4 - "Speed dating... with cake!" Stars!

I seem to be gravitating to the world of chick-lit a lot in my reading preferences lately, and in doing so am noticing the trend for the heroine of the story to be the owner of a coffee shop or café type establishment, The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts sticks wholly to that trend, and like many of its predecessors, it was a really enjoyable read.

Maddie Lamingon is our heroine in question this time, and while she loves her little eatery, being on the outskirts of Manchester and tucked down a little known side street, attracting enough custom is proving to be the main problem in keeping her lifelong dream a reality.

"I’m not sure speed dating and teashops go together…"

Desperate measures call for even more desperate ideas, but as it turns out the dating with cake idea seems to have a lot of merit, especially when the local press get a sniff of the story, our Maddie goes from almost on the uppers to baking sensation in the time it takes to cook and ice a batch of cupcakes.

"You’ll laugh about this one day."

Add in a great cast of diverse secondary characters, a little sprinkle of romance, a few laughs, crossed wires and lots and lots of yummy cakes (I have been hunting out Raspberry cheesecake brownie recipes all afternoon) and this was a light and enjoyable read. Low on drama and high on entertainment in its characters and the story being told.

Well worth a look if you are in the market for a stress-free, low-calorie, high one the cake descriptives read!

My teeth hurts with so much sweetness (pun totally intended).
I usually avoid reading such romances but after ditching three books in one day, this one felt just about right.
Glad I didn't write this off. By the time I finished it, i was actually smiling...

Maddie owns a teashop on Sweet Street, but her business isn't going very well and if things don't pick up, she might have to close the shop and all she has worked so hard for will be gone. When her father and a customer Birdie become friends over an apple crumble, she gets an idea to start a new service-speed dating with cakes. Birdie's son Caleb comes to help Maddie as well. Maddie's friends, Caleb and cakes make the perfect combination to save the gorgeous cafe and along the way the girls will find happiness in their personal life as well. Is Maddie willing to give it a go after a horrific break up?

It's my favorite book by the author, it made me nod in agreement, shake my head at unbelievable moments or laugh out loud at totally funny scenes. All the descriptions about the sweets made me really want to bake something, I haven't tried to make an apple crumble yet, but after reading this book, I just have to! It was a very enjoyable feel good read.

Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins Uk and Jennifer Joyce for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance reader copy of this book.

You can find my review on both Goodreads and Amazon. On Goodreads from today under Karen Whittard and on Amazon under k.e.whittard from publication date.

Lovely, lovely, lovely read. Perfect getaway reading. A must buy, must read for fans of chick lit, romance, culinary reads, and anyone who likes sweet and heartwarming reads. Perfect.

I have massive craving now for cake. Mainly homemade apple pie. Make sure you have some tasty snacks available while reading this one.

Maddie owns a cafe. Which has wonderful eccentric loyal customers. However they are a small number a mear handful of them. Who Maddie loves dearly. However they aren't quite enough to keep her gorgeous little cafe going. Meaning her dreams are falling down around her.

With a sinking heart Maddie has to think of something fast to keep her dreams alive.

When serving apple pie to her father and one of her faithful customer Birdie. Maddie sees how it brings them closer together. Insperation grabs Maddie. Speed dating and cake eating. What a perfect combination. Also when needing help with this venture dashing Caleb offers his serves is there a romance a sprinkling for Maddie too?

I love all the characters in this book. They all have their own quirky personalities and they all stand out individually on their own. You will take them into your heart.

This book is uplifting and had me laughing and smiling from ear to ear. I loved it.

Happy reading everyone

This is one of those books that entices you with a really pretty cover and draws you in with delicious sounding desserts with the most heartwarming set of characters and the quaintest sounding teashop. It's ideal for curling up with on a cold afternoon with your very own cup of tea. You'd better get some delicious cakes in before you start reading because you won't want to be torn away from the book!

Maddie has a tea shop on Sweet Street which is off the main high street throughfare and they are struggling to get customers through the door despite the talented bakers producing the most delicious sounding cakes and puddings. I wish I lived near Sweet Street- but to be honest it's probably best that I only found it in the most wonderful fantasy world!

The characters are all wonderful and you are willing them to do well, find love and enjoy their friendships. The parade of shops sound like a nice place to wander down and when Maddie settles on a way to try and attract new customers you are drawn into the planning and imagining the event. Romance is a lovely element throughout the book- even for the older generation.

