DNF at 60%

Ya'll know I have no problem DNF-ing a book.

In fact, I just checked and and my DNF count is up to 75 (well, now 76 really). #DNFKilla
I actually used to be someone who HAD to finish every book I started, like I had this idea in my head there would be invisible repercussions if I failed to finish.

But then I realized that I really don't give a rat's ass.
And that my OCD wasn't nearly as pervasive as I thought.

Life is too short and there are too many other books out there to cry over spilled milk.

Even so, there are still books every now and then that it pains me to DNF.

This is one of those books.

Because DRAGONS. And because it's well written and has a cool premise.

However.

When,

1) Your mind is wandering constantly even though you are practically skimming.
2) You have put the book down so many times it's insane.
3) You silently sigh in resignation when you DO try again.
4) You feel no connection to the characters, the story, the ANYTHING.
5) You've read eight other books (literally) during the time you were supposed to be reading this one. 6) You are just bored out of your fucking mind?

Drakon’s Promise is book one of the brand new series, Blood of the Drakon, by N.J. Walters.

Darius Varkas is a billionaire businessman. He’s handsome, smart and reclusive. Because Darius is not human. He is a Drakon. A Drakon is the son of a dragon father and a human mother. He can easily shift between his two forms and has been alive for four thousand years. Darius has three brothers scattered around the U.S. that he keeps in contact with. He loves his brothers as they do him and they go to great lengths to protect each other. The thing they need protection most from is their biggest enemy, The Knights. The Knights seek Drakons for their blood. When a human consumes the fresh blood of a Drakon, it will instantly heal them of anything, and keep them alive indefinitely, as long as they continue to consume the blood regularly. Darius has been on their radar for awhile now but they still aren’t 100% sure if he is a Drakon. The only way to be sure is to capture him.

dragon gif

Sarah Anderson is a research librarian. Sarah has a special gift though. When she touches an object or book, she can see part of it’s history, who else touched it. Her gift is called Psychometry. Sarah has learned how to keep her walls up so she’s not bombarded with everything she touches, but when she is searching for a specific book, her talent is without fail. Sarah was mysteriously laid off from her job at the New York Public Library and was immediately hired by the privately owned Temple Library to catalog their books. Unbeknownst to her, the owner of the library is a Knight. And he wants Sarah to find a very specific book that will help him to capture Drakons. When Sarah learns of this, she feels like she must warn this mysterious man, Darius Varkas, if she can figure out how to find him. But now the Knights are watching her.

When Sarah and Darius meet, the electric connection is instant. Darius is very confused by his reaction to her. He’s never experienced anything like it before. So, his plan is to keep her with him until he can figure out what is going on. Sarah is in danger now and needs protection.

“Sarah Anderson belonged to him, at least for the foreseeable future. And a Drakon always protected what was his.”

mountain cabin:

Sarah and Darius go on a wild ride from New York to the mountains where they stay with one of his brothers, and on from there. Through it all, their connection deepens, as does the danger they are in. The Knights are truly evil, driven by greed, willing to do anything to get what they want.

“To him, she was perfect because she was Sarah.”

 :

Okay, my rating for this book was a solid four stars. There was so many good things about it but some things that just didn’t work as well for me as I would have liked. First, I loved the world created here. The idea of the Drakons is amazing. I loved both Darius and Sarah individually. It’s together that it didn’t work for me as well. I just never quite felt the connection between them. The sexy times were steamy but still, I just didn’t feel it like I wanted to. I never swooned or got butterflies. I just finished this author’s Project Alpha series and loved it. This just felt so different. With that being said, the first book of a series is always the hardest, setting up a brand new world. I am very intrigued and definitely want to follow through with more of the series. There is an epilogue with just enough there that makes me want to come back for more.

4.5 - "Watch... And don't be afraid." Stars!

Drakon Promise is the first book I have read by this author, it is also the first book in Blood of the Drakon series, and I have to say I was mightily impressed.

A drakon always protected what was his…

My love of the PNR genre has grown exponentially over the last year or two, I think that is largely to do with the fact that I have discovered a few authors along my reading travels that have written books in this genre that have turned out to be absolute favourites, and I know that they are stories and series that I will revisit again and again in the future. N. J. Walters gave me that feeling with Darius and Sarah’s story.

