Friendship…

Lady Theodora Montgomery departed Miss Emmeline’s School of Education and Decorum for Ladies of Outstanding Quality to attend her first London Season—her three dearest friends by her side. With her sharp wit and skill on the archery field, Theo is far more interested in winning a large purse prize than securing a husband. But when she is unmasked on the tourney grounds, her face exposed to all, she fears her identity and days spent gallivanting around London will cause not only her undoing, but the downfall of her friends as well.

Loyalty…

Mr. Alistair Price, heir to the elderly Viscount Melton, arrived in London with his eight younger siblings in tow. He is charged with keeping his family name above reproach until the Season starts and his sister, Miss Adeline Price, is presented to society—though that proves far more difficult than Alistair ever expected when he discovers his rebellious sister climbing down the side of their townhouse and scurrying off to Whitechapel for an archery tournament. His focus remains on saving his family from the certain ruin and disgrace Adeline’s actions invited—until Alistair catches sight of another female archer, her arrow connecting with far more than the center of her target.

And honor above all…

With Theodora’s future—and that of her friends—in jeopardy, will she agree to a marriage devoid of affection, or risk everything for the man who won her heart?

Lady Theodora has graduated from Miss Emmeline's School of Education and Decorum for Ladies of Outstanding Quality alongside her three roommates and friends, Georgina, Josie, and Adeline. Now about to enter her first season in a London, the skilled lady archers will take on the world of men to save the school they love. However Alistair Price, Adeline's oldest brother and keeper of his younger eight siblings, will do his best to stand in their path to protect the family reputation. Some mild spoilers below.

While based on an interesting concept and idea, Theodora unfortunately fails to deliver particularly well. The basis of the Lady Archers group is this idea of everlasting friendship, however Adeline seems a genuinely terrible friend with few redeeming qualities, Georgie and Josie come off as meek pushovers with no particularly distinct personalities, and Theo seems to spend a great deal of her time feeling as if she doesn't really fit into to this friendship group (which, from the story, does not seem to be inaccurate). The characters are all fairly simplistic and there is a overall lack of character development. While the plot progresses fairly fast, the characters do not seem to grow in any substantial way - Theo never seems to fit in with the friend group, Alistair never overcomes his incredibly off-putting overbearing nature (despite plot hints that he would), Adeline never matures (presumably she will have her own tale later on in which this happens, but her character does not seem to grow at all), and Josie and Georgie never become better friends to Theo either. And while Theo has all the makings of a strong heroine in her archery skills and academic mien (which, as a side note, make it seem like she is entirely too perfect at everything), she never seems to really resonate or grow into a strong, independent personality. There are also some elements of implausibility in that Theo's older brother would be so completely absent from her daily life despite sharing a roof, the rapid raveling and unraveling of the Gladstone courtship plot twist, etc.

While the overarching plot line is interesting and a unique take on a more Regency-style era, the one-dimensional characters and lack of growth as well as issues of implausible plot twists make it difficult to truly appreciate the story.

Thanks to the publisher for an advance digital copy!

It is always interesting to read a book about smart young woman. This book is great example of young women who have interests outside of the usual ones appropriate for young ladies and yet, they don’t let people’s opinions deter them. It is always wonderful to see a hero who not only accepts a woman’s brilliance but who encourages it and is proud of her for it.
Lady Theodora (Theo) Montgomery wasn’t necessarily a trouble-maker but she certainly was a free spirited blue stocking – a young woman who enjoyed studying and calculating and examining all kinds of things. It didn’t help when her brother sent her to Miss Emmeline’s School of Education and Decorum for Ladies of Outstanding Quality. Rather than learning all the finer points of being a young lady of the ton like needlepoint, painting, singing, playing an instrument or how to serve tea while making small talk about the weather, the school encouraged the students to explore their interests. After 6 years with her 3 roommates, Lady Josie, Lady Georgie and Adeline. Over the years, the girls had excelled at archery and came to think of themselves as The Lady Archer Creed.
About to make their come out, the 4 girls meet in London. Adeline (the self-decided leader of their group) decided that they would enter an Archery contest to win some money to donate towards repairs at Miss Emmeline’s. While competing would be ruinous for all the girls, they secretly attended a competition n Whitechapel. While Theo is the best archer among them, she decided not to compete because she has an appointment to meet a famous cartographer to discuss her theories on topography.
Alistair Price is the older brother of Adeline and 7 other siblings. He is determines to keep his family safe and free of scandal. When he learns that his sister is slipping out of the house and finds out why he is outraged. Looking for his sister brings him to Theo’s house and while his overbearing personality upsets her at first, they begin to grow on each other. While Alistair had a rocky relationship with his siblings everything he did was done out of love for his family and he deserves to get a Happily Ever After.
I received an Advanced Copy of this book in return for an honest review.

