Ricordate la storia bellissima di crescita e di speranza che ci ha letteralmente conquistate? Ebbene, i nostri ragazzi sono tornati con una novella dedicata al loro primo Natale insieme e vi scalderanno il cuore facendovi innamorare di loro ancora di più. È stata una sensazione bella e confortante dopo appena due pagine sentirsi come tornare a casa, riassaporare la familiarità della vita di coppia di Troy e Dmitri. Il percorso di Troy per reagire al disturbo post traumatico, i suoi studi universitari con le sue difficoltà, il volontariato e la quotidianità con Dmitri sempre più innamorato e consapevole che il suo futuro è con Troy, che non solo sarà sempre al suo fianco per sostenerlo ma si deve impegnare per essere degno di questo ragazzo sì spezzato ma meraviglioso. Amore, questo è ciò che si respira in ogni pagina di questa novella, amore incondizionato e passionale tra i nostri protagonisti, amore per la famiglia da cui si è stati lontani per troppo tempo, amore verso il prossimo e l'accettazione. Lo stile descrittivo ed accurato ci porta ad assaporare l'atmosfera natalizia del West Virginia, la casa calda e confortevole, le canzoni di Natale, le tradizioni; i dialoghi curati ci fanno sentire ogni sentimento possibile, tutti i personaggi sono delineati alla perfezione nel turbinio dei festeggiamenti, dei dialoghi rivelatori, dell'affetto incondizionato. Meravigliosi Troy e Dmitri, il loro legame e la loro affinità è palpabile, la passione è vibrante anche solo attraverso le battute ironiche e i semplici baci, con un solo sguardo o un semplice tocco l'atmosfera diventa erotica. La bravura dell'autrice è innegabile, in poche pagine racconta non solo una storia d'amore e la sua evoluzione, di un figlio che torna a casa, della paura di rivelarsi e di non essere accettato, delle sue difficoltà e la forza che viene da chi lo ama che sia il suo uomo o il suo cane di assistenza speciale e meraviglioso Sweetie. L'autrice ci racconta di una grande famiglia, delle tradizioni e della fede, dell'omofobia insita in alcuni luoghi e dell'accettazione incondizionata, tutto questo avvolto nel calore magico del Natale…

*** I relished in these guys together and the trip from Colorado to West Virginia for Christmas with Troy's family. * Dimitri, Veterinarian, lives with * Troy, tattooed student and Veteran, who has his PTSD service dog Sweetie. They love their small town, and are doing well. Troy is not "out" to his family, and they travel hoping to have that issue resolved.
The gathering proves to be intense, because half of the family doesn't understand his need for Sweetie. The family feels pretty clueless and locked in denial.
When Troy has a PTSD episode over his stupid brothers bigotry, everyone sees for themselves why Sweetie and Dimitri are there.
Davey needed a good comeuppance, and no doubt he'll get one someday.
Troy's coming out is anticlimactic, but it's finally a discussion long overdue.
We see the true love between Dimitri and Troy, and they are perfect for each other.
Good feels, deep emotions, sexy times, and varied personalities, make this interesting.
It's a heartwarming Christmas for our men after all.
(I did not read the first book about these two guys, INCOMING, but I'm satisfied this is a stand alone.)

YES. This is what I was hoping to get, more story with Dmitri and Troy, and where we meet Troy's family and he decides to come out to them.
Well, turns out it wasn't as big of a deal as Troy worried it would be! Loved Troy's family and was very happy that we got more story with these boys and their adorable dogs!

A newly established couple decides to go home for the holidays together even though one of our protagonists is still in the closet. This book worked so well for me. It takes place in the middle of The Veterans Affairs series, but the author has been savvy enough to give the reader just enough backstory so they feel like they understand what's going on. This is a very quaint and enjoyable holiday story without getting sappy or overly silly.
I think I'll now have to read the entire series - sold!

I liked this. It did get to be a Hallmark-- but it was saved by the fistfight at the Eve dinner table. (I cheered on Troy, who has ptsd and attacked his bro. Davey who really needed one. good. POP.)