Maddie's dad has an allotment and you can just breathe in the fresh air and imagine the produce. The competitiveness between the gardeners is fierce!

You really will want to share this book with your best friends- ideal birthday pressies for the year ahead. It's such a feel good, heartwarming story and I can't wait to read more by Jennifer Joyce.

For fans of Jenny Colgan and the Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend comes a tale best enjoyed with warm tea and cozy socks. A whimsical small-town yarn spun with colourful characters and an inviting voice.

A whiff of romance balances the development of a young woman who is finding herself and stable footing amidst a cast of eccentrics.

What do you get when you combine speed dating and cake? Apparently, a wildly successful formula for saving your teashop. At least, that was Maddie’s experience in A Little Teashop of Broken Hearts. While I don’t buy that this would have worked in real life, it made for a great story here, and since I also enjoyed the development of the characters’ relationships, I gave this book four stars.

The first bit of the book reads more like standard chick lit than romance. It’s about a struggling teashop and its newly(ish) single owner, Maddie. There’s a lot of dwelling on her failed past relationship and the financial issues of the shop. This helps us get to know Maddie, though, and to understand her better. I didn’t mind it since this backstory wasn’t presented through careful introspection, but rather flashback scenes. I liked getting to know Maddie’s friends in this part, too, and I think that focusing on something other than romance really helps make this story compelling.

Later on, though, the slow-to-start relationships between Maddie and Caleb and also Mags and Owen are believable and appropriately paced, something that’s missing in many romance novels. I liked that the characters didn’t fall in love at first sight and decide to get married after what seemed like five minutes.

This book was a light read and it definitely satisfied the urge to read something romantic, but it had a real story besides the romance, which is one of the things that made it particularly enjoyable. Even if you don’t like romance novels, you might like this, since it’s more chick lit than romance for the most part.

As for me, I definitely enjoyed reading this and I’m glad I was able to read it in between some heavier books. I recommend giving it a try if you like chick lit and/or romance.

As you can tell from the title, The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts is all about tea, cake and love. The story starts with a broken heart, Maddie's, who after breaking it up with her fiancé decides to finally open her own teashop. The problem is that nobody has noticed it so far so her customers are really scarce.

What I liked about this story is that it had a very original idea behind the main plot: speed dating with cake. I especially liked the first idea Maddie had, to match people according to their cake choices. But the idea was not as well executed as I first hoped. The story was quite slow, with not many things happening at first, except the fact that the teashop was in trouble. Then the idea of speed dating came up and again, there was a lot of talking but not a lot of action and when it finally happened, it was done and dusted quite quickly.

I was also a bit in two minds about the characters. Some of them I really liked, like Maddie, Mags or Caleb but then there were a few characters that got a lot of mentions in the story but nothing really happened with them, like the couple that worked next door, George and Rehana or Maddie's ex-best friend. I think there was no need to add them, as there were enough main characters with their own stories and problems.

This doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy reading this book. It actually made me smile a lot and it's quite an easy read to enjoy this summer. Especially if you enjoy cake and sweet treats as it's full of ideas and descriptions that had my mouth watering the whole time. I'm sure I'll try my hand at baking more than one of the treats mentioned.

Having now finished reading The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts, I have just realised how hungry a large amount of the book has made me. There are so many mentions of delicious cakes being described, that I can only suggest you have some snacks ready, while you eat, as I suddenly have a large craving for cake, or maybe some of Maddie's apple crumble given her father, and also regular customer Birdie seem to love it so much!

Or maybe I should eat some of the little servings of cakes that Maddie serves, during the concept that she really hopes will put The Sweet Street Teashop on the map - speed dating and cake! Maddie's tea-shop is wonderful and it has a whole set regular customers, with various quirks.

There is Robbie who only ever wants Banana milkshakes, the builder who clearly fancies Mags who works alongside Maddie, Birdie who has a gorgeous son, Caleb, and very cute granddaughter Cara, there is also Nicky who is Maddie's best friend and works in the salon on Sweet Street, Neal, who is Caleb's best friend who may be interested in one of the women too, amongst others.

However Maddie's small cast of regular customers, aren't enough to turn a profit at the teashop, hence her need to come up with the dating idea.

There are so many scenes that just brought a large smile to my face, including a certain discussion about underpants with Caleb, when you get there I 'm sure you will agree! She occasionally speaks without quite thinking how it may sound, and thus has a slight foot in mouth problem! Regardless she is loveable and just trying to do her hardest for the employees, and be the best friend she can be, while being sworn off love.