"You have nothing to fear from me."

I only hope that the author/publisher keep the momentum going with the series, and don’t wait an absolute age to release the next titles from it, (sadly, this is something Entangled and some of their authors seem to excel at, and it quite frankly kills a series dead for me if I then have to wait 12 months or more for further books) reason being in the main is that there is a lot going on in the plot, and although I have a feeling the next two books will feature a different Drakon, there is a bigger story going on around them each finding their mates, which when there are great swathes of time between releases muddies the memory of the story that has already been told.

Their fates were tied together, whether they wanted them to be or not…

The dual POV from the Darius and Sarah as well as the villains of the story really gave added depth as well, you saw the plot from all sides as it played out, and once things got going it was full steam ahead. Another thing I liked was the fact this book really didn’t feel or read like anything else I have read previously, and I have to say I do have a bit of a soft spot for anything involving a fire breathing hero.

There was plenty of chemistry between them as well, and the sexy-times were well written and diverse. Darius verbal sparring with his brother Tarrant was hilarious at points, and I am looking forward to him, Ezra and Nicodemus getting their women, and the general story arc playing out around that in the rest of the series.

"You stay with me…"

So to sum up, great start to what could be an absolutely outstanding series, as long as I am not waiting forever and a day for the rest of the books to be released.

Wow. What a start to what I'm sure will be an amazing new series! I'm hooked!

Two words: Drakons & Mates. Well technically the "&" makes it three words..

FYI, Drakons are the offspring of dragons and human females. Drakons are always male. While this story focuses on Darius and Sarah, there is a big family element (like many of N.J.'s books). Darius has three half brothers (who I'm assuming will have their own books) and have an ongoing interconnected story with this one. We meet two of them in this story. I CAN'T WAIT for Tarrant's story!

Hero: 5 stars! As far as heroes go, Darius is pretty fucking awesome. He's super loyal, intelligent, and of course hunky and huge. I love how devoted he is to Sarah, even before he even realizes what Sarah is to him. He's so protective of his brothers and even Sarah early on. Plus he's a dragon. And 7 feet tall. I want to climb him like a tree.

Heroine: 3.5 stars! Okay. Sarah wasn't my favorite. I loved how independent and strong she is. How intelligent and brave she is.... but... she just didn't "click" with Darius like I wanted her to. I felt the connection on his end, but because it took her so long to relent to him and her feelings, I feel like the author missed the mark with the connection on her side. I still like her; she just wasn't my favorite.

Plot: 5 stars! Even though Darius is great, the plot is what kept me turning the pages. What a WONDERFUL story! Seriously. This was spot on. The storyline, suspense, and action... so great! I really have nothing bad to say about the plot.

Sex scenes: 4 stars! Perfectly adequate to satisfy my inner pervert. I may have wanted a little more, but again... pervert.

What I loved: Darius. Ongoing storyline.

What I disliked: Sarah.

Will I read this author again? Oh yes. Especially this series.

In short: If you love mate-shifter stories... pick this up when it releases!

Spoiler shit:

Drakon’s Promise is book one in the Blood of the Drakon series by N.J. Walters. This brand new series brings together a unique set of characters, suspense, mystery, and romance.

It’s a great start with lots of interesting plot twists, turns, and action. We get a good amount of world building and explaining on who The Knights of the Dragon. I liked the setup and premise of the story. The plot was thrilling and full of mystery. We are kept on our toes.

Sarah captivated me from the start. I really liked her. She's brave and honorable while wanting to stand on her own two feet. I also liked that she’s a librarian with a unique skill set. Darius is sexy, charming, and a gentlemen. He is also a drakon.

Though Sarah and Darius have feelings for each other they aren't “insta” and they both go through some concerns as to why they are attracted to each other. These two go on a wild ride and through it their connection and chemistry grow as does the danger. As for their romance I didn’t fully feel the connection between them, but they were still enjoyable characters to read about.