This is a novella read. Troy is a veteran and suffering with PTSD and in a relationship with Dimitri. With Christmas fast approaching, Troy has to return home to his large family and not only confess about his illness, but also tell them about Dimitri. As always with these types of gatherings, especially involving family, things never go smoothly.
This was a surprisingly lite, warm and sweet read. This is the second book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. However, I haven't read the first book but feel that it would probably be advisable - there was just too much background story missing about Troy and Dimitri, how they met, Troy's diagnosis and Sweetie, his service dog, there is a good portion of hurt/comfort touched on but not explored as this is most likely already covered in the first book.
Overall, an entertaining read and finishes on a HFN and I now need to go back and read the first book!

Yeah! Finalmente ho potuto apprezzare qualcosa di questa serie...e allo stesso tempo incazzarmi come una iena per tutte le occasioni sprecate nel primo libro! Questa novella è stata dolcissima e dolorosa al punto giusto. La dimostrazione che l'autrice con impegno e attenzione può toccare i punti giusti per poter davvero raccontare qualcosa di più intimo e profondo. Non è una novella troppo particolare nella trama, è parecchio semplice eppure è scritta in modo tale da funzionare e concentrarsi sulle cose importanti fino a quel momento lasciate da parte. Dmitri e Troy sono innamoratissimi e nonostante le difficoltà sono riusciti a trovare una piccola stabilità, vivono insieme e sono sempre più affiatati. Una situazione idilliaca che si scontra con la dura realtà quando Troy è costretto ad accettare, anche se controvoglia, l'invito dei genitori per Natale. Troy da buon soldato super macho ha sempre cercato di nascondere la sua omosessualità, non ha parlato di Dmitri e della loro relazione e ha il timore di poter essere discriminato dalla famiglia, di essere allontanato per sempre. Suo fratello è platealmente omofobo e non sa come la famiglia potrà schierarsi in quella "guerra". Per lui è un salto nel buio ma ha la fortuna di poter condividere quel complicato momento con una persona che non lo tradirà mai, un fidanzato che lo ama, lo rispetta e desidera permettergli di trovare la sua stabilità dopo le brutte esperienze del suo passato. L'incontro con la famiglia di Troy non è rose e fiori, abbiamo modo di metterci nei panni del ragazzo e comprendere il suo turbamento. Abbiamo modo di inserirci in un ambiente molto diverso rispetto a quello di Dmitri e dei suoi affetti. Se i genitori di Dmitri avevano accolto a braccia aperte Troy, quasi come un secondo figlio qui... sarà più complicato. Inizialmente Troy presenterà Dmitri solo come un amico, il migliore amico e solo dopo un po' di tempo sarà costretto a raccontare la verità. Una situazione ovviamente non semplice da entrambe le parti. Mi sono appassionata molto alla storia e l'ho letta in pochissimo tempo, un vero sogno se considero la mia difficoltà e tempistiche nell'affrontare il primo volume della serie, così lento e dispersivo in molti punti. Questa novella è strutturata al meglio per darti quella carica di affetto e dolcezza di cui hai bisogno ma anche quella di realismo e dolore per ricordarti come la vita non sia una semplice favola Disney. Vuole mettere a nudo le contraddizioni e le difficoltà che si possono vivere in determinate situazioni, in determinati contesti sociali e culturali. Ho apprezzato moltissimo l'impegno dell'autrice ma allo stesso tempo mi sono incazzata perché tutto questo poteva già essere nostro PRIMA. Questa novella poteva benissimo essere inserita nella narrazione principale, bastava rimuovere tutti quei punti morti e forzati per dare maggiore dinamismo all'opera principale, si poteva affrontare questa delicata analisi psicologica dei protagonisti PRIMA. Per tutto il tempo quindi nonostante l'amore che ho provato e l'affetto che ho iniziato a sentire per quei due uomini incasinati e innamoratissimi ho continuato a pensare quanto sarebbe stato bello se il primo volume avesse osato di più, se fosse stato più introspettivo e coinvolgente senza ridurre le parti importanti alla seconda parte affrettando tutto per forza di cose. Come storia singola ed extra funziona alla grande e ci apre le porte per un altro libro dell'autrice ""Heartsong" (purtroppo ancora inedito in Italia), la storia che affronterà il dolore e la rinascita di Sean, nipote di Troy. Un giovane che ahimè ha subito sulla pelle il peso dell'omofobia, che è stato discriminato dal suo stesso padre al punto da essere portato in un centro di riconversione per "guarire" dalla sua "malattia", che ha perso una persona cara e ha compreso come spesso in certi paesi bigotti sia impossibile spiccare il volo se "diversi" dalla massa. Questo racconto ovviamente conviene leggerlo dopo aver conosciuto meglio Dmitri e Troy ma vi assicuro che è perfettamente comprensibile anche da chi si avvicina per la prima volta alla serie. Mi è piaciuto e mi sento di promuoverlo e consigliarlo.

