TBH I had so many expectations from the blurb.. but so many things didn't work for me
- the story had too many things going on and I was confused by the many side characters
- I'm not a fan of descriptive scenes with ex and/or details of domestic violence
- I don't get possessive heroes ready to share the heroines
- too much pushing away by the heroine
I'm disappointed
- did not like the over emphasis on the h's past/ calling her a whore again and again
I give it 1.5 only for the smokin sex scenes. But apart from that everything was..
Not safe
1.5/5

I have to admit when I first saw this book with the title Claimed by a King, I was going in blind and thought that it might be a royalty-based book. However, the King part was, in fact, the main male lead's surname. Camden King is 1/3 of the business. This is the story of how Camden King's heart softened and how he fell head over heels in love with his assistant Jade though of course, he would deny it heavily. The book starts with Jade having some time off and then opening her hotel door to Camden standing there demanding why she is having to time off. The pair then have a night of wild hot sex. The next day they return back to their normal lives but of course, the environment has shifted and despite the pair of them denying their feelings right the way through the whole novel and yes, I have to admit I did get frustrated with it myself as I was like Hurry Up and admit your feelings for Jade as he kept firing everyone who looked at her and getting all worked up and by the end, I was getting sick of his denying that he had feelings for her as it was freaking obvious. During the book too, we learn that Jade has a stalker and it turns out to be a cop who is related to her ex-boyfriend Tyler. I had hoped that we would have read a bit more into this storyline as it was considered a cold case and would have made an interesting mix to the King storyline as it did interweave but it was glossed over. If you are wanting a hot romance story and a strong alpha male to bend you into submission, then Claimed by a King by Lisa Lang Blakeney is the read for you.

Claimed by a King by Lisa Lang Blakeney is the First book in The King Brothers Series. This is the story of Camden and Jade.
Jade works for the King brothers and Camden is one of them. Jade and Camden have been circling around one another for a while but not doing anything about it.
Camden is a silent and deadly person who prefers to watch people before acting on his thoughts. Which is what he has been doing with Jade. But when she goes off to Maryland instead of a planned function he goes to find her and confront what they have been fighting.
Jade had an abusive father and boyfriend so she is a very guarded person who has always tried to protect her sister. With that abuse that has left her not wanting to make a connection with a man other than a quick encounter she knows sleep with one of her bosses isn't the best option for her. When they do that night it hotter than either one thought it would be.
But Jade tries to fight what they felt but Camden is letting her forget or is letting her go.
Really hot story!

fuck it...

it was nothing extra memorable, except for the growling, demanding alpha, sassy, punk of a heroine...and the love/hate relations...

and I guess, NOW was the moment, it all kinda sat right with me...

inspite of it all, (meaning the lame little deeds in the plot), I actually liked this one, quite a bit *wink wink*

Camden surprises his woman while sleeping, "someone is spooning me. Someone warm and hard. There’s a large, muscular arm tossed across my middle covered in a sleeve full of familiar looking tats. “I’m home,” Camden rumbles by my ear." It's obvious Camden doesn't take any chances where his woman is concerned:
As we climb the steps I notice a bulge under the back of Camden’s shirt. “What’s that?”
“My piece.”
“You brought a gun to my father’s house?”
I really liked this book, amd ****ole Camden.

WOW, once again Lisa has out done her self with this story. I'm amazed that I can even speak or think after reading this Alpha. The King or better known to Jade as King King just blew my mind right out of the water and into goo. Camden really is down and dirty alpha man that knows what he wants when he wants. Jade this alpha female in her own way was different in every light, she was strong, confident and tried hard to fight everything against her being on KING KONG. I just FLove that nickname don't care for hers that much but it fit the story super well. Cam and Jade had this love/hate thing going on seems like for many years and they finally seem to have had enough fighting around each other. Let's just say when these 2 get together the words really do fly right off the page. The hott and steamy sex scenes where to die for like wow, I never knew my face to get so red and blush like hell. I was sure that some parts I would have to check and make sure my damn panties didn't melt off. Thankfully I was given a warning that it would do that. The story flows really great and the pace let's just say it's fast but that all depends on the reader. I for one couldn't get the damn page to turn faster, I also know that I want to get a copy of this on audio lol. I so would recommend everyone reading the cousins series first as it will give you more of a insight on Cam and Jade.

