She’s sleeping with the enemy…

Caitlyn's life is running smoothly until she comes face-to-face with a cutthroat businessman who’s used to getting everything he wants. Problem is he wants Pat’s Pub—and he’s not taking no for an answer. Caitlyn should despise him for threatening her family’s business, but there’s something about Lucas’s dominant nature that awakens the hidden submissive inside her.

What should be a run-of-the-mill real estate acquisition goes off the rails quickly when Lucas meets the granddaughter of the owner. Lucas never mixes business with pleasure, but that rule is broken when he meets Cait. Soon the couple is thrust into a steamy affair that will ultimately force them to choose between family loyalty and love.

Slick's review:

4.5 stars

I feel like I’ve come home again, back safely in the bosom of the Collins Clan and sitting on my favorite stool in Pat’s Pub and I apparently have two people to thank for that, the author of this series, Mari Carr and author Lexi Blake who convinced her it was time for the 2nd generation of the Collins Clan to get their own stories. I’ll admit I was a wee bit nervous if Ms. Carr would be able to capture the magic of the first series and I was also a bit unsure how I felt about Caitlyn (Collins) Wallace being a submissive like her mother was in the first book of the original series, but leave it to this author to write a completely different story and also shed light that it was Caitlyn’s own mother, Keira, was the one who recognized her daughter’s submissive tendencies. What I loved about this book is that while we see a fair amount of the first generation of the Collins clan, it is largely in passing although Pat (Pop Pop) has a fairly decent role, and we see snippets of many of the second generation and while that could have been very overwhelming and the romance lost, that wasn’t the case. January Girl captivated me from the beginning and left me excited for what is to come in this new and exciting series.

As an attorney Caitlyn Wallace has worked to help the less fortunate, the downtrodden, and those who might not be able to afford quality representation and she and her cousin, Colm are proud of the practice they’ve built together. When Lucas Whiting, a Baltimore real estate mogul sets his sights on acquiring her family’s livelihood, Caitlyn is determined to make sure he knows it isn’t going to happen. What she doesn’t expect is for Lucas to come to her rescue with an ex-boyfriend who can’t seem to forget he’s an ex or her response to his dominate, take charge self.

The attraction, lust, connection between these two was palpable from the start and it was evident they were both somewhat taken aback by what they were feeling from the moment they met and especially after their first date. I loved that they were both kind of thrown by their reaction to one another, but what really made me see their connection was Caitlyn’s compassion towards Lucas even when she knew not all of his background was squeaky clean or good and the fact that Lucas wanted to prove to her that he could be a good man. He allowed her to be herself, to explore her every desire something she hadn’t really found in a partner before and while he challenged her he did it because he knew that’s what she wanted and desired. She made him actually feel, made him want more than the empty life he’d been living and he realized that there was more to life than making money and trying to please his father who has never been pleased a day in his life. They were good for one another in so many ways and while their relationship hit several snags, the fact they both were miserable when it did was proof what they had was way more than a casual fling. My biggest complaint is while this couple spent a lot of time talking and getting to know one another, I would have liked more time with them just being a couple away from their sexual encounters and their D/s play.

January Girl was an outstanding start to the Wilder Irish series and knowing there are eleven more books to come makes me one very, very happy reader.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have fallen in love with Mari Carr's characters in all of her books and this was no different.
Now on to the book itself.
What would you do if the person trying to shut down your family business asked you out? That's what Caitlyn has to figure out AND she is insanely attracted to Lucas. What happens is a stubborn Irish lassie goes up against a ruthless Lucas. Who will win and how will the Collins clan react? Great writing, unexpected twists and characters you can't help but fall in love with. This story is HOT and gets a little steamy so get a glass of wine and relax with the Collins eldest granddaughter.

If you haven't read the Wild Irish series you might want to to get more background but you don't have to as this can be a standalone book BUT you will want to see what happens to the characters as time goes on.

Incredible! The next generation Wild Irish is going to knock your socks off and spontaneously combust the rest of your wardrobe. The sparks fly and heat crackles from Caitlyn and Lucas as their first meeting happens in Pat's Pub, the family business Lucas is determined to buy and Caitlyn insists will never happen. Has Caitlyn found what she thought was never to be for her, a one and forever love? And can Lu cas really make a choice between his wallet and his heart? I'm still catching my breath over Lucas and hoping he reminds me to breathe.

If you haven't read the first generation Wild Irish you'd better catch up before January Girl releases next month. These stories are not to be missed.

January Girl is the first book in the next generation Wild Irish by Mari Carr.

Caitlyn is an attorney who helps out at the family business, Pat's Pub, and Lucas is the man determined to buy her family's business. When they both happen to be at the pub one night, they meet and the chemistry is off the charts. The only problem is they are on different sides. Lucas is so taken with her that he convinces her to one date with him. Caitlyn is used to negotiating and sees this as an opportunity to find out what plans he has for trying to convince her family to sell their business to him. She only hopes she can keep her one weakness a secret from him during their date.