The only two issues with me and they are minor detail oriented. Sarah mentions coffee a lot and drinks way too much coffee. Their was such a big emphasis on coffee. Don’t they drink other hot beverages, like tea and cocoa. And, the second thing was Sarah sits down to do some research and put feelers out, but Sarah never got back online to see if anyone had replayed. The characters in this scene just move onto the brothers idea. Why put this in the story if you aren't going to explore it? It felt like filler material.

Drakon’s Promise had a lot to savor. I liked the idea of the Drakons and the Knights. I liked the world building and characters introduced. I very much enjoyed learning a little about Darius brothers and look forward to each of their stories. We get an intriguing set up for the next installment in the Blood of the Drakon series that really has my interest peaked.

Rated: 3.5 Stars

Dragons do exist! I was almost afraid to read N J Walters new shifter book, Drakon's Promise Drakon's Promise (Blood of the Drakon, #1) by N.J. Walters after reading so many awful books this past year from some of my favorite authors. I had no need to worry. Ms Walters has never failed to please me with her stories and Drakon is near perfection. My faith is restored.

Darius Varkus is everything you have every dreamed of in a hero. Well, everything I ever dreamed of. He is handsome, smart, and very seclusive in all aspects of his life. And he's a billionaire...as in a dragon with gold and silver mines, and jewels...because dragons gather precious items close and keep them safe. Darius has just discovered someone very precious.

Sarah Anderson is a brilliant research librarian who has found a mysterious book that will thrust her into a world she never could have imagined. When she meets Darius there is instant chemistry. What I love about her is that she is smart, perceptive, and has a very special gift that some very evil people are will to kill to possess.

I don't do spoilers...there are enough of those around. I just fell into this book and it played like a movie in my head. The book came alive, I fell in love with these characters, and I cared about what was happening to them.

The very best part, besides a HEA? Darius has brothers...three of them. They are just as handsome, smart, and rich as he is...and their stories are surely just waiting for the talented Ms. Walters to put pen to paper and create their HEA... I for one will be waiting.

I loved this book.

These are the moments when I wish I had a bigger option in rating as to separate negative ratings from the nilch/zero/not good but not awfully bad ones. :/

This book stands strongly in this latter category: it's not overly bad, it simply lacks anything good. It's a null, a zero. Nothing new in itself isn't that bad, but if you add the not much happening and above all the terribly flat writing you get the 1 star.
A corpse's heart at the morgue has more vitality and shows more peaks than the writing in this book. Here you don't feel the danger, you don't feel the passion, the depth of someone's personality. I'm really not joking when I say flatliner...

I skim read many pages in the second half, and didn't DNF only because I refused to.

After falling so deeply in love with The Forgotten Brotherhood series by N.J. Walters, I added her all of her books to my to-read list. Drakon's Promise is the first in a series about dragon shifters and I was super excited to read it because... DRAGONS!!

Darius - a four thousand year old drakon, he has only feared one thing... either himself or one of his brothers being captured by the Knights of the Dragon, where they would be tortured and drained for the power in their blood. This was a fear he was familiar with, however, when he met Sarah, he realized that his long, lonely existence would never be the same and that fear for her safety was a whole other terror of its own.

Sarah - quiet and unassuming, she had a special affinity for objects, especially books. Her new job comes with new problems and when she finds out her new boss intends to kidnap and possibly kill someone (Darius), she feels duty bound to warn him.

Karina Azarov - a young, ruthless woman who happened to be the learder of the Knights.

I absolutely loved Darius and I'm intrigued by his brothers. I'll definitely be continuing this series because I have to know how these drakons eradicate the Knights. While this story was just as brilliantly written as I expected it to be, the heroine was a drag and took away from how much I could have enjoyed it.

Well that just sucked me in and didn't let go!

Great start to the new series. Lots of interesting plot twists and action. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it. I truly didn't know how it would end.

Darius is HOT and not a jerk! You don't have to hate him and then learn to like him. You like him from the start and learn to love him. He doesn't go all alpha male and make all the decisions. He is powerful in his own right and very interesting.

Sarah is a great female lead. She never did anything dumb or make a bad choice having you bang your head in your kindle. She was smart and didn't take any crap. Loved her.