Jade was a hard ass. Stubborn and combative. I get she had issues but I really didn't like her much throughout the book. She just came across like such a bitch. And I mean, I guess her and Cam were perfect for each other since he brought a good bit of asshole to the table too. Camden at first brought that sexy alpha-male vibes but then all his commands and orders really turned him into a an alpha-hole. The dominance tone for their relationship in and out of the bedroom was fine. Not too greatly detailed compared to others I've read but steamy enough. Bringing in his brother Cutter as a participant was super weird for me. I've read maybe one other book with that style to it, and for some reason the fact he was sharing with his brother just weirded me out, man. I can't even explain it. Jade never directly has sex with his brother Cutter, but he does touch and taste and watch. Again, the threesome thing is never my jam even if it's the lightest form of it (no penetration) - so yeah. Be warned my fellow readers.

All in all the book carried a decent plot of suspense to it but the steamy/romantical vibes just weren't there for me. I barely know what our h & H looked like since the author never outright gave us specific details. Most I knew was about Camden's kick ass bod and sleeve tattoos. Other than that the author left it all vague, much like their jobs because it wasn't until nearly half the book I understood about them being some sort of "fixers" for the rich. Major pain in the ass.

3.5 STARS

I received this book for free from Hot Tree Promotions in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Contemporary Romance.

Dual-POV.

Book #1 of series, that is a spin-off of another series.

Addictiveness: Medium-low addictiveness. This was a fast, fun read.
Character: hero 3.5/5, heroine 3.5/5, secondary characters 4/5, growth 3.5/5, real 3.5/5  Overall, they are ok characters. Cam is the quiet type. He is an observer that only takes action when needed. That worked ok with most people, but with Jade, not so much. Jade has had bad experiences with men. From her father, to her ex-boyfriend, she learned men couldn't be trusted. So, she decided that one-night stands were her thing, until Cam. I like these characters, but I wanted their arch more developed. I was left with some questions at the end.
Cover: art 4/5, title 5/5, subtitle 5/5, color-font 4/5, buy 5/5 I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I like the art, is sexy. I even like the idea of the strong, bold color, but I wish for a bit less, so I could see the art better. The title was great, but I wish the font a bit smaller, again just a little bit so I could see the art better. Overall, I think I would buy this book by its cover.
Plot: believable 3/5, conflict 3.5/5, dialogue 4/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 4/5, opening 4.5/5, pace 3.5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 4/5, twists 5/5  Great opening and wonderful ending. Interesting conflict and fun dialogues. Fast-paced with enough suspense to enhance the story. One unexpected twists that made the story enjoyable. Great prologue and amazing epilogue.
Romance: believable 4/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 3/5, steam 4/5 Great romance! Their chemistry could be felt from the beginning. The smut was great with several scorching hot scenes. The description was great and their love story was well developed.
Writing Style: Ok characters, good plot, great romance.

Freshness: I mean, this is a bit predictable, but when you a good plot and strong enough characters to carry on,  it is enough.
Plot:  It was a bit confusing. Some parts a bit rushed others not so much. It finished with a few loose ends. Specially, I believe because this is a spin-off from a different series, that I would have enjoyed more, if I had read the Cousins series.

This was a fun, sexy read! I'm interesting in Cutter and Sloan's book.

25/35 STARS – 3.5STARS  (3.5 stars between 24.5 stars and 27.5 stars)

Addictiveness: 3.5 Character: 3.5  Cover: 4  Freshness: 3  Plot: 3.5  Romance: 4 Writing Style: 3.5

Action 3/5
Angst 2/5
Darkness 0/5

Suspense/Mystery 0/5
Would I recommend?Sure. If you are looking for a fast, sexy read.
Would I re-read this book? I don't know.
Would I re-read this series? I think so.
Would I read more from the author? I will follow this series.

You MAY read this because you like the author; you SHOULD read this because you like fun romance; you MUST read this because you like your romance with a bit of smut!!!

