I love this book. I bought it at a local discount store and I just love it! This book is roughly A4 in size and a good thickness – not as thick as art therapy (Creative Colouring for Grown-ups) colouring books, but a bit thicker than Millie Marotta’s books for example. All the pages are crisp white and are printed on both sides. The pages are a good thickness, but thinner than the likes of art therapy book so I really don’t know if felt pens would work here.
I think I’ve fallen in love with celtic designs. Ever since I first tried colouring them in in the Usborne book Celtic Patterns to Colour I’ve just been able to instantly recognise them and I really do love them! The patterns range from quite simple to more detailed and feature pictures of Celtic crosses, knot patterns, illuminations and my favourite section features animals knotted in the funny celtic way where they are holding/eating their own tails in their mouths. None of the these designs are as complex and intricate as those found in Art Therapy, Secret Garden or Animal Kingdom, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to colour in, and sometimes even though I prefer the more intricate colouring books, even I sometimes want something a little simpler!
All the celtic designs seem to be real and I’ve seen bits of them used in other books. I love all the knotwork of celtic design and I love the fact that people and animals don’t quite look real! This book is also great as many pages feature quotes. Written in Gaelic and underneath in English, and I’m amazed at how many of these quotes we even use today, such as ‘Good things come to those who wait’ and ‘out of sight, out of mind’. Each chapter also has some historical information about the Celts and their designs.
I really do love this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves the Celtic designs. I think this book will appeal most to those who have a love of this type of design, but this book is so great that kids will love it every bit as much as adults! A really great book I can really recommend.
