Raamat „Abandonia. Eestimaa mahajäetud paigad“ tutvustab Eestit ootamatu ja seni vähe tähelepanu pälvinud nurga alt – kunagi inimeste loodud ja seejärel looduse meelevalda jäetud paikade kaudu. Tekstid ja ohter pildimaterjal tutvustavad mahajäetud kalmukohti, linnuse- ja mõisavaremeid, lagunenud koole ja kirikuid, tühjalt seisvaid talusid, tuulikuid ja tuletorne, kaevandusi ja tööstushooneid, militaarehitisi ja uuselamuid – alates Kreenholmi vabrikutest Narvas ja lõpetades asukateta jäänud uuseramutega suurlinnade külje all.
Crisp black and white photography gives small insight of decades which have passed in Estonia. History changes purpose of some buildings and how do wee see it nowadays. Types of buildings are pretty much the same in all Baltic countries but there are a lot of untold stories behind the visible structures. This book can make wonder what will become as long-forgotten ruins in future and what kind of landmarks will stay for a long time. It's impossible to guess. Ruins are a medium between something old and something new, it takes good observation skills to capture it before it's vanished or transformed into something new and different. Pictures before epilogue clearly shows that. As a curious wanderer, some of the photos have "extra colors" because i have been in some of the locations. :) I would probably recommend this book to people who likes urban exploring and history. This book might also be interesting for architects who can try to recreate these lifeless spaces to something new.
