I love Zoe Chant. She finds the perfect balance of humor and romance with a little PNR thrown in. Though this is a shifter romance the focus is not on the shifter aspect of the story. This is a fated mates/instant love book. Signy Zlotsky is human. As far as she knows. Until one day a black town car shows up and changes her life. Signy finds out she is a princess and her father was a crown prince of a country made entirely of shifter. Her father died when she was very young and she thought her memories of him were just things she made up about him. Now she realizes her memories of him turning into a bear and calling her princess are not fantasies but were real. Not only does Signy find out she really is a princess and her father a shifter, but also that her grandfather is dying and the country needs a new king. Because she can't shift she can't sit on the throne, but if she marries her husband will be the new king.
Kai has come to American as a representative of the Royal Guard of Valtyra to find his country's princess. Immediately upon meeting Signy, Kia recognizes she is his fated mate. The problem is Kai has sworn allegiance to the royal family and forsaken his own family and right to a mate. Kai and Signy can't resist each other, but they must keep their feelings a secret until they can get the king's blessing of their union. There are forces working against them. But Signy and Kia overcome to find their HEA!
And what a journey it is. There is romance, sexy times, and mystery. This book is a cute, easy ready. Signy is a sassy, determined heroine. She takes all the changes in stride and fights for her own happiness. Kia is a sexy, alpha male. He has feelings of abandonment from his childhood that he hasn't overcome, and his problems with his family led to him joining the Royal Guard. Kia doesn't let those issues stand in the way of his feelings for Signy. He's a growly shifter who does everything in his power to love and protect his mate. CAPTIVATING, SEXY & ROYALLY ENTERTAINING !!!

Wow! Another fabulous read from Zoe Chant! I've been a Chant fan for several years and anxiously await her new releases. Before I read the first line of any of Chant's stories, I know I'm guaranteed a wonderfully entertaining as well as satisfying experience, and this book was certainly no exception! Royal Guard Lion is an exciting, fast-paced, exceptionally well-crafted and edited novella length standalone paranormal tale filled to the brim with the perfect combination of heart-stopping danger, riveting drama, heart-wrenching angst, steamy passion and dreamy, heartwarming romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with clearly defined his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, easy to follow, well executed and flows beautifully. It's always such a pleasure to read a Zoe Chant book. Yes, the craftsmanship is superior and the plots are always riveting but, without a doubt, my favorite component of every Chant story is always her cast of powerfully portrayed and engaging characters. I was immediately drawn into the story by our beautiful but somewhat timid female protagonist, Signy Vlotsky who found her voice along with her inner strength and courage when faced with a challenge, and fell head over heels in love with our male protagonist, handsome loyal lion shifter and Lieutenant of the Royal Guard, Kai, before I even discovered he was the actual hero of the story. These two characters complemented each other perfectly and their sexual chemistry was nothing short of explosive as well as undeniable. I also loved the secondary players of this cast and became so invested in their lives. I truly hope they, too, will be given their own story. I would love to hear more about Poppy, Laila, Stefan and Tristan...and maybe even Peter. Nothing like a great antihero or reformed bad guy! Hmm... Why not an entire series featuring all the different shifters of the Valtyran kingdom and hopefully we'd be able to check in occasionally with Kai, Signy and her grandfather. And Zoe Chant is just the writer who could do it and exceptionally well as evidenced by her Protector Inc, Enforcer Bears, Gray's Hollow Dragon Shifters and Fire and Rescue Shifters Series. More of my favorites! Chant is such a gifted storyteller and master wordsmith with a remarkable imagination who excels at building vividly detailed worlds, then populating them with strong, unique, intriguing, and diverse characters. And even though this book may not be considered by industry standards to be a full-length novel, it does pack quite a punch and is loaded with all the elements necessary to make an enjoyable read. Chant skillfully combines every single one of these elements to craft a heartwarming and delightfully entertaining paranormal romance which will engage your imagination as well as capture your heart. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some steamy but tastefully written sex scenes. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book? And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my seat, white-knuckling my ereader with my heart fluttering in my chest while the time flew as quickly as the pages! Unfortunately, Signy Vlotsky had more important things to think about... like finishing her first day on her new job as a pharmacy tech and wishing someone would care enough to just get her name right for a change. Actually, Signy had been told she wasn't a princess, or more accurately, no longer a princess. Huh? Yup, at twenty-five years old, Signy discovers she actually is a princess and the emissary from her grandfather, the King, has just shown up at her home telling her she's needed back in the kingdom. What? Signy was raised by her stepfather; she doesn't even remember her real father.... until now. Flashes of memory are beginning to surface and suddenly she remembers her real father was a police officer who died when she was only two...but more importantly, he was so much more...he was a polar bear shifter. Oh my! Signy's father was the crown prince and her father's brother, the only other surviving heir to the throne, has recently passed away leaving Signy to take up the scepter, so to speak, for her grandfather who, apparently, is quite ill. Well, kinda. Signy will become the crown princess and then the queen but sadly, she's human and can't shift, so she can't actually rule the country... but the man she marries can and will become the king... as long as he's a shifter. So what does that all mean? Well, it means her grandfather now expects her to come to Valtyra and marry a shifter so the island kingdom of all shifter residents will have a ruler when he steps down, preferably one chosen by the King and his Council. Oh dear! What the heck? There's no way she's marrying someone she doesn't love, especially when she suddenly realizes the hot lion shifter accompanying the emissary is not only a member of the Royal Guard and her protector, he's also her mate! What? This situation just got real complicated...really fast! What's a curvaceous lowly pharmacy tech to do? Why become a princess, of course, and use some of that good old American ingenuity she'd been born with so she could have it all... be a princess, become a queen, and keep her family as well as the man she loves. Unfortunately, there are dangerous people with evil machinations determined to interfere but will Signy be strong enough to outwit and out-maneuver them? We'll see!

