Biography
My name is Ruby Moone and I love books. All kinds of books. My weakness is for romance, and that can be any kind, but I am particularly fond of historical and paranormal. I decided to write gay romance after reading some fantastic books and falling in love with the genre, so am really thrilled to have my work published here. The day job takes up a lot of my time, but every other spare moment finds me writing or reading. I live in the north west of England with my husband who thinks that I live in two worlds. The real world and in the world in my head...he probably has a point!

Very sexy and sweet, with a bit of mystery and danger; I just wish the editing had been consistent and the relationship had developed more organically.

Harry literally shows up on Charlie's doorstep, and a few hours later they're in love.

Also, an epilogue set seven days later isn't really an epilogue, particularly when not all problems are resolved.

This is the third book I have read by Ms. Moone and so far she is 3 for 3. This sweet, sexy historical romance was just lovely. The author did an amazing job of not just telling a wonderful story in this novella but also crafted two detailed and unforgetable main characters. I LOVED it!

Captain Charles Farrington has settled for the life of lonely man when a knock on his door on Christmas Eve brings a handsome young man running from trouble into his door. Harry Valentine knows that if he tells Charles about his secret, he will bring danger to his angel’s house and he’s not sure if there is a future in them afterwards.

I liked both men okay – Charles for opening his house to save a man in need, and Harry for getting into trouble because he also tries to save another young man. Both are noble in their own way. I would prefer for the resolution to be neater because I thought that the villain didn’t get what he deserved. But at least Harry finally gets his happy end with Charles.

Oh, and I really could do less with the numerous times Harry calling Charles “my angel”. Sorry, I’m not into too many occasions of endearments being used *shrugs*

While I wasn’t in favor for the short timeline for these two men to fall in love (I think it only happens within a day or two) but in the core of it The Wrong Kind of Angel is a sweet heartwarming story that fit the mold of holiday spirit.

This is a Christmas theme historical m/m with a small dash of suspense. Charlie is an ex-soldier, planning to spend a quiet Christmas Eve alone with his helper being away for the festive season. What he didn't expect is to find a young man practically collapse at his front door and disrupt his lonely holiday season.

Harry is on the run and the last thing he expect is getting help from a gentleman. Charlie is definitely an angel incarnated, not only offering help and care, but offering him solace as well.

This is pretty short, even for a novella standard and the romance progression is really fast. On the first day of their meeting, they started from not knowing whether are the other person gay to getting down and dirty in front of the fire place. The author did gave a good back story for each other the characters and instill a little bit of suspense and danger to the plot. Overall, a short read with pretty decent plot, but didn't get me emotionally invested.

It was a treat for me to find a historical Christmas story amongst this year’s “harvest”, a nice variation for someone always “greedy” for more holiday spirit in any setting. And what a sweet tale ‘The Wrong Kind of Angel’ turned out to be! At first I thought the title a little odd, but that only made me more curious to read the story. As it turns out, the title perfectly summarizes the way Charles, one of the main characters, thinks of himself when he rescues a half-frozen man who turns up on his doorstep on Christmas Eve in 1817, calling Charles “his angel”.

As far as Charles is concerned, nothing could be further from the truth. He lost his family when he was only ten, he became a soldier in the Napoleonic wars and lost more than one man under his command to the enemy, and he is a sodomite – not that anyone knows – who would be imprisoned or worse if anyone found out. Yep, Charles believes he is “the wrong kind of angel” to be saving anyone.

Harry, the fugitive who barley manages to walk into Charles’s house before he collapses, has a different view. To him, a boy lured into prostitution, abused, and now on the run from the crooked owner of the brothel, Charles is a godsend. Charles feeds him, gives him new clothes, and offers a soft bed for the night. The next morning the former soldier not only ably dispatches the three henchmen who come after Harry, but also offers to help find Julian, the twelve-year-old boy Harry is trying to rescue from the brothel owner’s clutches. As far as Harry is concerned, that means Charles is “the right kind of angel” for sure!

While there is plenty of suspense around Harry’s background and fate, a lot of the story focuses on Charles. He is lonely and has resigned himself to his fate, yet when Harry appears, he seems to come to life again. They can never live as a couple, not out in the open in the early nineteenth century, but the idea of finding a way to have them share their lives motivates Charles to figure out a way to make it happen. Both men are clearly meant to be together, and I was rooting for them from the moment they met.

If you’re looking for a fairy-tale-like Christmas story set in the past, if you think two men who fall in love deserve to share their lives no matter what society thinks, and if you’re looking for a read with mystery, a suspenseful search, and a very happy ending, then you will probably like this delightful novella.

Charles Farrington, retired army officer, has resigned himself to being alone, his predilections not being accepted as normal in his place or time.

He is settled in on a stormy Christmas Eve with a blazing fire, food left by his housekeeper and the blanket of snow over his cottage in North Yorkshire. Charles is dreaming of having a special man to share the festivities and his home, when, as if he conjured the man himself, there was banging at the door. On opening it, Charles sees the most beautiful man he has ever seen, frozen almost to death and soaked through, but beautiful nonetheless.