With its delectable combination of cake, friendship, heartbreak, entertaining characters and just a whole lot of fun, written in an easy to read style, The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts is a highly enjoyable story.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this copy of the book which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Maddie's a first class baker but lacks in business skills. Her teashop is full of sweet treats, on a lovely lane and is in danger of being shut if she can't come up with a way to turn a profit. In addition to her work woes, she's also still bruised from a very bad engagement break up, a year and a half ago. It was a little slow getting off the ground but it picked up around chapter 10/11.

If there was one thing that drove me insane, it was that Maddie was literally giving her profits away by comping treats to, everyone and their dog. It never seemed to dawn on her or Mags (the one who does the books & bakes) that that was a drain on the already strained finances. They both needed to be told that until flour, sugar, leavening and eggs are free, products made from them have a cost. I kept waiting for Maddie to be chosen to be on a show with a whip-your-business-into-shape guru to give her shop a tough love shake up to success. Luckily newpaper reporter Neal, hips her to rectifying her non-existant social media game. But mostly it's all okay because Maddie comes up with a brilliant idea to bring in business and prevails in the end but what is most fun is watching her ups and downs and rooting for her. Along the way she even finds romance with the grandson of a patron, Caleb. Maddlie's not the only one who finds love here (Nicky/Neal, Mags/Owen & Clive/Jane) and those were sweet to watch develop over the course of the book.

I wanted just about every baked good mentioned in this book but more than all, I'm inclined to find some apple crumble before too long. Recommended if you're in the mood for a sweet read that checks all the chick lit feels boxes.

The little teashop of broken hearts was just magical. There is a lot of love blossoming throughout the book with a lot of the characters getting together.

Maddie is the owner of the little teashop, shes a huge passion for baking and just wants her teashop to succeed. We see her fight to keep it open by introducing a dating night where people come and like speed date and taste a range of desserts in the hope they return to the teashop.

I would thoroughly recommend this book and is it is so cheerful. A perfect read for the upcoming Valentine's day.

A nice light romance with lots of yummy sounding baked goods. Just what I needed after having read several heavy duty books lately. The idea of speed dating with cakes sounds like a winner, and reminds me of my idea of speed dating with books, which never actually happened at my library, but sounded like a fun idea. It was just too bad no recipes were included!

The first moment I spotted this book at NetGalley I thought, what? The same title? Of course not, only a very similar one to the one and only "The Lonely Bookshop of Lonely Hearts" by Annie Darling. I think, as much as I love chick - lit and books set in bookshops, teashops and cafes, that the idea is slowly being over - used. Do the authors continue write such books because the formula proved to be very popular? I, of course, don't mean this particular novel - because if I were tired of such themed books I wouldn't request them - I am only talking in general. I requested "The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts" because a) I love Jennifer Joyce's writing, b) the synopsis was really promising and c) just have a looked at this gorgeous cover. I know. I KNOW.

Even though the book sticks wholly to the trend of making the heroine of the story an owner of a coffee shop/cafe/bookshop etc it was a lovely read ticking all the boxes for your normal chick - lit novel. Maddie Lamington has finally fulfilled her dream of owning a little cafe. The only problem is that it is tucked somewhere down a little street and nobody, except for a few regulars, has heard about Sweet Street Cafe. So Maddie has to think of something to let her keep on her dream - and fast! So what do you get when you combine speed dating and cakes, hmmm? A truly interesting idea, don't you think? However, right after finishing this book I can't stop feeling that the whole story was built around this idea that was then not developed. We hear tons about organizing the event, collecting the forms but where are the dates? And what was their outcome?
And till the end of this book I didn't know who is who. There were so many supporting characters and I often felt confused. When I had to put this book away and started reading again and some name was mentioned, it often happened that I was thinking it is a new character that was never mentioned before. I just couldn't grasp in what relationship they all stand to each other and what was the point of for example Rehana and George?

I really liked the romances in this story. The relationships between Mags and Owen and Maddie and Caleb took their time, had their ups and downs, didn't feel rushed and of course they could go two ways. There was not a sign of this over - used will they/won't they game and still the author has created two very realistic, heart - warming, blossoming romances. What was also great was the fact that the characters didn't fell in love after five minutes with love conquering everything.

Of course there were many things that happened very conveniently, just like this with the magazine feature or the TV crew. Also, there were moments that the story dragged too much for my liking and I had a feeling that we're staying in one place, that nothing's changing. But basically, there was nothing wrong with this book but also nothing that made it outstanding, and I think Jennifer Joyce has already proved with her previous books that she can do better. But of course I enjoyed it. Maddie's character was larger than life, lovely and inviting.

