The Case of the Brokenhearted Bulldog
Suzy and Josie, owners of the Thousand Islands Doggy Inn, are attending an end-of-summer party and about to receive a sizeable charitable gift from one of their good friends, a local businessman with a love of dogs and a reputation with the ladies. A newly built yacht about to embark on a trip to Florida via the Inland Waterway is one of the party highlights, but when the engineer is killed, and Jackson, the Clay Bay Chief of Police, ends up in critical condition, the yacht becomes the focal point of the ensuing murder investigation.
In addition to trying to solve the murder, Suzy and Josie are forced to deal with a variety of other problems and distractions. Jackson’s bulldog, Sluggo, is despondent and not eating. And as Jackson fights for his life and attempts to recover from the attack, Suzy’s mom begins a new relationship she believes has the potential to go the distance. And if that weren’t enough, when Chef Claire threatens to take a new job out of state, putting a serious damper on the quality of food served at the house, Suzy and Josie are pushed to their limits.

Things are good for the sleuths attending an end of summer party, but then there's a murder.

5 stars or maybe even more! I am really glad to be revisiting the Thousand Island area, and more to the point the Doggy Inn, these books make me wish I lived around the corner and could visit on a regular basis.
The book opens with Chef Claire hoping to leave for warmer climes (and Suzy and Josie, the latter in particular hoping to get her to stay), there is also a fund raiser happening for the Doggy Inn, with the main prize being a boat, donated by a local, top of the range, boat builder (who has also brought along his latest boat which is about to be sailed down to Florida), whilst John (the boat builder) is presenting a rather large cheque (he matched the amount raised from the auction) there is a muffled scream and Jackson (the local Police Officer) heads off to investigate, a few minutes later there is the sound of a dog in distress and Suzy, Josie and various others head off to find out what has happened. They find Sluggo, Jackson's Bulldog, howling, Jackson has been attacked and there is a dead body as well!
With Jackson on the sick list, Sluggo refusing to eat (and Josie as the local Vet can normally help any animal and even she can't get his to eat even a treat) Suzy and Josie step up and start to figure out what on earth happened. Oh and they still need to keep Chef Claire around and just to add stuff into the mix work out what is going on with Suzy's mother!

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery set up near the coast of Canada off the St. Lawrence river. It had a dog rescue no kill shelter and its two owners as the main set of characters - Suzy and Josie. They like to snoop into local murders too. Add to that a Chief of Police Jackson as one of their friends. In this story, two people are murdered and Jackson is close to death. Suzy and Josie do some poking around and Suzy figures out what happened. Really fun story with dogs and drugs.

As with the first book, the mystery was solid and the friendship between Josie and Suzy are what makes this series great. Two books in though, and I worry that the same jokes and situations will keep arising, about Josie being beautiful and able to eat anything. I think the line "I could eat' features about ten times and actually finishes at least two chapters. We get the point already.
Still though, I liked the reasoning behind the murders and which characters were behind it. I want to see more of these characters, and of course the dogs are gorgeous and counteract anything I disliked. I might have a break from the series and return to it later though, we'll see.

What happens when an old family friend does something does something so heinous and another is injured as a result. Suzy and Josie are up to their usual snooping as they determine who done it with shocking results. Once again the mystery is good, the humor is great and you'll fall in love with the dogs!

This is a great listen while doing mindless tasks! Vanessa Daniels has the perky hyperactive sleuths down to a science and gives personality to the other interesting characters. It's a good cosy complete with twists, red herrings, and misdirection plus a dog boarding service in the beautiful Thousand Island region of Ontario (hockey!). Loved it!

This is a light reading mystery, nothing too complicated. I like the fact that the main characters all remain the same from the previous books so it feels like you already know them.

Better Clues to Follow
Maybe I'm getting better at seeing the clues? Or more likely, the author made them easier to see? Anyway, I enjoyed this book more than the previous ones. I like being able to solve a couple of pieces of the mysteries!

Very good
The story, characters, and setting of this book are wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is better than the first, and I expect each book will be better in the series. It was a quick, entertaining book. What more could you want?

Cute series with two bickering (affectionately) best friends who co own a vet clinic and doggie grooming day care adoption service in NY Thousand Islands region. Passes the Bechdel test. Good mystery, well plotted.

I love dog mysteries, even though at times they are a lot dorky, I still like them and they are an easy read that keeps your attention to the end.

BR Snows Thousand Islands Doggy Inn Mystery series is a great fun read. Two ladies own the Doggy Inn, one is a vet who can't seem to get enough to eat! Some of the rescue dogs, end up staying forever, I love that Suzy takes such good care of the dogs, she loves everyone of them. The mystery is someone is killed on a yacht, and Suzy and Josie help solve the murder, Chef Claire is going thru a crisis, But thank goodness it ends well. Such enjoyable light reading.

A Story That Taps Into The Lore Of The 1000 Islands

I like this series. The one thing the author does which is distracting is constantly using "she said" "he said" for every speaker. It is very distracting. The reader/listener is smart enough to follow the conversation.

Five star
This is a highly entertaining series. Suzy and Josie fun the Doggy Inn on a full time basis and play the role of South on a off time basis. The books are loaded with loveable dogs and a large cast of friends and family. Well written and well edited.