Henry Wilson (calling himself Harry Valentine) has endured many ordeals, the most recent of which brings him to Charles’ door. He is so close to dying of cold that he dreams a beautiful angel who kisses him with passion and saves him from the storm. As Henry wakes to see Charles is very real and carries a tray of food, Henry fears the angel will beat him for the kiss, but is shocked to see lust and want on the lovely man’s face.

The story leaps on from here at a good pace, it’s a fast and satisfying read, with easy to accept historical details even if the reader doesn’t often engage in historical MM romance. It’s not a trope I look for often but this one is highly enjoyable!

Harry starts off his engagement with Charles telling one lie after another, but as the heat flares between them, and Harry’s past arrives on Charles’ threshold, the truths come out thick and fast. Charles is a delightful hero to Harry and quickly gets embroiled, much to Harry’s delight, Charles is his angel.

***Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie by the author/publisher for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion, a review was not a requirement.***

One of my first loves back when I started reading romances was historicals, so when I manage to get my hands on an MM one, it's like Christmas for me. Thankfully, this book didn't disappoint. Ruby Moone is a new author to me but I'll keep my eye open for her books from now on.

Captain Charles Farrington is a lonely man and he's accepted that due to his, ahem, proclivities, he'll most likely remain that way until he dies. Until a fateful Christmas Eve when a handsome stranger knocks at his door, half-frozen up and calling him an angel, before kissing Charles and fainting.

Harry Valentine is on the run and even if he'd love to remain with Charles, there's no way his handsome angel will want him anywhere near him once he learns Harry's secrets, is there?

This book was instalove at its best, but somehow it worked for this story. Charlie was such a sweet man, even if depression and guilt plagued him after losing his parents and sister when he was 10 and then losing his men when he served. He was supportive, non-judgmental and protective to a fault. It was a delight to see him defending first Harry and then Harry and Julian so effectively. Harry was younger than Charlie, but sometimes, he seemed the more mature of the two, perhaps because of all he'd gone through at his age. He was adorable in his awe of Charlie and I just loved them together. They had great chemistry and fit well together, despite the difference in their backgrounds.

Overall, this was a fantastic book, Ruby Moone transported me to 1817, she did a great job with the characterization and the writing to add to the experience and she gave us two very lovable characters that I couldn't help wish would get their HEA. Very recommendable!

(This review is for all four titles in Regency Rogues Box Set, in which this tale appears)

A Bounty of Rogues & Lovers

This anthology strings together two short stories and two novellas, the latter two interrelated as to plot and characters. You can buy them separately, but I thoroughly enjoyed working my way through this anthology of 19th Century England because all four books featured similar MC's: A member of the gentry (or aristocracy) and a commoner meet accidently and fall in love despite class and emotional differences.

In "Fallen" and "The Heat of the Moment," we have two couplings which are seemingly too serendipitous and chancy but turn out to be beautifully developed within a short time-span of narrative. In the former retired army Major Oliver and his former army subordinate Daniel--how they reconnect, and find love. In the latter you just had to imagine what would have happened if Robert was less of a free spirit to Milo's despairing, bitter soul. Their romance was life affirming and delicious.

"The Wrong Kind of Angel" and "Trapped" are exceptionally well developed with a bounty of supporting characters who aid or try to dispose of Charles and Harry in the former and Tristan and Sam in the latter. These two have intricate plots, some violence, a lot of adventure and in both Harry and Sam two lower middle class individuals with far more class and humility than most of the rest of their aristocratic elders or peers--and certainly more than the dastardly individuals who plot deeds against them.

Truly wonderful tour-de-force by an author I will continue to follow. Bravo!

I am a huge fan of holiday books and I love historicals. So bonus excitement on this one, as it is both. Charles is a retired soldier who lives alone. He “…had long ago resigned himself to the fact that his deviant nature meant he was destined to be alone.” But that isn’t what he wants. He longs for someone to be with, wake up with, someone to love. He is lucky in that he has a wonderful couple who cook and take care of the livestock for him, and they leave a ton of food when they leave Christmas Eve. He wants them to spend time with their family until after Boxing Day, because Charles is a gentle, kind person.
A snowstorm makes the place cozy until a nearly frozen young man appears at the door. A young man who, just before passing out, thanks Charles and then kisses him. Charles is at once stunned, panicked and in a tizzy over how to care for the man, Harry. This is how Charles becomes Harry’s angel, even as he repeatedly denies he can be one and warns Harry not to rely on him. Harry starts off with a lie about what is happening because of course Charles will throw him to the wolves if he hears the truth.
The two are snowed in, though Harry is adamant that he needs to leave as soon as possible. As they get physical, they know it can only be that. But that’s easier said than done. Charlie is not lonely for this Christmas and Harry makes him happy. I loved both of these men and my heart hurt for the things they went through. Harry may have something chasing him now, but Charles has memories, the past, that chase him.
While it’s a bit of an insta-love, it is also historical, where being lucky enough to meet someone of your own sex to love was incredibly difficult. I had no trouble with the time frame, particularly when Charles offers to help Harry find a place in Scarsborough, “I thought it was important you have a choice. A genuine choice.” That not only made me love Charles that much more, but also made me feel they had both thought out what they were feeling.
Julian, you want to hug him and love him and immediately crush anyone who would hurt him. Luckily, there is Charles. “He looked up at Charlie, seeing him in a new light…” Let’s just say that quiet, unassuming Charles is one bad motherf*cker.
I loved this story, the flow of it, the wondering who is Julian, what is Harry hiding and will Charles end up happy? The historical feel was real and the fact that it was a holiday just made it even better. Highly recommended and going on my reread list.