So as already mentioned, the book has it all: many lovely characters, a little romance or two, or even three, it's light - hearted with some twists and many mouth - watering descriptions of cakes. Light, predictable and easy read that makes you crave for a cupcake. Or two. Or apple pie. Charming, sweet, without adding unnecessary drama and altogether I enjoyed it.

When I first saw the cover and title for Jennifer’s book, I felt a sense of Deja vu and it took me a good while to work out why. But then, as I was trawling Amazon for more books (to add to my 42254456 (estimate) unread books on my TBR pile, I worked out why I got deja vu. The title is incredibly similar to a book that was published last year by a different author, but it really caught me off guard as I thought I had already read Jennifer’s book.
Maddie Lamington had a dream; a dream which was WAY bigger than her, but she was still going to try to achieve it. The thing is, whilst baking cakes are either a recipe for disaster or a recipe for a start, Maddie’s long-term dream doesn’t even come with a recipe. Lets hope her timings aren’t out and she doesn’t get a ‘soggy bottom’.
Firstly, excellent surname choice for Maddie! A very clever use of words! If you don’t know, lamingtons are a cake and Maddie makes cakes…
Whilst I am an absolute sucker for a decent cake and a good cuppa, I am finding the whole teashop/café settings a bit too over used. Don’t get me wrong, they are fantastic settings where chic lit’s are concerned; I just feel a bit full up of the same theme. Of course I don’t HAVE to read them, BUT seeing as many of my well liked authors are setting the scene in a café and writing them well, it’s a bit devil you do, devil you don’t. Yes, it’s popular, but so is cake.
Despite my slight irk with the theme (not the authors work fyi), I did enjoy this book overall. Putting cake and dates together was such a genius idea that was, indeed, thoroughly entertaining. Well, as well as tummy rumbling. Mine, not theirs.
There was a lot going on with most of the characters within the storyline and sometimes it was a bit ‘woah’, but looking back on the nature of the storyline and what had to unfold, the storyline needed those character dramatics to add more depth. A couple of the characters situations had me in hysterics and I thought (out loud); ‘you plonker’, because it was most definitely something I would have done! I’m not saying who’s as you need to find out for yourself so it has the right effect. So bonkers in such a light-hearted, fun way.
I really did enjoy the comforting vibe that Jennifer’s book gave me. The storyline gave off such a homely feel which made me feel warm and cosy the whole time I was reading it (apart from when I was salivating, but shhh).
Jennifer Joyce has put a unique twist on the popular teashop theme; and it works. The only thing about this novel that screams ‘samey’ is the title. The overall storyline screams ‘eat me & date me’, and yes, I’m talking about the cakes. It’s flirty, it’s fun, it’s refreshing but most importantly, you are able to eat as many cakes as you like without consuming any calories. Oh the beauty of stories.
The only thing that broke my heart about this book was that the cakes weren’t real. This is definitely a pick me up book on days where you feel as flat as a pancake as it will make you rise like a soufflé.
Thank you Jennifer/Netgalley/HQ Digital.

I am so happy that I have read this book! It was such a charming read! When I read the title "the little teashop..." I thought to myself... ah one more book about a girl that opens her teashop... there are way too many books on this subject I think. But this one was very good. The storyline is different. It's the first time I read about a teashop launching a dating service! What a great idea!
I also really enjoyed reading about the relationships between all the different characters. I loved reading about the friendship between the girls. And of course, I loved the main character, Maddie. I could relate to her in so many ways. I can only say that I absolutely loved this book. It was the first time that I read a book from Jennifer Joyce but I can already say that I will be reading her next one for sure!

After a steady diet of wartime era and family saga books, this little piece of sweetness was a welcome change. Misunderstandings galore with a satisfying ending. And what’s not to like about cake! Recommended as a quick, enjoyable read.

In The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts, Jennifer Joyce serves up a tale of romance and friendship just as sweet and delicious as a cake baked by Maddie Lamington. I really love Jennifer’s books. None of them ever fail to put a smile on my face when reading them. With The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts, I was snatching any moment I could just to read a few more pages and grinning from ear to ear when doing so. It’s an uplifting read with romances brewing from every corner and I adored every single page.

