All Amber Johnson wanted was to be normal. Go to a normal school. Maybe meet a nice boy. The Last thing she expected was to be the pretend girlfriend of Jason Turner.
Jason needs a pretend girlfriend to keep the high school drama as far away as possible. Amber Johnson needs the social acceptance being Jason’s girlfriend would give her.
It’s only for a few weeks. Just long enough to get everyone to back off. Amber quickly learns though. There is nothing worse than pretending to be in love with someone you already love.
I wish that I had a ton of good things to say about this book, but I really don't. I enjoy cute and sweet contemporary novels, and even enjoy quite a few young adult novels. But this one was so immature and flat that I rolled my eyes through most of the story. It was not original, which would not bother me if it were done well but the writing was so poor that the author even got Amber's name wrong twice (called her Amanda once and Amada the second time). There were several other grammatical errors that were distracting as well. I can't complain too much because I got this for free on Amazon but I honestly don't recommend picking up this book. The characters weren't developed well and were so stereotypical and unrealistic. Their internal dialogue was young and at oftentimes, boring. And don't even get me started on the insta-love. Your time would be better spent on anything other than this book.
My Favorite Love is full of delightful events and sweet moments between the characters that will definitely melt your hearts. It is a light read and very well-written, plus you can feel the chemistry between the main characters chapter by chapter. If I were to complain of one thing, it's that it was just too short.
But I am very glad that this is a series of standalones with The Lakeland Boys – but hopefully we can still read about glimpses of Jason and Amber in the next books.
The new girl and the golden boy in a pretend relationship. Another adorable read for the teens!
This was a cute and sweet read. Amber Johnson has been living in New York City with her Columbia University Professor mother and Mystery Author father. She has been homeschooled. She decides she wants to go to a normal school and be normal for a change so her parents uproot all of them and they move to a small town in Washington state. She moves next door to Marla and Jason Turner and their parents. Jason and his best friends Tank, Nick, and Luke are popular and great looking guys. Jason's great looking, the Star Quarterback, and women just flock to him.
Amber's quite intelligent and her parents have had her on a trajectory to go to college at Harvard. She's already been offered to get in but her parents want her to wait since she's still pretty naive. She was hoping that she could just go to a school in NYC but her parents want her to experience other things and places. She's instantly attracted and interested in Jason but she's not want to fall all over herself for a guy or anyone. She thinks Jason is crazy for wanting to have a "fake" relationship.
Jason's so busy and has decided he doesn't want to date his senior year of high school. He's got school, football practice, and sometimes working for his father so he doesn't have much time for anything else. The school's 3 Queen Bee's Cindy, Sheryl, and Julie all want Jason to choose them to go out with and they think it's their right. From the first time he lays eyes on Amber, he's attracted and interested but doesn't want the complications. So he comes up with an idea for Amber to be his "fake" girlfriend which will get all the other girls to leave him alone. He didn't expect to actually care about her and for her to be stuck in his head.
Cute short story. You have new girl who wants to fit in, meets boy who needs to have the school girls back off by having a fake girlfriend. They agree to pretend only to fall for each other in the end.
I wanted to love it. The story was short, sweet, and full of angst. But the author must have forgotten to reread for continuity or not had a proof reader. There was 3 or more times the author changed or misspelled the girls name. If it was proofread it would have been a 4 star.
Perfect for those who enjoy the fake relationships that of course turn into the real thing. Cute and enjoyable. Contains minor language but otherwise clean.
Great story line but I needed more. The description intrigued me but I felt that the plot just went too fast and didn't have time to grow. Still a good read
What!? I couldn't believe the ending of this book!!! All was well, I was getting all the drama: He loves me or is it all pretend, it is mostly pretend, but Oh! I am in love with him (tears, sigh, tears!)
Then reality check: I can't have a serious love; I'm only staying here 2 years then I am gone to Harvard to study something I'm not happy with (I get the gist of this), but we can't not keep on thinking of this when we can day dream about love.
So the end was all mushy love!!! without all the other issues that were working against it, what about the future, college, the reality check, etc.
So yes, this book was cute, but the author calls the main character by the wrong name (her name is Amber, but she is accidentally called Amanda once). After that, I just couldn't read anymore.