Interesting take on knights and dragons. The characters are intriguing even the bad guys! Can't wait for more!

3.5 ~ Bring On the Drakons ~ Stars!

The set up to this new paranormal series was awesome. Although both Darius and Sarah were a little too serious and straight forward at times (and there is nothing wrong with that) I just felt that at times a good humorous moment would have gone a long way to lighten the mood, especially since this was a race against time and their lives were in danger like all the time!

There was no time to relax, to enjoy their new feelings towards each other and I think that set the doom and gloom tone of the story. This does have a lot of action, a huge cat and mouse game between Darius and the crazy Knights of the Dragon (cult like group that capture and study the Drakon blood) and if you like Buffy or Supernatural, the epic scene during the exorcist at the church with Father Simon is edge of your seat awesome (if a little sad in the end.)

What made up for that debbie downer-ness of this story was the awesome back story this author gave us regarding the Drakons (half Dragon, half human beings) and their Dragon ancestors.

Just a few things that really stood out for me and that my inner nerd was totally obsessing over:

>>> Dragons traveled from other world/dimension and the last of their kind left 4 thousands years ago.

>>> Dragons can have children with human females but they have only ever had male children, no females. Does this mean the original Dragons that came here, were also just males?

>>> Dragons could only hold their human form for a short amount of time, but Drakons can hold either form indefinitely. Best of both worlds!

>>> The blood of a Drakon can cure any illness, prolong life and can even give you special powers or abilities that vary from person to person. Super powers, any one?

>>> The Drakon version of (permanent) hibernation called the Deep Sleep. Drakons choose to fall into a deep "deathlike" slumber until their bodies eventually turn to stone. Jury is still out on whether these Deep Sleep Drakon's can ever wake up.

>>> The fact that Drakons, much like Dragons, still hoard their wealth/treasure.

(I about melted when Darius refers to Sarah as his treasure *swoon worthy*)
It was the drakon part of his nature. She was his treasure. His to guard and to protect.

>>> And last but not least . . .the fact that Drakons/Dragons are elemental. Meaning there is Fire, Water, Earth and Air Drakons/Dragons. And to put a cherry on top, they cry jewels!

All drakon tears are different, but one thing they have in common is they're extremely rare. A drakon cries for one reason only - because his heart is breaking. Fire drakons cry rubies, water drakons sapphires, and air drakons emeralds. But an earth drakon" - his voice husky - "an earth drakon cries diamonds."

Overall a great read. I marked it down a few stars because it ends on a cliffy (that will be continued in book two, about grumpy/suspicious-pants Tarrant) and there was a very rushed HFN ending for our MCs.

Safety: Yes.
Ages: Sarah is 28, Daries a few thousand years old :)
No Virgins
No Cheating
No OM/OW drama
No Separation
Ends with a HFN
Ends in a Cliffhanger
Should not be read as a stand alone.

He’s wealthy, he’s dominant and he’s very, very sexy. Clearly Darius is a force to be reckoned with, and his secrets are kept well hidden. How can you tell people you are thousands of years old and that you truly are larger than life, more than a mere human, but part dragon, too? Darius is a drakon and a very alpha one, at that. His blood has healing properties that make him a target of the Knights of the Dragon, an honorable sounding name with dark and sinister underpinnings.
Sarah is a librarian, books are her domain, but when she stumbled on an ancient tome, her own secrets, as well as her very existence are forced into a dark world of the impossible, filled with dangerous secrets and deadly evil. The Knights want that book and working with Darius may be all that keeps them alive.

The race against capture and death is on as Darius and Sarah both realize they have more in common than survival. Is it the desire to live that creates the raw and animalistic attraction between them or have they each found their other half?

N.J. Walters has created some high tension steam, life-threatening bad guys and a world that goes on under the radar of humanity. DRAKON’S PROMISE starts its world building at the start, but it is cut off as the characters take center stage with passionate sex, hidden secrets and death nipping at their heels. Their romance doesn’t steep until it is well-brewed, it explodes like an egg in the microwave!