Can Caitlyn convince Lucas to give up on trying to acquire her family's business. Is his attraction to her enough to change his mind? Do they have a chance at happily ever after?

Mari is a great storyteller and this story is no exception. I was immediately pulled in and could not put this book down. The chemistry between the characters is scorching and the storyline is one that will keep you turning the pages.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

So I devour books, read solidly 1 a day and the worst thing I can say about a book is that I don't remember a thing about it. This is never the case with anything Mari Carr has written Ever!

Mari Carl's Wild Irish series ranks up there with the  McGregor's in my list of top favorite families. There is so much love and loyalty and acceptance of eachother in the Collins family it makes you question how the rest of the world gets it so wrong sometimes. Life would be amazing if we could all live in a book:)

The next generation has been passed that same loyalty and love. Caitlyn is a fierce protector, funny, smart, a completely  good person inside and out, overall an amazingly strong female lead.

Lucas grew up with everything he could possibly want, money, talent and an overall drive to succeed at all costs. Having no idea he was missing anything at all until he meets Caitlyn and realizes she's the thing he needs most.

From the beginning their's is a battle of wills so hot and intense you wage it in your own head as you read.

The sex is off the freaking charts amazing. Lucas is all things Alpha and so ridiculously hot in the way he pursues her .

I think the thing  I love the most about January Girl was how much I liked both of the main characters. They feel like real people feeling and reacting to things just the way I would in the situation. It's the mark of a great writer when people come to life off a page and you feel invested in their Happy Ever After.

I highly recommend this book and the entire series. You won't regret diving into this amazing family .

I received the book as an ARC. I loved the book. In this book, you meet the second generation of the Collins family. While you do not need to read the original books the Collins family, it helps to do so. My first Mari Carr book was Come Monday (Caitlyn's parents story), and when I read that book I knew this was a book family that you wanted to read. Come Monday has always been one of my favorite books so January Girl had big shoes to feel and it succeeded. In this book you get the romance which is spectacular and hot, but you always get this amazing family!! If you have not met the Collins family then start immediately with Come Monday, and if you have met them, then immediately read January Girl!!! Loved loved loved this book!!!!

Wow.

I loved the Wild Irish series and am happy to say that Wilder Irish? Even better.

Mari Carr's next generation is off to an impressive and captivating start with January Girl. Strong characters and solid plotting anchor us as Ms. Carr brings on the feels and the fun and the fire.

January Girl tells us the story of Caitlyn Wallace and Lucas Whiting. Lucas is the super-wealthy businessman aiming to acquire Pat's Pub. Caitlyn is an accomplished lawyer mostly working on behalf of working class folks who often can't afford to defend themselves against such cutthroat tactics. Clearly they are on opposite sides of this battle and they ought to be enemies. But didn't someone say that one should keep one's friends close but one's enemies closer? ;) These two take that advice to heart with impassioned results, much to their families' and their own surprise.

January Girl kept me turning the pages with a huge smile on my face. I can't wait for more in this series!!!

Absolutely beautiful start to this series and I can't imagine it getting any hotter but I know it will. If anyone can be strong enough to date Cait with her family behind her I can totally see Lucas doing it.

This first book in the Wilder Irish series by author Mari Carr was freakin' amazing and it felt like I was coming home again; coming home to the Collins family that I loved so much. The author captured the essence of the Collins family without missing a beat. I got a bit choked up whenever patriarch Patrick Collins aka Pop Pop to Caitlyn appeared in scenes. I loved Caitlyn and Lucas together so much and enjoyed their scorching hot relationship. They were complete opposites and had to overcome his company's buyout attempt of her family's business. Love and loyalty were tested and I loved every minute of it. I am thrilled that the next generation of the Collins family will get their own story and the author nailed it with the first book in this new series.

Caitlyn and Lucas were pretty hot together. Their scenes together were Pretty Hot And Tempting :)

But what I liked the most, and wished there had been more of, were the family dynamics of the Collins clan. That may be weird, but I don't care. I love when families and/or friends have one another's backs the way that this family does/did.

I also liked that Lucas was honest with Caitlyn from the jump. There was no game playing, he was honest about his business dealings and his plans for her family's business. That gave him an A+ in my book.

I liked those things but there was still something missing for me. I can't actually explain what that was, but the entire time I kept telling myself that I'm liking this story, but...

Welcome back to Pat's Pub!
My first impression of Lucas.... asshole. He stormed into Caitlyn's world looking to tear her family's business apart and she completely threw him for a loop. Caitlyn helped introduce Lucas to his conscience and in turn, he helped opened the doors to her inner submissive. From the very beginning it was a battle of wills. The character development and progression of the story were spot on. What a great story.
What a PERFECT start to the WILDER IRISH Series!

