I snagged this romantic suspense novel when it was a one-day Kindle freebie (no more, sorry) and gave it a quick read the same night. It's a self-published novel, but a reasonably good read if you're just looking for brain candy, some light entertainment of the heroine-in-grave-danger sort.
Hailey is six months pregnant and on the run, fearing for her life. She hightails it from Seattle back to her home town in New Mexico, where her grandmother, her only living family member, takes her in. It's revealed quite soon that Hailey is a surrogate mom for her best friend in Seattle, a wealthy but kind-hearted socialite with a husband who's become inattentive (yeah, having a baby is always a good way to fix a troubled marriage) and is involved in some questionable business dealings.
Because of reasons (mostly because we just need a good hunky romantic interest here), Hailey's grandma has a hot guy named Chuck helping her on the farm. Luckily for Hailey, when trouble finds her in New Mexico--which it does very quickly--Chuck also is an ex-Navy SEAL with lots of connections. So off Chuck and Hailey go, on the run from a man who is very determined to find Hailey and his unborn child, for all the wrong reasons.
This book surprised me by being more about the suspense than the romance. It's pretty much instalove for Hailey and Chuck, but circumstances will keep them apart for most of the book while Hailey bravely deals with the dangerous situation she's in, and Chuck works madly behind the scenes to get her out of danger. So the romance was pretty superficial, and I would have liked some additional depth in the characters and the plot, but there's some decent intrigue going on here, involving murder, mafia and all sorts of criminal doings.
I found this book when I signed up for Kindle Unlimited and wasn't sure about it. I had never heard of the author but the description sounded interesting. I had also downloaded a few other books as "back-up" options in case it sucked. Haha! I ended up loving it! Now I'm a huge fan of this author and nixed my back-up options in favor of purchasing Ashley Gallegos' other work even though it's not part of the Kindle Unlimited program. I really felt like I was part of the book and there was enough twists and surprises to keep me interested. The ending was fantastic and made me want to read it all over again!
Ashley Gallegos is a new author to me, but I will definitely be reading more of her books. This is one of the best books I have read in a while. I completely enjoyed it, and was sucked in from the very first page. The storyline is believable and not over done, the characters are the same way...even the villain is villain-ish without being too over the top villain-ish... if that makes sense haha! Honestly it is an absolutely fantastic read! I love it! Read it!
I am obsessed with all things Ashley Gallegos. That's why I was even more thrilled to read the one book I had not yet gotten my hands on in my Indie Book Connect box AND get it signed!!! It sure didn't disappoint. Hailey is on the run while pregnant and comes together with unlikely ally Chuck, an ex-Navy SEAL, to try to keep her unborn child safe. Or is it HER unborn child? Surrogacy is not something I personally think of when I read about a pregnant girl on the run. That's just a small taste of the twists and turns that this book throws your way in Last Chance Baby. Is Hollywood paying attention? This NEEDS to be a movie!!!
Oh. My. Goodness. I feel like I'm waiting for that moment still where I re-acclimate from the book world to the real world. This book had me up all night reading, feeling like I was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next. I cheered for Hailey and Chuck and was afraid of Dalton. I wanted to be best friends with Maggie. And I LOVED that the author has a Pinterest board for every book. I think all authors should totally do this! It was one more way for me to be totally immersed in the book. It was really refreshing to find a book where I couldn't guess the ending for once because the predictability factor was gone. I'm definitely going to be checking out the other works by this author!
I've never heard of this author before picking up this book. I was either going to be kicking myself for wasting my time or happy that I gave it a try. Needless to say, I am happy. The novel had some twists and turns. It had a decent plot and a great HEA. All together I was impressed! I'll be looking out for this author and her works in the future.
I read the first edition of this book and it was a treat to get the latest version autographed in my Indie Book Connect box. This author is amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if she completely blows up in the next few years! Last Chance Baby is one of my all-time favorite books. It has all of my favorite elements in a book: a great ending, wonderful unexpected turns, really dynamic interactions between all of the characters (including the villain), and a masterful plot.
Hailey is on the run while pregnant and everyone has questions about why and who the father is. Hailey is purposefully quiet on all fronts and willing to let people believe whatever they need to as long as it allows her to keep the unborn child safe. But ex-Navy SEAL Chuck is trained to see between the half-answers and forces her to be honest with him. When tragedy strikes, they become allies and more through all of the trials and hoops they have to jump through to try to keep the baby and Hailey safe.
This is a six star read if there ever was one! You need this in your life!
I am going to be really honest (as I always am in reviews). I got this book in a book box, called Indie Connect, and when first reading the blurb and the first few pages I put off finishing because I wasn't sure if it would be a book I would actually enjoy or not. It took me until two days ago to pick it back up and actually read the book and I am really glad I did. This was something that I normally wouldn't have read, or bought.
I have never read anything from the author before but she has a unique writing style that brings the readers emotions... well all over the place.
Would I have bought this book by just its cover or the blurb? Probably not. But I am glad that I did get, and I did read it because it made me feel emotions that I haven't felt while reading in a really long time which is why I am rating this a 4.5 star (I always rate up) rather than a 4 star.
Good, simple read for a lazy couple of hours. A very simple story with a little bit of instant love but that is okay. The story was interesting enough to keep me going to the end.
This was a re-read of one of my favorite books and it's like good wine - it gets better with age. This time I got it in my Indie Book Connect box so it came AUTOGRAPHED!!!! I will never get sick of reading about Hailey's gallant efforts to keep her best friend's baby safe from her evil husband while falling for handsome ex-Navy SEAL Chuck. Ashley Gallegos takes everything that makes romance amazing and takes it two steps further to add in mystery, intrigue, and thrills and chills. If you haven't read this one yet, you're seriously missing out.
Reading this book was like watching one of those Tom Cruise's movies. It is fast-paced, has a lot of action and a lot of love in it, etc. It has everything a girl could possibly want - a lot of drama - Hailey, a sexy naval SEAL - Chuck, a beautiful and tempting villain - Cris, etc., and one pure friendship that will conquer everything - Maggie. What more could I want in a book? I finished reading it in not more than two days. It made me daydream about a life like Hailey’s. It made me want to be in her shoes. I would not tell you more, you would have to read the book for yourself. The one thing that I will do tell you though is that this book is worth it.
A classic romance story with a completely different plot. The only reason it took two days to read is because I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Although the ending was fairly obvious, there were several plot twists that kept me anxious for how the ending would play out. I recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic mysteries. I received this book from goodreads for free.
This was my introduction to the work of Ashley Gallegos and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The end lacked just a little but only because I would have liked to have gotten a glimpse of Chuck and Hailey with their little girl just to make it feel totally complete.
When Hailey became friends with Erin Dalton, we doubt that she ever imagined their friendship would turn out with her as a surrogate for her recently deceased friend and on the run for her life while trying to protect her friend's unborn baby. When tragedy follows her along her pursuit of safety, she finds herself having to trust ex-Navy SEAL Chuck, who holds a few secrets of his own. This book was full of fast paced action and sweet romance. Five stars for sure!