Maddie, owner of Sweet Street Teashop in Manchester, is feeling a bit deflated at the lack of new customers her beloved shop is bringing in. She bakes scrummy cakes and puts all her heart and soul into the teashop, so she is disappointed and feels like she has wasted the inheritance she got from her late gran. As the book begins, Maddie is brainstorming with her close friend Nicky, and her work friends Victoria and Mags about ideas to bring in some custom. A while later, inspired by Maddie’s dad and regular customer Birdie, they settle on a speed-dating idea which consists of five men, five women, servings of cake at each table and fifteen minutes for each pair to get to know each other over one of Maddie’s sweet treats.

Instantly, I loved the friendships within Jennifer’s new book. Maddie, Nicky, Victoria and Mags were very individual characters, all memorable within their own rights. I really liked Maddie straight away. I felt like there were a few traits in her character I could relate to, not least her speaking before she thinks, sweet tooth and close bond with her dad, and this had me rooting for her straight away. Nicky was the character who made me laugh the most throughout the book. She’s a fun and flirty character who likes to get the ladies out at any opportunity, so to speak, and I was always wondering if she would meet her match. Victoria is the edgier character, in a band, but she was completely harmless as long as you remembered not to hug her. I liked Victoria and how she was always willing to drop everything to help out more at the teashop. Mags, other than Maddie, was my favourite female character. I loved how she had eyes for builder Owen and was so oblivious to how he felt about her. She was a caring character and extra fun when she’d had a drink or three.

The bonds and solidarity between the characters in this book made it a really enjoyable read for me. There was a lot of chemistry between the characters in this book through both friendships and romance and with a whole host of likeable characters, I found this to be an irresistible read and one impossible to dislike.

Of course there is a trend, as I’m sure any reader of chick-lit and romantic comedies will attest to, of books set around a café or a teashop. Did that put me off? Not one bit. I actually haven’t read too many books set in that kind of location as those books in particular didn’t appeal to me. The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts hugely appealed to me. Jennifer’s books are always a real treat for me, she has quickly become one of my must-read romantic comedy authors and I really didn’t care that this was “another” teashop-set book. The speed-dating concept itself was original and intriguing and the romance was realistic and absolutely heart-warming, one of those perfectly feel-good stories that make you smile, fill you with optimism and have you desperate for cake. Provided you can resist any sweet treats (though resisting is not something I would recommend), The Little Teashop of Broken Hearts contains calorie-free goodness and an ending as satisfying as they come.

Maddie found her fiancee in bed with her best friend, a few weeks before their wedding. She took an inheritance from her Grandmother and opened a tea shop. She loves to bake and her cakes and other desserts are absolutely fabulous. Now, if she can get the shop to start making money, it will be wonderful. She is building a new life for herself. Her new life is without any connection to any man.

Working with Maddie is Mags, a divorced mother of two teenage boys. She does accounting and helps Maddie bake. She works long hours and goes home to her sons.

The third worker in the shop is Victoria. She sings with a band. Her boyfriend, Nathan, and several other friends make up the band. They will become a huge success, she is certain. And Nathan is such a kind and loving guy, until he isn't.

Down the street from the shop is Nicky. She runs a beauty shop which makes women even more lovely. Nicky is trying to find love. She has been having a long string of one night stands. She cannot understand why in the world none of the men ever call again.

This is a charming story about the surprising turns life can take.

The fact that Maddie is a wonderful baker is more or less a secret to most of the world. The ideas she has to bring in business do not seem to be successful. Then, by accident, things change.

The characters in this story are wonderful human beings. None of them are perfect people but all of them are perfectly terrific people. They care about one another. There is a generosity of spirit evident in nearly everyone we meet.

Everyone that is, except Maddie's mother. I found it difficult to understand why she wasn't slapped silly.

This is a happily ever after story. After all their ups and downs, people eventually work out their problems. The outcomes are just what the reader hopes for each character.

The story is well written. Ms Joyce has created a sunny place to live. This is a place which is populated by interesting and entertaining people. The action moves along at a good pace. There is tenderness and humor. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by Ms Joyce.

Absolutely delightful Brit chick lit--my favorite genre!

Maddie had opened the bakery that she always dreamed of owning; the only problem is she can't get customers into the shop. However, a connection between customers over apple crumble inspires her to combine dating with desserts. Through a loveable cast of characters and a dreamy love interest, everything works out. Sure, it's a little contrived, and the ending ties up loose ends a bit too neatly, but if you're picking up a book with a cover like this, then you know exactly how this type of book goes (and to be clear, that's a compliment; this really is my favorite genre!) Fans of Sophie Kinsella and Meg Cabot will adore this book.