This was an amazing story. This is the first book in the next generation of the Wild Irish series. Lucas Whiting's family deals with real estate and he wants the family's bar to tear down and build high end restaurants and stores. Caitlyn Wallace is a lawyer. She is close to her large family and will do anything to protect them, including "dating" Lucas to see what he is up to. Unfortunately, Cait develops feelings for Lucas and he for her. Lucas has to make some hard decisions about what is more important, getting the bar or Cait.
I loved this story and couldn't put it down. I was rooting for Cait and Lucas to realize what was important and I wasn't disappointed. The dialogue between Lucas and Cait and Cait and her cousins and the rest of the family had me laughing out loud. I look forward to further stories in this series. I can't wait to see what Mari Carr has in store for us next.

Some wild erotica. If you like S/D, that's your book.
The heroine was sucking hero's dick on their first date in public! And she called herself strong woman... I mean, you know this guy like 30 minutes and then you totally are 500% submissive with him??!!!

I’ve never heard of this author before and sorta picked this book up at random, from my local library.

Off the bat, it sets a really warm, fun family feel, set in a family-owned Irish pub, there’s lots to love … but it turns cringey quickly. I hung in there, trying to keep an open mind and I’m glad I did.

The characters are likeble, the female lead super relatable and so is the male lead as he begins to see things in a new light and tries to better himself.

Contains some D/S elements and this was well done, consensual. Overall not a bad read, especially considering all it needed to do was keep me company at work and help keep my neurodivergent brain on-task.

Thanks, Mari!
I’ll likely explore more from this author, at least for work-listens.

3.5 stars.

The narrator’s voice was okay, though at times her delivery could be robotic. I’d rather not listen to much else from this one. 3-star performance.

These two hot it off the mark when it comes to steam.

The chemistry between them is electric and Mari really did well with the BDSM aspect of the book. I didn't actually expect the book to take this route at all but I thoroughly enjoyed it and how the characters interacted with each other inside and outside the bedroom.

I love a series that includes family and Wild Passion has that in buckets. It made me want to read the other books about the parents because I felt as if I've missed out on something, eventhough they can be read as standalones.

I'm not a fan of quickness in relationships and these two after the conflict started setting up their whole life within a week. I did like how the heroine saw how them having make up sex wasn't actually fixing anything and she made him work for it. That bit surprised me and I really enjoyed it.

2.5 to 3 stars. Quite a nice romance, but I'm not too keen on the bdsm elements. I kinda skipped over those parts pretty quickly. It's just not really my thing. But it was a freebie, and a quick and easy read.

A bit too much like 50 Shades of Grey for me. At least though there was a good storyline to the book, not just sex. I did not care for the submissive context as I prefer to see women characters with a backbone who are not controlled by someone else.

When you spend the last three chapters wiping away tears first of sadness then of joy, you know your invested not only in the story but with the characters and their outcomes.

I loved the original series (wild irish) and if you haven't read that I suggest you do, while it will not stop you from falling in love with this over the top crazy lobeable family it will provide you with more insight into the dynamics of the family and of pop pop and his words of wisdom.

Mari does not let the series down with the first book on the next generation. Caitlyn reminds me so much of her mother and they have similar lessons to learn. Sometimes love comes from the devil himself.

When we first meet Lucas I didn't know whether to love or hate him and Mari portrays this character with so much depth and detail that it leaves me wondering who he's based on. He's so sure of his path yet conflicted by what he sees, a family that not only loves but truly holds no grudges. And for him it's the journey of discovering that love exists that's most exciting.

Two characters that are both so stubborn and stuck in their (opposite) ways are written with a beauty and charm that makes you fall in love.

Bring on the next Collin cousin and their story.

I have read other books by Mari Carr before and loved them. And this one is no exception. This book does continues with the Collins family of the Wild Irish series but it can be read as a stand alone. (Although, the other books in Wild Irish series are also fantastic.)

Caitlyn and Lucas spark as soon as they meet despite the fact that he and his company are trying to purchase her family pub and the rest of the neighborhood in a Baltimore neighborhood. They do steam up the limo, the boat and his condos. Yes, this book does involve S&M between consenting partners who are in a committed relationship. If the topic of S&M bothers you, I would suggest giving this book a fair shot if you are willing to open your mind.

The nice thing about the characters in this book is that while Lucas does come off initially as being stand offish, he does change as his relationship with Caitlyn grows. Her character also grows and changes.

The characters in this book are extremely well developed which is always a pleasure. And it is nice to watch the characters change and grow.

Does Caitlyn persuade Lucas to give up on his determination to purchase her family pub? Read for yourself and fall in love with the story told by a master author, Mari Carr.