I think Sarah may have been my favorite character, a nice person without hidden agendas, while I thought Darius was sometimes just short of a knuckle-dragging alpha male to whom compromise is a four-letter word. If you are looking for lots of racy heat, nasty villains and an intriguing take of dragons and their offspring, I have to say, N.J. Walters has it all packed in tight as a clam in a shell!

This book has me torn. N.J. Walters is one of my go-to authors so I expect a lot from her. The storyline was great, the characters compelling and interesting, and the antagonists fascinating. But I found myself getting frustrated and which led me to constantly setting the books aside. It took me three days to read this book. Three days, when I can usually knock a book out in one, two if it’s a long one.

I liked Darius. Mr. Tall, dark and mysterious was alpha to his core and extremely impressive in most things. The heroine, Sarah, was a research librarian with an amazing gift that I would love to have. Especially since she had control of it and not the other way around.

The antagonists, the Knights of the Dragons, hunted and imprisoned drakons and stole their blood to prolong their lives, heal their bodies, and maybe get an extra power or two. This wasn’t a loyal group and the backstabbing and jockeying for position made things interesting.

What kept me frustrated was the mistakes made by Darious and his brother Since their actions didn’t fit the characters, some situations felt contrived and just a way to move the story along.

Other than the main characters and the bad guys, we really don’t meet a lot of other characters, except for Tarrant, Darius’ brother. Yes, he made a couple mistakes (arguably Darius made them, he just didn’t check) but he vacillated between showing glimmers of sweet and being kind of a dick. Of course this meant I really liked him and now want his story.

So now I have to decide how to rate the book. As I said, it had an interesting storyline, characters I really liked, and the sexcapades were hot, hot, hot which makes up for some of my issues. I will definitely be checking out the rest of the series as they are released.

This is an interesting start to the new series, Blood of the Drakon, where the drakons are being hunted by their ancient enemies, the Knights. The Knights wish to use the drakons’ blood because it has the power to prolong their own lives and to heal both injuries and illnesses. The problem with that is they need fresh blood and wish to keep drakons captive to obtain a ready supply.

Reclusive billionaire, Darius Varkas is a drakon - his mother was human but his father a dragon which means that he and his brothers are both and can shift forms as they wish. One of his brothers rings to warn that “The Knights are back.”

Research librarian Sarah Anderson has been coerced into working cataloguing a private library. She has a special, supposedly secret, ability which makes her ideal for her new role but when she overhears her new employer and his son discussing kidnapping Darius she wonders what she’s let herself in for! Soon after, she discovers a powerful, evil book which she decides to take to Darius and warn him about what she heard. Sharing that news is the trigger for this fast paced adventure and the beginning of romance between the two. He’s a strong alpha male, wanting to protect

With cross country flights, exorcism, murder, gunfights as well as steamy scenes this is a well paced story with great characters and interactions. There are plenty of twists and turns as Darius and Sarah strive to thwart the kidnappers and some well developed secondary characters introduced, too. The epilogue hints to the next in the series and I’ll certainly be looking out for it!

Many thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for gifting me an ARC of this novel with no obligation. This is my honest review.

I was excited to read Drakon's Promise as I love all types of paranormal romance (PNR) having to do with Drakons and Dragons in general. I love the whole mythology surrounding them and the idea that for every Dragon/Drakon (offspring of a dragon/human mating) there is one mate for everyone. It's such a romantic concept that is common among the Dragon PNR genre.

In this novel I found the hero, Darius to be charming. He was alpha to the core but immediately had a weak spot for Sarah at first glance. While his feelings rapidly developed, they weren't "insta" as he was initially confused and concerned as to why he developed such an attachment to her.

Sarah was refreshing to read. She was brave and honorable while also wanting to stand on her own two feet. There was a fair amount of world building in this novel, explaining psychometry and who the Knights of the Dragon were, but it wasn't overwhelming. This was a good start to the series. ~ Ratula, 3 Stars

2.5 stars.