Un racconto dolcissimo, che riporta il lettore nella storia di Dmitri e Troy, che mescola le paure e i dubbi alle certezze derivanti dai sentimenti, che mostra il coraggio che l’amore suscita in ogni essere umano.
Troy e Dmitri sembrano aver affrontato tutti i loro problemi, ma una nube scura cala su di loro quando la famiglia del primo lo invita a tornare per le feste di Natale. Nulla di strano, se non fosse che, a casa, nessuno conosce l’orientamento sessuale di Troy e i suoi disturbi dovuti agli anni passati in guerra.
Dmitri si dimostra dolcissimo e pieno di coraggio, evitando qualsiasi tipo di pressione che possa mettere il suo compagno in uno stato di agitazione e paura maggiore di quello in cui già si trova. I due arrivano a un compromesso e, alla fine, si presentano alla famiglia come semplici amici.
È divertente vedere come entrambi sono obbligati a frenare le mani, le bocche o anche solo i pensieri per non suscitare sospetti davanti alla folla di spettatori che si dimostra tutt’altro che ignara.
La dolcezza che i due uomini condividono supera qualsiasi atto o parola che gli altri personaggi compiono agli occhi del lettore. A un certo punto del testo, esistono solo Troy e Dmitri, tutto il resto scompare nonostante sia ancora lì.
Esistono questi due uomini che si scambiano promesse, confidenze, paure e gesti d’amore. Non importa più chi c’è di fronte, chi assiste a una carezza o un bacio, chi può giudicare e offendere, esiste solo la necessità di essere uno accanto all’altro.
Un racconto molto piacevole, ottimo nella sua ambientazione natalizia.
I personaggi sono amabili e reali con tutto l’arcobaleno di sentimenti che prova ognuno di noi.
La scrittura è veloce, fluida, priva di incertezze.

What a great update! Again, would have been a 5* if there was just an editor!!! I love the way this author writes and expresses all the feels in the books, but please, please, please get a decent editor. The reader is going along really loving this book then BAM gets totally pulled out with name or location swapping.

a wonderful heartwarming holiday story whose narrative gifts are tarnished by the errors and mistakes

A Christmas Outing is a wonderful heartwarming holiday story whose narrative gifts are tarnished by the errors and mistakes that are found inside.
Continuity issues, once again, thy name is A Veterans Affairs. The most striking example is Troy’s best friend growing up, Leo. A closeted gay himself, it was his death that pushed Troy out of the closet and onto a new path. Hugely important.
So it would have to be a factor that’s a major aspect of Troy’s life and storylines. You would expect zero variation. Incoming, the first novel, has its version being that Leo was shot to death by a hookup in a gas station because he’s afraid to be seen in a gay bar.
Written as an epilogue to that story but released separately (same time frame), A Christmas Outing: A Veterans Affairs Story has Leo dying as a result of being beaten to death by homophobes.
To use the vernacular, I can’t even.
Troy’s West Virginia large family of Methodists becomes ethnically distinctly Italian Catholic, with some surprising side trips.
There’s so many elements that are mentioned and discussed superficially. A gay conversion camp and therapy, a gay cousin, a rescue, a PSTD episode that’s quickly dealt with, a hidden relationship, a coming out, a service dog and her duties, a gay partner who’s not religious. I’m sure I’m leaving out some. Bigotry.
All at Christmas. So heartwarming.
The fact that the Christmas card decorations and big Italian Catholic families are supposed to make up for the lost depth and glossing over of some of the very tough topics raised is in a manner a surface treatment used by families to make them feel better about themselves and issues they would rather not face.