The Lady Archer's Creed "Friendship, Loyalty, and Honor Above All."
Lady Theodora has just returned from school at Miss Emmeline's School of Education and Decorum for Ladies of Outstanding Quality where she has met her friends Ladies Georgina, Adeline, and Josephine. They all have honed their archery skills and are using them to enter tournaments to raise money to help the school they all love.
Having to keep their identity and their quest secret, they have trouble when Alistair Price catches his sister Adeline sneaking out of their house.
Poor Alistair hasn't yet inherited the Melton Viscountship but due to his father's illness has inherited the responsibility of his eight younger siblings. Since he is responsible for presenting Adeline to society he is in a constant quandary as to how to keep her name out of the gossip rags. At least until he can get her married off. The lady archers turn his world upside down especially Theo.
When he is again at Theodora's looking for Adaline and runs into Mr. Oliver Gladstone he warns Theo about him. After her assurance that she has no intentions to marry until after she has pursued her map making future. He is no longer worried until a few days later when he comes to apologize yet again for a wrong he has done and finds her betroth to Gladstone.

Will Theo be forced to marry a heartless man? Will the Lady Archer's raise enough money without being ruined? Will Alistair be able to gain the woman he loves? And will Theodora ever be able to meet with Damon Cassini who's family has developed topographical maps?

These are all questions that I had when I read this book and they are all answered through out. This is one that will have you rooting for all The Lady Archer's, Alistair and his siblings. Of course you will be rooting for Theo as her world falls apart before it rights again. She is a strong heroine and doesn't need anyone but finds that she likes having someone to lean on.
I started it and couldn't put it down until I found out what happened.
A page turner for sure. I highly Recommend this book!

Theodora by Christina McKnight
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
EEEP!! I love being introduced to new words and new series. This series is going to be a fun one for sure. The series is about 4 Sister from Another Misters who meet at boarding school. We learn all about the bonds of sisterhood while in boarding school and then we see them in the first season of the Ton. Each girl captures your heart and you want to know about them for sure. Theo was a great start because we meet her and fall in love with her in Christina’s other book The Thief Steals Her Earl. Do you need to read this book to understand Theo’s story? No but it’s a great love match so you might want to pick it up after!!
Theo and Adeline are the two leaders …Adeline is the bossy leader but Theo is the brains of the group. They are thick as thieves. When Adeline introduces Theo to her brother she allows him to think she has a gentleman caller when in fact she doesn’t. So, the domineering older brother goes to yell at the caller to fall face first into this beauty with a smart mind and faster whip of an opinion.
Alistair is stunned that Theo can best him in everything from archery to how to deal with his sister Adeline. When he steals a kiss, he realizes he is in way too deep. He must marry off his sibling not get married himself!! Theo is so confused about everything. She is attracted to Alistair but she can’t be. He is the devil Adeline complains about. He is “their enemy”.
When some secret are let out about what the girls have been doing …..inappropriate things at that, Theo sacrifices herself for her friends but Alistair realizes he can’t let this woman go. The ending chapters seem to fly and we are left on the edge of our seats to see who Alistair and Theo can have an HEA together.

What a ridiculous protracted story featuring some laughable caricatures of historical fictional people.

When it started the audiobook was so monotone and droll that I thought it was down to the narrator, but it was super hard to get into the story even when I tried to get past the narrators monotone. So after trying for a while ended up having to take a break from something that was going nowhere. Now when I got back to the story nothing is still happening. I don’t know where is all this action that snaps into place at some point when all I heard was people talking in circles and being a very caricatural representation of the English in that period. There was nothing very interesting here and when I went back to the book I took a closer look at some of the reviews out there and realized the issues they were describing here are something that will make this book hold no interest for further read. The lack of development. The silly HEA ending to kind of put a cap on all the social drama so we can’t see any fall out from the scandal when in fact that was where the whole book was headed towards. The female characters, supporting and main one, were just so over much I got no sympathy for our main heroine. Soo all in all, listened to the first 2hours of so, did not know anything that happened there cuz well nothing really happens. Picked it up again and after an hour of torturous protraction of describing the same issues and the women being over-dramatic and the guys being over censorious there was just nothing valid or noteworthy to pop off the page. So I skipped towards the end and just clued in for a little bit to realize these two characters are marrying and groping and super scared of telling the Hero’s baby sister that this is happening. What the hell… Just this book and author are not gonna work out for me.

