Review for complete series

After the death of her single mum, Toka faces a lonely life in their empty house. However, when she arrives home, a stranger has made himself comfortable and claims to be the new housekeeper hired by Toka's late mother. While she doesn't want to live with a stranger, least of all a bossy one, perhaps it is still better than living alone.

While not inherently bad, this is one of Chiba's weakest works. When it comes to manga, there's often a certain amount of disbelief that needs to be ignored in order to enjoy the story. There are a few common tropes, especially in regards to absent parents or co-living, that just can't easily be pulled off that way in real life. Kyou Kara Mongen 7:00 Desu takes it to another level - it was difficult to enjoy the story when I simply couldn't put aside my disbelief.

Ryu is 25 and it's not entirely out of the ordinary that he might be a ward of sorts to a high schooler. But one would expect some form of official introduction. He just turns up in Toka's house, takes up the role of housekeeper, sets up rules and doesn't even give her his name. Teenager or not, it strikes me as odd that Toka would simply accept this - for all she knows, he could be anyone. He provides no proof of his identity or whether his work or connection to her mother is legitimate. As the story progresses, we do learn that his official job is housekeeping and that Toka's mother did indeed hire him. But why on earth did no one feel the need to explain this properly to Toka?

I rather liked Toka as a character and I think she was more mature than she gave herself credit for. Her behaviour (minus the fact that she just accepts Ryu's claims) is rational and relatable. Her growing feelings for Ryu are also relatable as the two get to know each other, but I never quite felt much coming from Ryu's side. All in all, the characters were cute and the pacing is fine. It's just a shame that the whole thing is built on such a weak premise. The art is adorable, so that's at least one reason to give this short series a try.

It's a no from me🙅🏻‍♀️ the characters are pretty one dimensional and shallow. I shipped her with the other dude obviously. Toka and Ryu is just a big no-go🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️
