the same issue as "A Lottery Ticket" and probably other works by Jules Verne that I read when I was too young to notice certain flaws—namely, an overabundance of conveniently happy coincidences (what I wrote above is essentially a summary of the book).
Another issue is the overly simplistic and one-dimensional characters. Both the positive and negative characters are quite similar across all his books.
What I did enjoy, aside from the pleasant atmosphere typical of Verne's novels, is that the author didn't rely on cheap tricks to delay various events. The events unfolded at a natural pace.
It was a predictable book with a relatively simple story, but at the same time, it was also a relaxing read. One thing I appreciate about Jules Verne is how his books take place in diverse regions of the globe—places you don’t often read about. When will I come across another book written by a foreign author whose story is set in Romania ("The Castle of the Carpathians")?

Written in 1905, Lighthouse at the End of the World is a novel of both survival and revenge. In the 1850s the Argentine navy built a lighthouse at Isla de los Estados, located on the southern tip of South America, near the Magellan Strait that connects the Atlantic and the Pacific. Three lighthouse keepers are left on the island to protect the world's ships in the dangerous and stormy seas surrounding the island. Unknown to them, a gang of pirates is also stranded on the island, lead by an evil man named Kongre. After killing two of the lighthouse keepers, the remaining man named Vasquez is forced to hide alone in the wilderness, hoping the returning ship will come back and save him. During a particularly bad storm the pirates draw in an American ship, killing all on board except the First Officer, John Davis. Vasquez and Davis team up to try to capture the pirates.

A lighthouse has just been built on an island in the South Pacific 9 degrees north (mistake, it's actually 12 degrees north according to a footnote) to help stop shipwrecks as ships sail this ocean. Three weeks after three keepers are left to maintain it of a three month period, two are murdered by pirates who have been stranded on this island for the past three years, drawing ships in to be shipwrecked in order to get more food, etc. The surviving one finds shelter and also learns where they have supplies stashed. A ship manages to be beached with damage that can be mended, giving the pirates a way out. Will they escape before the Santa Fe returns with the alternate crew, or be caught (that ship is fully able to take the one the pirates have.)

Her Jules Verne romanı dünyanın bilmediğiniz bir köşesindeki bilmediğiniz bir coğrafyayla başlar. Bu yüzen bu kitabı okurken benim de ilk işim Estados Adası'nı aramak oldu. Tabi ki kitapları 1800'lerin sonu 1900'lerin başında geçtiği için o dönemin politik koşullarını da öğrenirsiniz. Önce hikayenin geçtiği bölgenin coğrafi özellikleri, dağları ve nehirlerini uzun uzun anlatır. Sonra sıra karakterlerin her birinin geçmişine ve yiğitliklerine kayar. Ama karakterler her zaman yiğit ve sadıktır ki kötü adamlar bile bunu onaylar!
Jules Verne benim için hep üç yıldızdır. Ancak gemicilikle ve coğrafyayla ilgili bilgisine, o dönemki hayalgücüne her zaman hayranım.
Minik bir misafirimizin gelmesine sayılı günler kaldığı için bir türlü uzun kitaplara giremiyorum. Bakalım bir sonraki kitap ne olacak?

Libro póstumo, con el peor villano creado por el autor... peeeeero no me gustó mucho.
La premisa me parece interesante y se presta para crear una buena historia de sobrevivencia, porque vamos! Un torrero, solo en una isla, amenazado por piratas que toman posesión del faro. Qué más se puede querer!? Sin embargo el resultado es un poco plano, soluciones fáciles a los problemas que se le presentan. Una versión alterna de Robinson Crusoe.

Una aventura con todas las de la ley. Fue bastante entretenido.
Pero Verne era demasiado minucioso con las descripciones detalladas, sobre todo las geográficas y, si bien eso habla bien de su instrucción, en una historia tan corta le juega en contra, no llegó a aburrirme pero sí se tornaba denso y reiterativo cada vez que describía la región.

September 26, 2024La historia comienza como cualquier libro de Julio Verne, se prepara la aventura, se presentan un montón de datos, se dan a conocer los personajes y uno no duda en encariñarse con ellos, puesto que de cualquier forma lo va a hacer.
El faro del fin del mundo no es una historia de viajes, o de hechos insólitos. Es una historia que podría no sobresalir demasiado, más que por el gran villano que existe entre sus páginas. Un hombre despiadado, que lo único que quiere es salir de la isla en la que se encuentra prisionero. Es un libro en el que se pone de manifiesto la eterna lucha del bien contra el mal, siempre con la victoria del héroe contra el villano.
Es un libro bueno, que entretiene, que te sumerge en un mundo perdido. En un faro que se encuentra en el final del mundo. Y literalmente lo imaginé así, un faro sobre la punta de una isla, aluzando un camino cercano a un precipicio enorme o junto a una pared negra que demuestra que la tierra no es redonda, que si tiene un final. Una historia enriquecedora que hasta el último minuto la tensión te mantiene pegado a las páginas.

Hat durchaus ein paar Längen, aber es ist I'm Grunde genommen Stirb langsam am Kapp Horn. Das Setting ist eine bisher noch eher unbekannte Region der Welt. Oh und es gibt einen Leuchtturm! Leuchttürme sind immer cool! Und er ist wichtig! Ich habe so viel über die Seefahrt des 19. Jahrhunderts gelernt.