Lady Theo made three very good friends when she attended a school to teach her everything a lady should know for polite society. They all loved archery, and Theo excelled at it. Now all of them are to have their first season; therefore, scandal is to be avoided at all costs.

The school that they love is in dire need of money for extensive repairs. They come up with a plan to get the needed money by using their archery skills and competing in an archery tournament. Will their plan lead to their own downfalls? If their identities are discovered they will be ruined. Alistair Price, brother of one of the ladies, meets Lady Theo when he is trying to find his sister. When Alistair discovers what they are up to he is determined to keep them all safe from scandal, and in the process of trying to keep them safe an attraction to Theo blooms. Theo is a very smart woman and is only interested in her maps and not her first season; however, her parents are only interested in matching her up to a person who they know nothing about. All of this does not bode well for Alistair. Will their best laid plans work out? Will anyone find a HEA? Read this wonderful story to find out.

This is a fast-paced story that has a bit of suspense and blackmail along with four very strong and brave women. The story is well-written and the characters are well-developed and totally likable. Very entertaining read! I can't wait for the next installment!

A unique page turner! I am absolutely in love with the lady archers creed series. The story of lady Theo starts at her new school and brings the reader right into a new world of a young lady's experience of presenting talents in front of all the other ladies so they may be roomed with others similar to them.
Theo is a very intelligent, independent, and talented young lady who is set on waiting for marriage and duty. Theo calls on her former roommate and close friend Adeline and meets her brother Alistair, whom is only focused on finding his sister a husband and not on his own heart, finds himself falling in love with the spirited archer Theo.

Positivity. Such a big word, with a simple meaning that means so much. I am drawn to strong heroines. So many times, women are looked at as in need of a rescuer but Ms. McKnight has spotlighted the opposite with her Lady Archer's Creed series. Strength of character breeds strong friendships, fearless women and great storytelling. I can go on all day about Theodora and her band of courageous compadres but the greatest message of all within the pages of this novel is: There is no one mold for a person to fit into. We are special for what we are and that inner light that sets our course not only makes us unique but beautiful.

Excessive Reputation....

Ugh. Seriously this book needed editing. The authors repeated the same things over and over and over. One page they tell you what a character is thinking. Three pages later it’s repeated. I began skimming. This book was dull. The characters flat. I made it 30%. I doubt I can finish. I could careless about these characters. One of the main characters friends is an outright snotty spoiled brat. To think she probably has a whole book in this series. Definitely won’t be reading anymore by these two authors. This is a big fat fail.

Lady Theodora Montgomery has her brother has one of her only friends until she attends Miss Emmeline’s School of Education and Decorum for Ladies of Outstanding Quality. She finds three friends whom she connects with after they leave. Getting ready for her first London season she is also helping her friends with archery contests. Her friend Adeline Price is also waiting to be presented for her first London season aided by her her brother Mr. Alistair Price. He finds them up to no good with the archery and seeks to stop them before they can start a scandal and ruin their chances at a good match.

In an Oyster Shell - A most excellent and satisfying Regency romance.

The Pearls - Right from the beginning Theodora becomes a character that is vulnerable yet has spunk and you become excited to follow her through her story. The concept of her impeccable archery skills just by applying simple physics and mathematics is genius. At that time women are not known for their sharp mind, it is even discouraged. Having Theodora as an astute academically minded female makes for a great story.

The characters make this book the delectable read that it is. Theodora is more quiet and demure while her friend Adeline is outspoken, rash and determined. Adeline pushes Theodora into circumstances that she would rather avoid. It is pinnacle to the whole story. It also helps that her brother gets involved concerned for Adeline to avoid scandal so she can marry well. This puts Theodora and Alastair together more which becomes the romance of the story.

The romance is sweet and elegant with a touch of scandal which makes it more interesting. Alastair comes to Theodora time and again to find his sister Adeline who keeps disappearing.  It is improper for a gentleman to be in the presence of a lady without being properly introduced to her guardian. Alastair takes the risk again and again to save his sister but ends up developing feelings for Theodora as well. It was everything a regency romance should be.

The Sand - It was a well-written story.

An entertaining read... Book One of the Lady Archer’s Creed series starts out in a most unusual way that will entertain the reader. This book involves four intelligent girls who meet at the School of Education and Decorum for Ladies of Outstanding Quality and become fast friends. I must admit this is the most unusual plot I have read in a while and it took me a moment to be fully present and enjoy the authors unique writing style.

Theo makes a great heroine and that she constantly uses her intelligence throughout the book is refreshing and enjoyable. There are times when she appears too naive for her age and then at the flip of a coin she seems too mature all in a good way.