I really really hate reading books that lack simple logic. This book could have been better if the author didn’t totally ignore certain obvious things in order to progress the story. So this book is obviously a fantasy romance, since it contains dragons, and there’s a lot of suspending disbelief. However, the author incorporated the dragons into our current world. They are all incredibly wealthy and are able to use all kinds of different technologies to hide their locations, get away, etc. However, none of these BILLIONAIRES have trusted staff working for them - they do everything for themselves - even the smallest stupidest things. They also don’t even consider changing their identities somehow? Endless resources and they haven’t thought of having an alternate identity… 🤨🤨🤨 It’s so bad that they can’t even go pick up a package without fearing being recognized. It doesn’t make any sense - why not just have Amazon deliver to their doors? I feel like the author only included logic where it suited her story, which is a major pet peeve of mine.

Safe; no om/ow drama, no cheating, no scenes with om/ow, no virgins, hero is a few thousand years old and has been around the block.

Alert: Review containing GIFS.
Who doesn’t love some dragon shifters! I’m always in search of books with dragon shifters so when I saw this, I knew I had to read it and since I have read some pnr books by N.J. walters previously I knew it would be good and it was.

I really liked the twist on the dragon lore, the crazy and creepy book and how drakon shifters came to be.

Sarah Anderson is a librarian who deals with antique books. Her gift of psychometry helps her date the books and find out if they are original copies. Working for her new employer, Sarah stumbles on potential criminal intent along with a book like an aura that she never encountered before. Sarah mostly ordinary life turns upside down when she meets Darius.

Darius Varkas is a drakon, a child of a human mother and his drgaon shifter father. In the past, Drakon's were hunted and kept captive for their blood by the Knights, which not only keeps one young but also gives the individual some powers. However in the past few years everything has been relativity clam which promptly ends when Sarah discovers the Knight's plot against Darius.

I really liked Darius and Sarah together. Sarah was great strong heroine, she wanted to help Darius warn him of his impending captivity when she ends up being taken along an adventure with Darius. I also really loved Sarah's love for ancient books who wouldn't want to be interested in knowing more about the old and fascinating books. Darius has heard about females who were destined to be mates of drakons but always thought them a myth however his and dragon's reaction to Sarah makes him question the myth.

With sparking chemistry, budding connection, romance and caring between Sarah and Darius along with the slight suspense and threat of violence and impending danger from the Knights made it for a interesting read.

Quibbles: It’s was mentioned that Sarah did a Phd and she had an excellent academic career, I would liked to know a bit more about that since after the appointment with her boss it was never mentioned again and considering she was very young when she went to high school and university it must have had an impact on her but it never came back up and I would liked to know a bit more Darius past as well, we did get to know a bit but I'm greedy.

The world building was done pretty well and I’m hoping we get to see more development and history of the drakons and Knights. I also liked the lore of dragon's, it was slightly different from other dragon shifter books as was why they 'Knights' hunted them.

I’m very interested to see how the other brothers; stories play out and from the little chapter we got from Valeria’s POV it seems like she and Darius's brother Tarrant would be getting the next book and since he currently happens to be a very unhappy and grieving drakon, it will make things certainly complicated and interesting.

This was a great start to a new series! Can't wait to see what more N.J. Walters has in store for us. Bring on more dragons, I say!

P.S I did actually watch that dargon tales (the cartoon in the last gif) as a child and I loved it!

Drakon's Promise (Blood of the Drakon #1) by N.J. Walters

Darius Varkas is a drakon. He's neither human nor dragon. He's both. He's also the target of an ancient order who want to capture all drakons for their blood. When fresh, a drakon's blood can cure any illness and prolong a human's life, and the Knights will stop at nothing to get it.When librarian Sarah Anderson stumbles across a rare book belonging to the Knights of the Dragon, she's quickly thrust into a dangerous world of secrets and shifters and things she never would have believed possible.

When the Knights realize Sarah has a secret of her own, she becomes just as much a target as Darius. Her scary dragon shifter just might be her best chance at survival.

I wasn't sure about this book going in because dragons are hard for some authors to do well but Walters has done a fabulous job bringing her cast to life for readers of this sexy and exciting book.
Lord of the Rings vs Dragon Shifters is fun, its dangerous and its steamy. Beware ladies these men will ensnare you! Devoted to their brothers, on the run from the Knights and in danger of being exposed for their blood these men will do anything to keep eachother safe.
Although I wasn't sure about Sarah at first she eventually grew on me and quickly became a part of the clan. Instant love isn't always a draw for me but I couldn't help but root for her and Darius.
Blood of Drakon is unique to the usual dragon shifter romances you've read, if you haven't had a chance to read it yet go and get it now - you won't regret it.