This is the first book of Ms. Moore's I've read and I enjoyed it. It was a historical, sweet and spicy romance with a hero to save the day.

Charles is so alone. He has no reason to celebrate, so on Christmas Eve, he is alone, doing normal everyday things. All the while, Charles is dreaming of someone who will stay with him and love him. His housekeeper and groom want him to settle down with a woman and get married but Charles is finding his tastes lie elsewhere. As he doses off in front of the fire, a noise at his door wakes him. He braves the cold to open the door where he finds a dark haired, dark eyed man of his dreams completely soaked to the bone. Has someone answered his prayers?

Both Charles and Harry melt my heart in this story. In a time where men being with men is strictly forbidden, both men crave the touch and love of another. Both men are so lonely. Charles has been alone most of his life, and Harry, although he has been with others, has never had true love's touch. I don't know about anyone else, but I can relate to both of these characters. Harry is so desperate to escape his past and start over that he is afraid Charles wouldn't want him. They both want love and companionship and someone to just hold them and make it all better. Plus sometimes you just need a hero and Charles is that for Harry. Harry's past comes back for him and Charles protects him and helps solve his problem.

On top of that, the electricity between these two is really combustible. From just a look both men go up in flames and it is erotic. They crave each other and each touch is like fire. The sex is amazing and makes you want to read it over again, at least for me.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it. It's a short, sweet little Christmas story with some spice and lot of love. Charles helps Harry save the day and you will fall in love with both of them and root for them to be together to be what each other needs.

Seeking Sanctuary, Finding Love!

Once upon a time, a beautiful troubled boy Harry meets the handsome Captain “Charlie” Farrington and a love story begins. This short historical Christmassy tale includes kissing, shooting, a child to rescue and lots of cake eating is perfection. Warning: this story can be read at any time, will result in smiles.

This was such a sweet book! A lovely Christmas treat :D I really liked all the characters, the plot was well constructed and the steamy bits just the right amount of hotness and tenderness. I whizzed through it in a single evening, and it kept out the cold nicely :) Definitely recommend!

A quick Christmas read, set over a period of not much more than 24 hours.
Set in early 1800’s, the social mores of the time mean Charles is quite lonely, facing a self enforced single life. His resignation was quite profound and it did make me think about how gay men of the time could cope.
Harry is definitely a man with a story. I wasn’t too bothered by the speed of them getting together - the reason of taking chances when presented felt kind of right.
This was a nice short - I can only imagine the heart wrenching if it were full length! Some licence taken with plot hangers being left coz of short format but I did like.

I liked this story and would read something by this author again. I am writing a review not because I have anything profound to say, but because I noticed there weren't many reviews here.

It needs a little more character development, I think, although it works pretty well as a holiday short story. Both characters are easy to sympathize with: Charlie is brave and secretly longs to be needed, while Harry badly needs someone to save him. Charlie is also desperately lonely, and Harry has some doubts about his self-worth, a combination which makes the sex scenes very emotional.

The story has a good amount of atmosphere, which I always enjoy in historical romances. I could easily imagine the settings - Charlie's house, the carriage ride, and the town they travel to. I loved all the detailed descriptions.

I am a major fan of family-of-choice themes, so I really liked the solid and believable HEA.

This was really, really sweet!

QUICK THOUGHTS

-- Quick easy read -- Historical -- holiday/Christmas -- ex-Military man/prostitute pairing -- age difference (10 years) -- insta everything -- forced proximity -- snow storm -- secrets -- drama -- love at a time when it was illegal -- really sweet moments -- making of a family -- made me smile -- a kind of prequel to Trapped (both can be read as stand-alones and in any order IMO) -- loved the MCs... Charlie & Harry -- wish there was more -- short/less than 75 pages -- own in the Regency Rogues Box Set

This is a short story with perfect pacing, perfect balance of action and feelings. Every word had its place, and each and every act of the main characters were perfectly enacted, their timing impeccable. The antagonist and negative characters were a bit dull and their leader seemed to be vicious and ill-intentioned only for the hell of it. But, it worked. I perfectly got the impression of someone never confronted with his evil actions, never punished for any suffering he had caused to others.

My favorite character was Charles with his unfaltering cool-headedness, recollected nature and efficiency all due to his military background. He was the one who came up with the plan to save both Harry and the boy and lose their pursuers. And despite all this level-headedness, he was the insecure one needing reassurance that he could be loved and deserved to be loved.

So based on all of the above, this book was a perfect 5 stars read for me.