Alistair truly has my sympathy. I am from a large family and it was as crazy as his so he has all my compassion as I was in charge of my siblings as well. His character is believable, annoying, determined and lovable.

Secondary character Adeline just annoyed me to no end. I can honestly say she is someone I would avoid like the plague as a friend but she worked for this group of friends and to draw her brother, Alistair into the story. Other secondary characters and part of the group are Georgie and Josie who though in the book are portrayed in a manner that does not make them standout. They are presented in a way that pulls the reader into wanting to know more about them though.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

Although this is the first Christina McKnight book I have read, I have several in my TBR pile. I have read some Amanda Mariel (Christina's writing partner for this series) offerings and enjoyed them. Set in the Regency period, the storyline takes a different approach to the boy meets girl and they fall in love theme. Alistair Price is rather overbearing, however he is responsible for his eight brothers and sisters since their parents are unable to join them in London. His main attention is on Adeline, the first to come out, and as ornery as they come. She rebels intensely against Alistair s heavy hand. This leads to Alistair seeking assistance from Lady Theodora Montgomery when Adeline escapes her locked room and disappears. Unknowingly, four friends have decided to compete in an archery tournament to raise funds for their beloved boarding school. Alistair is afraid Adeline's ways will ruin her, not only denying her a favorable marriage but will also reflect on the rest of the family. As Alistair is drawn in, he adds Theo to his responsibilities and eventually the other friends as well, but remains heavy handed when it comes to his family. As with other enjoyable stories this one does have a villain who is vying for Theo's hand. However, he is more of an undesirable than a villain, but a good character choice for this story. This is a very nice read and has three more books in the series, telling the other girls stories. Good reading. I received this eBook from NetGalley for an honest review.

A historical romance with a surprising female protagonist in Theodora. She's not a typical woman for the time-frame. She has a mind and uses it. Lady Theo, as she is known, has plans for her future that doesn't necessarily jibe with most young women in the ton.

Yet she meets her match in Alistair Price, the brother of one of her best friends, Adeline. Adeline, Theodora, and two other best friends, Georgie and Josie, hope to earn enough money to keep their school going. They are all excellent archers, but they also ladies, who are about to have their first season of balls, etc. Scandal may destroy their reputations, and being recognized at these contests of archery skill is a real possibility. Will they be caught? Will all the plans Alistair Price has for his sister be ruined? Will his whole family be ruined by Adeline's impetuous actions? What about Alistair and Lady Theo?

Enjoyed the novel and considering reading the others in the series although the excerpt of the next one, Georgina, had plenty of misused words (an example: buy for by). This reader hopes that they were corrected in the final version.

Lady Theodora has two passions in her life, archery, a sport she enjoys with her three former school-friends and map making. Her brother unusually for the time, is supportive of her academic achievements, even going so far as to sponsor her in addressing gatherings at the British Museum. She has no intention of clandestinely taking part in an archery competition (regardless of the fact that the prize money would help with repairs at her beloved school) as the finals clash with her important meeting with the French mapmaker Cassini. However, plans change.....
I really enjoyed this story and hope I have the opportunity to read about Adeline, Josie and Georgie finding their love matches. I would have given this 5* if it were not for some historical inaccuracies.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

Too much introspection

I liked the book cover synopsis of Theodora by Christina McKnight, so I ignored the iffy reviews and went ahead and downloaded it.

I very much liked intrepid and free-thinking Theodora, and I even kind of liked the three finishing school roommates. Sadly, as soon as Alastair made his appearance, the remainder of the book began to go slowly downhill. I use the word slow for a reason. The amount of introspection and detailed descriptions were a major factor in slowing the progress of each scene. Molasses runs down a cold wall faster. By the time I reached what was a decent ending, I was more than ready to remove this read from my Kindle app.

Content 411: This is a clean read that is free of swearing and sex.

This was a solid like for me. For being so long, I found the character and plot development lacking. It was rather one note. There were also timeline issues. Like it’s April. Has the season really not started? There was no real explanation on the aging viscount and when he had all his kids and how old the viscountess is by comparison. And there was not mention of Theo’s story from Cart’s novel. I could be wrong, but I remember it being kind of a big deal. Also, why did the French cartographer have an Italian name. We just needed explanations.

Idk. I did enjoy it overall. It’s a solid late regency read. Certainly not the worst of I’ve read. But it won’t go down as a favorite either.

Sometimes charming, sometimes confusing

I find it difficult to evaluate this book. There were moments when it was charming. The first chapter of the book was lovely. But afterwards, there seemed to be no plot, no action, except a repeat of the same scenario over and over again, ad nauseum. I was tempted to skip this book. The action picked up at the end and the finale was delightful and entertaining. The dialogue was often confusing and unclear, with many typographical errors. Sometimes there were words missing, sometimes there was an extra word inserted at random in a sentence. Sometimes words were incorrectly used. I did like the storyline… I found it original.