Darius sometimes forgets himself, “ah, you might want to get something for yourself, too.” ****. He’d gotten so caught up in taking care of Sarah, he’d forgotten he was bare-*** naked." It's quite obvious that Darius and his brother are the meat and potato sort, “what about a salad?” Both men looked at Sarah like she was speaking a foreign language. She rubbed her hand over her forehead. “Let me guess. That’s girl food.” Both of them nodded in tandem." I enjoyed this book, great start to a new series I'm excited for more.

This started well, decent wordbuilding, and a likable heroine. The dragon/drakon mythology was entertaining at first. I was fairly interested through the first third of the book, even though the story was derivative of several other PNR series. The insta-lust, fated mate and MINE finally started to drag the read down for me; and it didn't help that not much happened in the storyline.

There was absolutely nothing new here, it was all well-trodden ground; and it just never quite pulled me in.

Wow! It's been a bit since I have read something fresh about Dragons. This is a new to me author, but I was completely blown away! I scooped up the next two books as well and read them back to back.

Darius is a Drakon--half human, half Dragon--and he and his brothers have been in hiding most of their 4000 years of life. The Dragon Knights organization has been trying to capture and control their kind almost as long. Things are changing in the bad guy world and the Knights are making moves again. Sarah, an innocent librarian--with some special gifts of her own--gets caught up in the danger.

What I liked about this premise:

1. The Drakon's aren't necessarily looking for "soul mates". Sarah and Darius become a couple before the Dragon inside decides Sarah is HIS.

2. The history, artifacts, alchemy, books and all that geeky stuff was just AWESOME!

3. The vulnerability Darius shows. Tough Alpha Drakon but when it comes to his heart, his softer side goes to Sarah. Dragon Tears---Ahhhh!

Grab the whole set. One more book to come still but these will tide you over for bit.

Trope heavy story with huge dragon H, he's old and an introvert. This leads to his biggest mistake, he's not tech savvy and it causes him to put heroine at risk. She's human but has a gift, and very frightened by her attraction to him. She's very real, I would have like to see more of her gift, and I liked her a lot. This is an intro to a good series, but sadly the the cost of the books are beyond my budget. Plus tropes were annoying.

A great start to a new paranormal romance series featuring dragon shifters! If you know me, it isn't a big secret that I love shifters especially dragon shifters!Going into this book, I was expecting a usual paranormal romance. This was quite better than what I expected!

Drakons are half human, half dragon sons born to male dragon and female human.Unlike dragons, they can shift and hold both human and dragon forms for long periods of time.Darius Varkas and his three brothers are drakons. There are only a few left in the world and they are quite secretive.Drakons are hunted for their blood, which can be used to cure illnesses and prolong life. The Knights of the Dragon are the ones who hunt them the most. Now, that they are back, Darius and his brothers are in danger.

Sarah Anderson is a librarian with the rare gift of psychometry. When she loses her job and manages to get another one where she has to catalog a private collection of books, she is drawn into the fight between the Knights and Dragons. She finds a book that could be used to trap and enslave drakons and overhears a conversation involving the Knights. Her conscience and sense of selflessness make her reach out to Darius to warn him.Darius is quite rich and owns many mining companies. He already has safe guards in place and has taken preemptive measures. But when he meets this librarian who wants to warn him and give him the book that could change their future, he doesn't know whether to trust her.
But, once he realizes that she has nothing but good intentions, all bets are off. With the knights hot on their trail, Darius has to get away and he isn't leaving Sarah behind. There is also the sizzling attraction between them, one like he has never felt before.Every drakon has one mate, but many hardly ever meet theirs. Is Sarah his?And will they make it out alive?