I did knock off one star for a reason. *Details that are not spoilers ahead but do talk about certain characters in certain scenes.* There were a couple odd moments where the text jumped from one scene to another with no real transition, which was actually confusing. In chapter 15, Maddie is having a meal with her father, Birdie, Neal, and Caleb, brainstorming a name for her plan, but we never wrap up that scene or hear the end of the conversation before jumping to a scene with her mother. Then, in Chapter 37, Maddie opens her closet and bemoans her lack of dresses. The way it's written is redundant because we had already visited her closet earlier in the book and heard essentially the same spiel about how she mostly wears jeans and tshirts. It's almost contradictory because in the first closet visit, a different dress is described as her favorite than in the later visit. Just a few pages later, this scene with Neal occurs:

"You won't need to step in this time," he tells Nicky, who posed for a photo during the trial run.

However, that scene where Nicky poses is in the beginning of the book, so there's really no need to remind us that she posed before. We were there when it happened!

All this to say, the book could have used some tighter editing, but quibbles aside, it was thoroughly enjoyable and a fun read.

Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins UK, and Jennifer Joyce for the opportunity to honestly review this book as a digital ARC.

This was a cute book. Since this type of book is pretty formulaic, I'm going to point out the areas that I thought were unique.

-Maddie's business is in trouble. She doesn't automatically succeed just because her business sounds so good and the shop is cute. She chose a space off the main thoroughfare and she's not spent enough time thinking about how to get people in her doors.

-Speed dating with cake. I think the description of the book implies there's a magical realism element here and there is not. I love magical realism and I have an indefatigable appetite for it so I missed it. However, the other elements of the book are strong enough to overcome the lack. I did think the speed dating idea was clever.

-Maddie's parents are divorced and all the dust from that has not quite settled. Maddie's relationship with her mom is markedly different and Maddie's mom has some issues to address. Her relationship with her dad is sweet.

-There are a lot of different types of friendships in here and a lot of different women (and men). The author did a great job honoring those differences while keeping the book frothy and light.

Firstly, the whole idea behind this book is that Maddie (the owner of the teashop) needs to change her business model - and fast - as she's not making any money from her dream job. To save having a whole book about how Maddie does this, she could have just stopped giving away lots of cake to family and friends 'It's on me...' or baking up batches of stuff just because it was her staff's favourite... But that's just no fun. So in terms of being a book, it was good. A light hearted read with some funny moments and bursts of romance.

Since this story was about tea and cake, and I like both, I thought I would give this book a try. I liked the idea of Maddie owning her own tea shop. She had a tough go of it until she came up with the idea of speed dating and eating. Then the tea shop had plenty of customers. She also found romance along the way. The only thing I did not like was all of the alcohol drinking and references to sex in this book.

I may have given up on this one too quickly, but I just couldn't get into it. I was 13% into the book (according to my Kindle) and I could not even tell you what the main character looked like. The author described other characters, but following the main character around without knowing what she looked like was like following a ghost. I didn't like how the time line jumped from past to present. I wanted to care about the tea shop, but the author just didn't get me to care about the characters.

Maddy has had little luck with her tea shop. Though her baking is out of the world, and the tea shop offers beautiful products, there have been few takers. She has tried out fliers, sampling, all to no avail. Her partners and colleagues too have had little luck with life, or men. What can be the game changer? How can Maddy bring her take on happiness to the world? Enter a simple concept and its impact.

Great Book!

Writer started out with a tea shop/bakery in financial as well as possibility of closing it's doors! Why off the beaten path, great tea & and various desserts but couldn't get into a good financial place due to being off the beaten path......gets better and better from there how? Read and find out...... Great read....

I began reading this it was a cute, light read. But, when I got to chapter 15 where the main character had visited her dad and his friend for Sunday dinner, there was a sudden, unexplained scene change. We were suddenly back in the girls apartment, her mom was there, and I have no idea what happened to everyone else....so stopped reading.
Disappointed. 👎🏼

A Sweet Story

Even though you know where the characters will end up, reading how they get there was fun. I liked that conflicts don't go on and on. Most get resolved fairly quickly, but new problems are soon on the way. A relaxing read!

No, just no!!! Long, painful sweetness and cuteness. I thought it would never end! I’m not a chick lit reader so this was my fault. Got it for 2.99 @ Bookbub; pretty sure I need to give B.B. away as the choices are mostly too sweet for my taste.
