I am in love with this series. The characters are well written. and the story line is believable. The main character, Kate, is a recent widow and found out that her husband was having an affair and it wasn't his first. She sold everything including her home because she needed to get away from there. Her husband left her this old house in this little town in the south called Bronga. She goes there with the intent of fixing the house up and putting it up for sale as soon as possible, keep driving on to where she didn't know or care. She begins fixing up the old house to sell as soon as possible, but as she is fixing up this old home she starts to fall in love with it and decides not to sell it. The people in this little town welcome her and she begins to make friends. There are little things that are happening to her in this home that makes her believe that the previous owner's presence is still there in the home. And this is where the story begins...
Kate Meyer has definitely settled in Borna, Missouri and is adjusting to all the challenges of being an innkeeper. Ann Hazelwood is a wonderful writer. This is the third book of her East Perry County series. You really get the chance of knowing all of her characters. The last chapter left a bit of a cliff-hanger, because it left readers speculating about what would happen next.
I am giving this book 5 stars even though the editing is something to be desired. It still was a relaxing, fun, and sometimes suspenseful read that made me want to come back for more. Ready to start book 4.
Maybe if I'd read the previous books, the multitude of folks the main character visits might have been familiar. As a newcomer, I felt as if I'd gone to visit a distant relative and was meeting all her friends I'd never heard of. Nothing much happens. There's a side story about an abused woman trying to hide and a husband drying to find her, but there is no closure or conclusion to that story. I assume it will carry forward into the next book. I'll not be continuing the series, so I'll never know.
OH‼️ This ending was cruel. After reading this third book of a continuing story, which is a very good story, Clark is finally starting to commit to Kate. Kate is still not deeply into the relationship yet. There is so much going on in these chapters and it makes for good reading. There is vandalism and meanness but also some very good friendship and love stories happening. But, excuse me while I hurry to the next book to see what happens with this cliffhanger.
I enjoy this author's stories, but she needs a better editor. There are a lot of issues with incorrectly using someone's name or words run together or questionable grammar. Also at point they refer to someone who has died and later in the story his son says he needs to go see him. How can he do that if he's dead. Just need a bit more fact checking!!
I’m enjoying reading the East Perry County Series I want to see where Kate, Ellie, Ruth Anne, Clark, Trout, Jack, Jill. Carla, Aunt Mandy, and others are up to next.
I enjoyed this book in her series...there are some new characters that are being developed. A word of caution - make sure that book 4 is handy when you finish this one!
It is hard to say that I really like this series even with all it’s mistakes and lack of editing. Kate Meyr and friends have taken me in along with the county I am so familiar with.
As the series progresses, another curious mystery is solved, friendships deepen and relatives come to stay at the historical guest house. Relationships and characters continue to develop.
Book Three in the East Perry County Series. Kate has settled into her life as an innkeeper in the small town of Borna. The fall/winter holidays keep her busy with many activities. Troubling events keep occurring on her property. It appears that both John and Clark are interested in pursuing a relationship with her. As a reader, I love the interaction between the characters in a small town, but I want more than a description of their daily lives. Too predictable!
The plot and characters are great. I love quilts. However, as a retired English teacher, I cringed at all the grammar/usage errors. This book needed a qualified editor.