A Christmas Outing is a wonderful heartwarming holiday story whose narrative gifts are tarnished by the errors and mistakes that are found inside.
Continuity issues, once again, thy name is A Veterans Affairs. The most striking example is Troy’s best friend growing up, Leo. A closeted gay himself, it was his death that pushed Troy out of the closet and onto a new path. Hugely important.
So it would have to be a factor that’s a major aspect of Troy’s life and storylines. You would expect zero variation. Incoming, the first novel, has its version being that Leo was shot to death by a hookup in a gas station because he’s afraid to be seen in a gay bar.
Written as an epilogue to that story but released separately (same time frame), A Christmas Outing: A Veterans Affairs Story has Leo dying as a result of being beaten to death by homophobes.
To use the vernacular, I can’t even.
Troy’s West Virginia large family of Methodists becomes ethnically distinctly Italian Catholic, with some surprising side trips.
There’s so many elements that are mentioned and discussed superficially. A gay conversion camp and therapy, a gay cousin, a rescue, a PSTD episode that’s quickly dealt with, a hidden relationship, a coming out, a service dog and her duties, a gay partner who’s not religious. I’m sure I’m leaving out some. Bigotry.
All at Christmas. So heartwarming.
The fact that the Christmas card decorations and big Italian Catholic families are supposed to make up for the lost depth and glossing over of some of the very tough topics raised is in a manner a surface treatment used by families to make them feel better about themselves and issues they would rather not face.

allora non potete evitare di tuffarvi in questa novella che ci ripropone i nostri due stupendi ragazzi
con le loro piccole gioie raggiunte, da quando vivono insieme, aiutandosi l’uno con l’altro, con la
sofferenza e i tanti dubbi di Troy e con l’amore smisurato di Dmitri per lui.
Li rincontreremo in un’atmosfera natalizia, dovranno decidere quale sarà il modo più appropriato di
presentarsi alla famiglia di Troy e riuscire quindi a dirle la verità sulla sua omosessualità e i suoi
disturbi post traumatici.
ssendo una novella potete immaginare come il testo sia breve, ma vi posso assicurare che è ricca

trasporta all’interno della stessa storia e vi conduce in un piccolo paese della West Virginia dove
tutti sanno di tutti e la neve, il freddo e l’atmosfera natalizia fanno da cornice ad un nuovo inizio.

Yess!!!
I was so happy to see more of Troy and Demitri. I loved this one.
It's time to go home for the holiday's and Troy's mom is expecting him home.
Problem is, as a devout, Italian-catholic, he hasn't come out to his family, yet.
I love the banter between these two and I love that Demitri pulled his head out and
is so in love with Troy. No doubts in this one and I'm glad about that. I hated for them
to be so uncertain, like Demitri might get scared and walk away again. I couldn't handle that;
What I didn't like... was Troy's brother Davey. I really would've liked to have seen someone lay him out, or just take him out completely. The world would be such a better place without all that hatred and hostility. Blah, not a fan. I hope there's another book and it gets addressed more. I hated to see that he just got away with all that hate he was spewing.
Overall though, the coming out wasn't as big of a deal as Troy feared and I loved the rest of his family. I'm really looking forward to reading more about them all. I so wish this one was longer but we got an awesome xmas surprise! <3

This book like its partner highlights real life issues whether it being Gay, PTSD or any other issue.
In this book Troy takes Dmitri home to meet the family although he introduces them as best friends.
We get to meet Troy's bothers and his sister and her son.
We already know that Dmitri's family is accepting of his relationship so how will Troy's family react?
Troy already has a hard time telling his family about his service dog but they are accepting of it. Over the Christmas Eve meal things get heated between one of Troy's brothers, his nephew and Troy it is all over the fact of sexuality. Troy is defending his gay nephew but no one is fully aware of Troy's preference in partner yet, although many may have guessed. Troy ends up having a PTSD episode and his dog comes to the rescue along with Dmitri.
And this is how his sexual preference is broken to his family. Who for the most part are fully supportive.
Would I recommend this book YES

This was a great feel good Christmas story and a beautiful happy tear filled ending.
The guys really run a full gamut of events including a cross country road trip, homophobia from family, coming out to family, catholic Christmas Eve Mass with loving family and eventually confessing their love for each other. A compact time frame for a huge amount of actions and emotions. Add an impossibly sweet service dog and I'm a blubbering mess.
I don't know how I started a series in the middle, but fortunately it didn't seem to matter in my enjoyment. Their relationship felt a little fast but that's obviously due to me not reading the first book. I am now hooked and will immediately read the first in the series.

