Amnesium

Rate this book
“I remember nothing.”
A man robotically repeats those words as he’s rescued from a flooded street. He offers a mere glimpse of what science has been up to while we weren’t looking.
But four very different people are willing to risk their lives to peer more closely.
Pellen, Radcliffe, Irena, and Shamus may span the ideological spectrum, but they’ll need to put their differences aside as they adventure together into the wilds of central Oregon to find the secrets hidden there.
What is the Amnesium? Is it something we should fear, or celebrate?

Andrew is a software engineer and author whose mission is to live in a society that is empathetic and connected. That mission has threaded through his past work at Facebook, as well as his current work at Oculus VR and his book, Amnesium.

He wrote Amnesium, in part, as a reaction the heavily partisan and politicized national discourse in America today. He drew up several interesting, far-flung characters who would be ideologically opposed, gave them a gripping situation that brought them together, and saw what happened.

Virtual Reality also has the potential to bring far-flung people together in deep, surprising ways. Enabling people to have consistently good experiences with strangers online, and in some cases form lasting connections with them, is one of the biggest challenges facing the VR industry. He’s excited to be pursuing this goal at Oculus VR.

He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he hones his storytelling skills playing pen-and-paper role-playing games. You can follow him at www.facebook.com/AndrewHoskinsAuthor.

One of the more intellectual thrillers I've read. There's a strong emphasis on getting the reader to consider their own worldview as they go by showing how the characters with their own differing philosophies respond to the various situations they find themselves in.

This is a smart, contemporary mystery, action-packed and peopled with multilayered characters who put aside their ideological differences to solve a puzzle that has far reaching consequences in the scientific community. As this unlikely fellowship of heroes works together to solve a mystery, they also must make tough decisions about scientific research and whether the ends, no matter how beneficial to society at large, justify using morally questionable means to achieve them. From the first page to the last, Amnesium makes for an exciting, thought provoking read!

It is a story told from different points of view, this enables the reader to know more about each character feelings and thoughts. I found a lot of abbreviations which really were annoying to me and were always distracting and altering the harmony of the story. The ordinary reader may found a hard time understanding the scientific terms in the story however, this will be interesting to those who familiar with these types of knowledge.
