“…What sort of business person would I be if I start killing off my guests?”
Eve Lloyd has settled into her new life in Rock-Maine Island and is about to open up an inn - a costly venture now that she has her heart set on getting an expensive custom made stove. Leasing her new house to a film director takes care of the extravagant expense. It should now be all smooth sailing. However, the director and movie star’s endless arguing gives her a taste of what she might be in for when she opens the doors to the public. What if she gets an inn full of squabbling couples who use arguing as foreplay? But that is the least of her concerns.
When a body turns up… in her kitchen, Eve thinks she might have to forego her new stove and spend her windfall having the house exorcised. Either that, or she could advertise her inn as an ideal retreat for killers on vacation.
It doesn’t help to have left her fingerprints on the murder weapon. Yes, she’s a trained chef and yes, she knows how to use a knife, and yes, she might have said she’d do anything to get her new stove. But surely the police don’t actually believe she’s capable of killing someone…?
Clean read: no graphic violence, sex, or strong language.
Book number 5 in this series, another great story by Sonia. As always the two women find themselves in trouble. And must find a killer and stay alive. On too book 📚 number six💕💕
Desperate to be able to afford her highly expensive "dream stove" for the inn, Eve agrees to rent the Inn exclusively to a film crew for a month before she starts planning the rest of the changes she wants to make.
With the director and leading lady having an emotionally charged relationship which includes screaming rows followed by sex marathons and the crew everywhere mayhem ensues. Eve finds one of her chef's knives out of place on the kitchen floor. Having picked it up she realises that it's covered in blood.. cue the appearance of another body.. and once again it's only her prints on the murder weapon. This time it's the director and he's dead in the pantry.
As the investigation continues Eve and Jill are working on their own theories. So many possibilities.. can they pin down the killer and avoid getting into more trouble themselves? Jack isn't convinced and plants Josh, Jill's police officer boyfriend, into the inn as a handyman to keep an eye on the crew and protect Eve and Jill.
As usual the duo are not that easy to corral and always manage to be in the thick of it.
To help finance some of the more expensive items for her inn, she leases the house she is setting up to a film company.
When the producers body is found in the utility closet of the kitchen with only Eve's fingerprints on it. Eve and Jill have no choice but to investigate.
Pro's: There is a good story line, developed characters, and some humor
Con's: While it was a fun story, and an enjoyable read. There were a couple of items still needing explained when the book finished.
For once I'd like the writer begin a book with something original. I'd just started reading when that "throw the book against the wall" moment arrived.
Why do writers think people always pick up a bloody murder weapon just before a body is found? It's stupid!
Eve's and Jill's creative imaginations continue in this book. Eve's inn still isn't open for business but she has rented it to a film crew to make some extra money for the stove she has been lusting after. The suspect list undulates as usual and the romances continue to grow.
This was an interesting mystery with a movie production company as characters. Money, ego, and celebrity privilege mentality make the murderer and motive hard to discover. It has lots of twists and turns.
This was a a very good read. I had no idea who the killer was. I still didn't know but I finally had a clue toward the end of the book. I thought the killer was someone else.
I am really enjoying these characters. I can't wait to start the next book, as the setting will be a little different. I am dying to see how the author handles the change of scenery.