This one is better than Jude's

I'll rank it right with Marce and Sam's. Theo knows who she is and doesn't allow a man to lead her by the nose. Cassini is probably historically important but unnecessary in the story. Oliver could have been done better. Oh, he's ugly and overweight so he must be the bad guy. He could have been just a bore with traditional notions about women or at least interesting. Instead, she just went for Peter Pettigrew. Handsome doesn't mean virtuous and ugly doesn't mean evil.

I love historic romances. I love how Lady Theo will stick up for her friends. Lady Adeline older brother Alistair is so overprotective. Theo and Adeline met at school. They are both good at archery. Theo and Adeline enter a archery tournament to help fix up the school.

Alistair want to Lady Theo house looking for his sister. When he left Theo want to check on Adeline. Alistair followed Theo and competed against her.

I love Alistair and Theo together. I highly recommend this story.

I wasn't particularly happy with this story. I loved the idea and the synopsis, but the story didn't come off as quite right. Adeline came across as a bully from the whole story. Georgie and Josie were her followers. Theo was never really shown to fit in with them, she was more the "outsider". And yet we're to believe they're all the best of friends? I liked the actual story, there's no way Theo would be that stupid to keep taking chances with her life.

Delightful Period Romance...

Loved this story even though it's a little like most other romance novels where the hero & heroine butt heads most of the time with good intentions... 😄 I Loved most of the characters, the setting and locations, I liked the archery plot in particular... I Loved the book from start to finish... Can't wait to read book 2 ... I would recommend this clean read novel to all who like Period Romances... 5 Stars from me... 😄

Fantastic story, but.....

It became VERY difficult to read the farther I got into the book. You REALLY need a better proof-reader or type setter or something. The misspelled words or incorrect wording was so rampant in this book, as I said, it made it very difficult to read. That is the reason it only received 3 stars instead of the 5 I would have given it.

I am sick of this same plot. Smarmy man tries to force woman to marry him by threatening her friends or family. I did not finish it.

What fun

To see a self determining lady with familial support. Lady Theo's brother supported her desire to attend school for learning and she made friends there. Upon finishing school they were all set to have their first season but needed to help a friend first. Her interactions with the men she met were often hilarious. Highly recommend.

Theo

The book started out with a good pace then midway it started to drag with a lot of narrations that could have been avoided. The historical storyline reminded me of the Era I used to read the mail order bride books. Would recommend this book to anyone who loves the oldern methods of courtship and loyal friendships and doesn't mind the over narration sections.

This was a wonderful story. This is part of a collection, which includes stories on each of her friends. The next is about Georgiana, I believe. The story was great about women and their ability to have their own minds in a time when they were taught to just honor and obey their father and/or husband.

Lady Theodora Montgomery has a packed schedule before the start of her first London season. She and her friends are to compete in an archery tournament to win the funds needed to restore their beloved boarding school. She is also presenting her work on cartography before a crowd at the British Museum and meeting with a famous Italian mapmaker to discuss her ideas on identifying locations of future coastal flooding. Thankfully her older brother, the earl, is supportive of women striking out on their own paths. What Lady Theo does not have time for are the attentions of her friend’s overprotective older brother, Mr. Alastair Price. He is always there, managing his sister’s life and, apparently, Lady Theo’s as well.

Alastair feels overwhelmed with the care of his eight younger siblings all under the age of twenty and all in need of a good match sooner or later. Only once he sees them all well-married he will begin to contemplate finding a bride himself. He did not count on the spirit of beauty of Lady Theo. Despite his best efforts to the contrary he finds himself being pulled more and more into her orbit.

Christine McKnight’s Theodora is, in a word, chaotic. The hero and heroine are both pulled in multiple directions by competing obligations that often threaten to overwhelm them. As the pace of the novel accelerates it can be difficult to keep track of all the threads of the plot. This, however, makes for an exciting and suspenseful read, for just when one problem seems to be solved, another crops up in its place. The obstacles to a happily ever after seem too many to be surmounted. However, if the reader takes the time for a calming breath it becomes apparent that most of the problems in the story could be solved if the characters would just speak to each other plainly, rather than in half-truths and concealed intentions. Lady Theo’s long-standing dilemma of choosing between archery and cartography comes to mind. Overall, the gaps in character development can be set aside in light of the fast-paced tone of the work.

Excellent clean historical romance. I enjoyed the banter between Theo and Alistair. The storyline is good and moves at a rate that keeps the reader interested. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.