Meravigliosa novella natalizia che ci apre uno spaccato di vita tra Troy e Dmitri.
Pagine di una tale dolcezza e squisita tenerezza che portano il lettore ad addentrarsi e ad abbracciare i due protagonisti per aiutarli a destreggiarsi su come presentare la situazione di Troy.
Troy affronterà un passo alla volta, prima Sweetie, poi Dmitri e, in seguito saprà essere di supporto a Sean.
La famiglia è tale quando si apre e non allontana nessuno, pur dovendo imparare a convivere con situazioni che non si sa gestire.
Cento pagine che si leggono velocemente e che lasciano un senso di profonda felicità attorniati dal calore che il Natale regala sempre e ovunque.

Home for Christmas but not the same
This was a pretty heavy follow-up to Incoming, not surprising given how the original story didn't pull any punches. Troy and Dimitri go to Troy's home for Christmas to meet the family. Troy has not yet come out to his family and isn't sure he will be able to. But when home for the holidays with the entire family things are revealed about his family, some good and some bad, and it seems that coming out will be the only way to get through, though there may not be family after. It is full of the anxiety of familial love and loss, as well as the need to be open about the person you love. It was heart rending and very well done!

Well done
I rarely read MM love stories but couldn’t resist trailer.
Was wonderful. Loved the story, wasn’t rushed felt the emotions, ups and down.
Especially loved how author took time to share different views of how family, friends felt about Troy coming out info.
I’m a Catholic, I know it is our churches view it is wrong. But love is love. What consenting adults do is no ones business. If they feel it is right, it is not mine or anyone’s else’s business what they have, believe or to make ANY judgements.

I did like this more than book #1, however I needed book 1 to be able to get to know the characters to be able to appreciate their evolution.
This time around Dimitri has warmed up and been much more supportive like I wanted him in book #1.
In this novella, Troy is going home for Christmas to spend time with his family and also making it time he comes out of the closet.
I liked the way this story dealt with their beliefs and having to balance it with love for their son.
It was sweet and I liked seeing these two have their HEA

Una dolcissima novella natalizia
Troy si ritrova ad affrontare il coming out nella sua famiglia. Per Dmitri è stato più facile, come sarà per Troy? Ho rivalutato molto Dmitri in questa novella. E' stato vicino a Troy nel modo giusto e si è comportato bene. Mi è piaciuta molto la nonna di Troy ma tutta la sua famiglia è bella a parte qualche elemento... ma si sa che in ogni famiglia c'è sempre una pecora nera. E vogliamo parlare del finale? ehehe no!!! E' da leggere!. Bello Bello.

Ok, I scanned Troy and Dmitri’s story today because I wanted to get to how Troy came out to his family, as it was alluded to strongly in the V&V book Heartsong. So after scanning that and realizing it was not there, I found this and devoured it.
Just, so much in the feels and I love Nona Jean. I am glad that Troy had a safe-ish response when he finally stepped out…and I still cannot wait for the day when coming out is no longer a source of stress and pin.

This is a quick read holiday story with Troy and Dmitri going home to West Virginia for Christmas with Troy’s family. It is also for Troy to come out to his parents both about his PTSD and being gay.
This is a quick read and it is a sweet and sentimental story about family, love, acceptance, and understanding. Unfortunately it’s also about homophobia, hate, and jealousy.
The message is overwhelmingly positive and the story ends on a high note. An uplifting read.

Not quite what I expected. I have not read the first in the series, but I am guessing this could have been part of book 1.
Troy and Dimitri clearly need each other and I am always in favour of a service man getting a happy ever after. The reality of PTSD and service dogs helping soldiers will always get my support

This was the perfect follow-up to the first story. I loved reading about Dmitri and Troy's first Christmas together. It was not an easy one and there were a few tough decisions, like if Dmitri would accompany Troy to West Virginia and whether or not Troy would actually come out to his family. It was very emotional for a short and I really enjoyed it!

Una bella novella natalizia con i protagonisti di “Sotto Attacco”, un bel regalo per chi ha letto e apprezzato il libro.

I got this book for an honest review. This was my first book, that I have read that had gay characters in it. Wasn't sure if I was going to read it, its different for me. But I did and it out , I enjoyed reading it. The way the story was portrayed was great!

this short story was exactly what I needed! i missed Troy and Dmitri and it was awesome to read some more about them.

I really wish that we got to see more of the family dynamic and that we got more time with our leading men. I think that there is more to the family and more time should be spend with Sean.
