This anthology of “Cowgirl” poets, and edited by Jill Charlotte Stanford (The Cowgirl's Cookbook, Keep Cookin' Cowgirl) features the words of a wide range of Western women poets chosen for this collection by real ranching women and cowgirls across the West as the poets whose words most speak to them and the Western experience.
This book definitely spoke to me. Having lived on both the East and West Coast of the US for extended periods of time -- I have always been pulled West. I found the openness, the light, the expansiveness of it truly holds me enthralled. These poems are written by 30 Western women revealing life on a ranch, life outdoors, as well as the work, hardships, joys and satisfaction about living in the West and following a traditional life...one I fear is disappearing along with the farming life of the mid-west.
I have attended a some cowboy poetry gatherings and had the pleasure of hearing some Western poets and songwriters at various storytelling events, so was pleased to see that someone had compiled a selection of these Women writers.