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! This is a book I own and bought in November 2016, and no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!
This is the 1st book in the series and is for adults only due to the steamy content. I highly recommend reading this series in order because I was lost when I did it. This book gives you information about the world and makes book 2 more complete by reading this first!
I really like Signy and Kai, and they make a great pair! This book had mystery, intrigue, treachery, and romance. I couldn’t put it down! My mom is the one who recommend I read the book because she loved it. I’ve been in an HEA mood lately and love Zoe’s writing style. It speaks to me and makes me happy when I read her books especially in this tumultuous world when we are bombarded with negative messages all the time.
I highly recommend to those who need an HEA pick me up because Zoe rocks them! I think all the shifter fans will find something to love reading this book!

Signy lives in America, when she discovers that she is the princess of an unknown country. She discovers that her father, who died when she was little was a prince. Now that all of her father's family is dead except for a grandfather, she is required to come rule the country. Oh yeah, and the country is all shifters, which she is not.
Kai is a bodyguard to the royalty. He has been trained all of his life. He knows it is against the rules to fall in love and be with any member of the royal house. But when he meets Signy he doesn't want to obey the rules anymore. The only problem is that someone is trying to kill or destroy every member of the family.
Can this couple ever be together?
I loved the intrigue and excitement that is written into this story. Makes me want to find my own bodyguard.

Good intro to a new to me Zoe Chant series
I am not usually into "princess" stories, but Signy is not your normal princess. Raised as an American, she doesn't even know that she is a princess until a big black car is parked outside her duplex! Kai is one of the Royal Guards who are there to greet her and tell her that her grandfather the king would like to see her! Talk about a surprise! But one look at Kai and she realizes that they are mates. Getting permission for a royal guard to marry the princess is easier said than done unfortunately.
The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character oriented storyline with some steamy scenes and some action. The characters are vibrant and endearing. Enjoy this series set in the world with Zoe's Fire and Rescue series and Shifting Sands Resort series.