This was a fast paced paranormal romance that was written very well. The concept of dragon shifters and mates isn't new, but I like how the author has put her own spin on it.Both Darius and Sarah were great main characters and the romance between them was well done, though it was a little rushed for my tastes. But since it's the one true mate thing, I know we can't deny the connection between them.
Personally Sarah was my favorite.Intelligent, resilient, witty and loyal. The villains weren't that well fleshed out and felt one dimensional at times with their motivations.
I hope they improve in the future!
Darius' brothers are also great additions, and since each one of them will be getting their own book, I'm so excited for the next books in this series!!

Drakon's Promise was definitely a sexy book! If you are looking for a book with a lot of steam mixed with paranormal aspects, then is a book you might want to check out! However, if you are looking for a book with in-depth world building and a slow burning romance, then this probably isn't a book for you. I was hoping for more of the latter, so I was a little disappointed with this book.

I thought the concept of this world was so interesting and unique. I really liked what the author created, but I didn't like the way it was developed in the book. I felt like all of the information about the world felt very info-dumpy. A lot of the world was just explained in a few paragraphs in the beginning. It was hard for me to fully understand everything. However, by the end of the book, I had a much better understanding of the world. The plot was slow moving at times, especially in the beginning. I was happy that as the book went on, the pacing did seem to improve.

I did like the main female character, Sarah. Sarah was a sweet and caring woman. I liked that she stood her ground when she needed too! Her magic powers were very interesting, and I really liked it whenever she got the chance to use her powers! #GoBookNerds

Darius was a typical alpha male. Darius was dominant, protective, and he oozed sex appeal. I will admit that he was very sexy, but sometimes he was a bit too "alpha like" for me. His relationship with Sarah was passionate and steamy. I thought their romance was insta-lust that crossed over into insta-love. Their instant almost obsession with each other was a bit cheesy, but I thought the author did a great job at writing sexy moments!

Overall, I would say this was an intriguing book. I personally didn't LOVE this book, but if you are looking for a quick, smutty read with dragons then this is perfect for you! I am interested to see what the author will do with Darius' brothers and if she expands on the world more. I might not pick the next book up immediately, but I do eventually plan on seeing what happens next.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Dragons? Well, I do. I especially like it when it's a demi-dragon or half breed. This is the case with this story and I loved the name of the breed, Drakon (Dragon/Human), it totally works. The world that has been created is easy to understand so that we're able to concentrate on the story, which was a good thing because it allowed me to focus on the two characters more.

Darius is our Drakon. Yep, half dragon and half human. He's also ridiculously handsome, old (in age because he's half dragon after all) and a billionaire. He's been lucky over the last thousands of years evading the Knights that have been hunting him and his brothers down, but now they seem to be getting closer. He's on their radar and they're moving in fast. Probably because they're getting a little help.

Sarah is a librarian with a special gift. When ever she touches a book, she sees the history/past behind it. Pretty cool gift to have unless someone is using you to get what they want. Yep, can you guess? The Knights have found out about Sarah's gift and have hired her to help locate a book that will lead them to Darius. But Sarah decides that she needs to help Darius instead of helping the Knights and we're whisked away on a pretty cool journey.

These two embark on a journey, evading the Knights and "getting to know" one another. Although the chemistry between the two of them is hot and we get to witness some goodie goodie, I personally felt that for a mated couple, it lacked a little oomph. It's really hard to put a finger on it, but it was just lacking the connection for ME. All in all, good start to a promising series. I'll be sure to stick with this one because, well...there ARE brothers...

Oh my god I just finished Drakon's Promise by N.J. Walter and I loved it! The suspense, action, and romance will knock your socks off! I really enjoy shifter romance novels, and I have to say this one is my new favorite. My heart was racing, I was biting my nails scared of what was to come!

Drakons kind have dwindled. Being hunted one by one for their blood. A war is brewing, one that could end the magnificent race.

And Sarah is caught right in the middle.

She is offered a job that seems to good to be true, and she is right. Now she has to fight to stay alive.

A chance meeting with Darius Varkas, changes the way she views the world. Myths become legends and she falls in love. Together they will stand and fight against the Knights no matter the costs!

The question is:

Who exactly is this Darius?
What is he hiding?
Will they get out of this war alive?

Read to find out!