¡Me encantó!
Leí un par de libros de Verne y me gustaron, pero no soy especialmente fan de este tipo de aventuras/ciencia ficción (aunque me parece fascinante lo visionario y adelantado a su época que fue siempre). Sin embargo le tenía muchas ganas a este porque transcurre en Argentina y porque me fascina toda la zona del sur de Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur. Hay algo ahí que siempre me llamó mucho la atención, la sensación de estar casi en otro planeta, la naturaleza, las historias de seres humanos que se arriesgaron por conocer cosas nuevas. ¡Y me re enganché con esta novela! Increíble lo bien que se habla de Argentina. Claro, era comienzos del siglo XX y todavía parecíamos un país respetable.

Aunque en la novela lo describen más o menos así:

Pero también hay uno así, que es el más turístico y que generalmente se asocia con Ushuaia. Porque sí, está bastante cerca de la ciudad (osea, no está en la Isla de los Estados) y se llama Faro Les Éclaireurs.
Así que keep in mind que esta a pesar de todo es una obra de ficción!!!

Creo que debería aceptar de una vez que Julio Verne no es un escritor para mí.
Me encanta "La Vuelta al Mundo en 80 Días" y "Viaje al Centro de la Tierra" está re piola, pero ya leí otros libros del chabón y ninguno le llega a los talones de esas hermosuras.
La posta es que me aburro, mucha descripción, personajes bastante planos y las historias muy mhe.

Το βιβλίο αυτό γράφτηκε λίγο πριν τον θάνατο του μεγάλου γάλλου συγγραφέα και εκδόθηκε αμέσως μετά από τον γιό του. ο οποίος και το επιμελήθηκε. Είναι ένα πραγματικά καταπληκτικό βιβλίο που έχει επισκιαστεί δυστυχώς από τις άλλες διάσημες περιπέτειες που έγραψε ο Βερν. Εδώ βλέπουμε μια πολύ ώριμη και μεστή περιπέτεια επιβίωσης και εκδίκησης που δεν κάνει την συνηθισμένη κοιλιά που κάνουν πολλά έργα του, όταν παραθέτει γεωγραφικές, ζωολογικές, επιστημονικές κλπ γνώσεις.
Αυτήν την φορά ο Βερν παρουσιάζει θαυμάσια την άγρια μοναξιά του νησιού στην άκρη της γης, την απομόνωσή του, τα σκληρά καιρικά φαινόμενα. χωρίς να σταθεί να τα περιγράψει ειδικά, αλλά εντάσσοντάς τα στην ιστορία. Εναλλάσσει σκηνές σαν να εναλλάσσει πλάνα, πότε μιλώντας για τον επιζώντα φαροφύλακα Βασκέθ, πότε για την συμμορία με επικεφαλής τον Κόγκρε και τον Καρκάντ. Χρησιμοποιεί λιγότερο τον διάλογο σε σχέση με άλλα έργα του και δημιουργεί σασπένς. Εισάγει τους χαρακτήρες των πειρατών ρεαλιστικά τονίζοντας πως κακούργοι μεν, αλλά ο στόχος τους είναι απλά να φύγουν μετά από τόσο καιρό που έμειναν στο νησί. Δεν τους ενδιαφέρει ο Βασκέθ. Ενδιαφέρουν όμως αυτοί εκείνον, ο οποίος κινείται και από το ηθικό καθήκον να τιμωρηθούν οι πειρατές και ως πειρατές, όχι μόνο ως φονιάδες των συναδέλφων του.

Simplicity makes this book an enjoyable read. This is not as science fiction as other Jules Verne books but nonetheless it is a fine one.
Things happen as characters intend them to and that's the only downside of this book as it is so predictable.

A marvelously good yarn based upon a real location and lighthouse. I'm very seriously thinking of making a game based off of this. Unreal engine. Accurate mapping of a real world location. Characters. Plot. Fun stuff.

Audiolibro. Lo he escuchado mientras iba sobao en el coche. Sinceramente no me he enterado de mucho. El narrador no me ha convencido, pronunciaba ciertas palabras de forma rara.

Es maravillosa la capacidad de Julio Verne de crear una historia completa, que se desarrolla en un espacio pequeño, inhóspito y en un tiempo reducido. Mantiene al lector completamente interesado de principio a fin y aunque la historia en general es bastante predecible, eso no quita el hecho de querer seguir leyendo para descubrir al fin, como se desarrollan los hechos y cuál es el desenlace del mismo.
Recuerdo haber leído de niño, éste libro, sin embargo es como si lo hubiera leído por primera vez. Tuve la oportunidad de leer la edición original, ahora descubro que hay varias ediciones "más ligeras" digamos, que han sido modificadas para que no sean "tan pesadas" como el original.
Pero yo no lo quitaría ni una sóla palabra a este libro, es magnífico, el amplio conocimiento de los barcos y lo relacionado con el mundo en alta mar es sorprendente y lejos de parecer cansino, es maravilloso verse adentrándose, de mano del autor, de este fascinante mundo, con toda su terminología.
Totalmente recomendado, se lee muy rápidamente y de forma muy amena.