** Spolier Alert**
3.5 stars on this one. I liked this story because I liked the Signy recognized Kai as her mate and was not fooled by Otto. Even though she was thrown into a crazy situation she used common sense and trusted her instincts. She also was able to use her own sense to know who to trust and who to be near to use caution. In a lot of these books the women tend to just be blinded and guided by the bad guys until it's too late, even when they have misgivings or suspicions. I also liked that Otto's nephew was not in on the plot and neither was Gregor. Cute short fast read that I'd reccomend to anyone who enjoys shifters.

A fun fluffy read, if anything hampered by its adherance to its genre, as I would have loved to see the plot expanded, and a little less emphasis on the whole "possessive mate" thing.
That being said, the relationship between Signy and Kai was refreshing - they communicated well, solved problems together, and seemed to respect each other. I liked that Signy was competent and sensible, and only wish that her major "win" over the antagonists had been given more detail and more of a statisfactory confrontation.
I'm not rushing out to read the other books in the series, but I enjoyed this one for a light read.

I wonder if that asshole killed her father and uncle just so he can get what he wanted since he was trying 2 hurt the king. When that asshole Otto 1st showed up she had every rt 2 fear and b dad about her dad and didn't trust him cause of how he acted toward her and the undermining he did 2 show she was unfit but when she ran away and her guard followed her 2 keep her safe they both realized they were mates. It's sad that a few innocents were hurt and used cause of lies from a traitor. But I'm glad that her mom showed up and that her grandfather the king was getting back on his feet and everything would b good since she finally got her mate 4 life now.

Then plots and mates and love and protocol and picking a suitor because a human can't rule shifters. And That's where the plot thickens.

For such a horrendously over sappy book, the sex scene was very much like a bored housewife making noises not even caring if they aren't convincing her husband who has never touched her clitoris. Lots of "oh yes"'s. The prose didn't work me. I'm a hopeless romantic but it was uncomfortably sappy in a way that felt very fake. Even with fated mate books I cannot handle one stranger calling the other dearest 🤢

Brilliant Series

Really liked this book!
This is a new to me author that I have found I really have come to enjoy. Her shifter characters are really interesting. The storyline is unusual, and the worlds are creative. I picked this book to try because of the audio option, so glad I did, and have purchased the second book already!

So fun! Tropey and fluffy; you know what's going to happen and it delivers exactly what you want. I really enjoyed the world building in this series, too. A quick light read that is nonetheless emotionally satisfying. It's the warm chocolate chip cookie of romance books.
Bonus: a plus-size heroine without all the weird body commentary so common in "BBW" romances.

I have been on a shifter binge and that is where I found Zoe. I have enjoyed many of her books since then and am working my way through them. There are some minor editing issues in her early books but not enough to give up reading them.
With many variety of shifters who are hot and true mates I am sure you will enjoy them as much as me.

The ending is not a cliffhanger but is baited enough for the reader to want to read the next installment of the series. I wonder if I’m correct in thinking that I have an idea of who the next mated couple are.

A well- crafted story and plotline that capture the reader's interest... and characters that are sweet but not saccharine, feisty but not edgy. A fun, romantic read that will leave feel good vibes for hours. The sex is sexy, but not pornographic, and just enough to satisfy. Highly recommended!

Fabulous book! I loved the characters and the world and the way they were woven together. Just the right amount of action, passion and love - and loads of fun shifter details to the world. Loved all the Shifter Kingdom books, still a huge Zoe Chant fan.

I loved this book. It was a quick easy read and it was well written. I loved the characters and I can't wait to read the next book. This one is worth your time and effort. I know when I get a Zoe Chant book it will be a story worth reading. I encourage you to get this one.

I really enjoyed the storyline, great chemistry between Signy and Kai. There was intrigue, drama, suspense, treachery and unrequited love. I would definitely recommend this series.

One of the best shifter novels out there.
Finding out you a lions fated mate was quite a shock to Signy as well as to Kai who thought he was escorting her to her grandfather.