I won this in a giveaway ... I'll say it over and over ... I just loved Lisa's book "Gunslinger: A Sports Romance", not sure how I found it ... I think through a suggestion through Amazon or something? Any who ... this is the 2nd book I have ever read by her. A times I was a bit like what? 'cause I know that sort of lust (I think I'll call it that over love?) never realized it would happen with brothers, figured folks who don't really know each other (some 1 who would not talk often or see each other over and over??!) ...think it could be awkward or moments of jealous, competitive-ness, or some hate, or anger. do men not compare like the ladies do? any who ... I enjoy the different characters. I just started book 3 ... in book #2, I love Sloan. She is my favorite character so far. I'll be back for those reviews. ( ;

Alpha male...Bold, Beautiful Woman

Camden is a smart, tech savvy alpha to Jade's bold, beautiful independent spirit. I love that she isn't a wimpy pushover and maintains her sense of self in her relationship with dominant Camden! Camden's rough edges aren't completely lost to Jade either, just rounded a little. A strong, power couple! HEA and sneak peeks for new couples included!!! Blakeney shines again through her sexy, confident characters and gives readers a great story!

*Highly recommend reading The Cousins Series FIRST for most enjoyment.

Couldn't finish this story

I really wanted to enjoy this story. I had it on my TBR list for a while, so when the last one came up for arc I jumped at the chance to read the first one. But man these two man characters are every where.
And the nicknames are horrible. He is suppose to be this big alpha "killer" kind of guy and yet he let's this 4ft nothing walk all over him and call him king Kong. I mean really?
And she seems to have a healthy sex life, which fine, but don't do it just because your ex beat you. That doesn't seem healthy.
Yea, I couldn't get into it.

It was quite confusing in some places as it's a spin-off from another series and to be honest it reads like you should already know the characters.
The relationship between the characters changes very quickly too.
Because of these issues I found my self saying "wait... what?" and checking to see if I'd missed a page or two.

Finally!! A really bad boy novel that makes no apologies!

I mean it. I’ve read many a “bad boy” novel/la, and no author has pushed the envelope to the point of being truly realistic. I’m tired of reading about mob romances that are so vanilla, it’s sickening. Bad is BAD.

Length: Short novel.

Character development: We have an interesting cast of characters. Roman may be a peripheral player, but he’s there to connect Jade’s back story to another series by Blakeney. Then there’s Jade – a very short, not dainty, hard-muscled woman whose been working for Roman and the twins Cutter (the charismatic one) and Camden (the quiet but very dangerous one). Their job? Deep intel. “Convincing” other people to see things their clients’ way. (Translation: Witness tampering.) All sorts of dark deeds and not necessarily avoiding the generation of dead bodies (all self-defensive, they say, but they sure now how to clean up their messes). They make no excuses about their profession. Jade’s there to make sure they get what they need, when they need it – all strictly professional with a “hands-off” policy. Their base of operation? A top-shelf night club that Jade helps run. Camden has his eye on Jade, doing everything he can to eliminate any potential suitors, even at the risk of really pissing off this short but very explosive concentration of street-smart femininity. The problem is that Jade doesn’t want to be beholden to anyone who wants to control and dominate her. She’s built enough walls around her heart from previous bad experience, and she hates her short-person nicknames. Really hates them.

Emotional factor: I am very satisfied how Blakeney wasn’t balking to be complicated with her weaving of emotional ties between Jade, Camden, and Cutter. Damn! Excellent work. And for some strange reason, I was not put off by the profanity. When I was actively editing, I often told my writers either to use it or not at all. Don’t sissify it. No baby-talk euphemisms. If we’re talking bad boys, let them talk like it. And in this tale, there is equal opportunity between the sexes because Jade can shoot it back to them like the best. The give and take, be it sassy or pissy, was written very well.

Speed of action: Usually, I like to see a comprehensive action story interwoven with the personal relationship story line. There were some interesting episodes that did more to support the relationship theme.

Predictability: Predictably unpredictable. Even the ending was… inconvenient but absolutely darling. Or as darling as this dark romance would allow.

Credibility issues: I’m sure there are people and organizations like the one Roman, Cutter, and Camden have created. Kind of scary when you think about it, but awfully fun to write about.

Grammar and technical errors: Nothing annoying. A few formatting issues.

I really enjoyed this novel. Finally something more realistic when we’re talking about dark romance. Camden has to be one of more controlling individuals I’ve seen written, and Jade can swear better than my navy guys at the VA. Really.

After listening to Indebted to a King, I couldn't wait to hear Camden's story and it did not disappoint. Camden is a man who knows what he wants and will do what he needs to get it. Jade works for the King brothers, and has caught the eye and heart of Cam. Being the employee though, Jade does not think sleeping with her boss is a good idea. With her past of an abusive boyfriend and father, she is not quick to let people in, and a relationship with Camden is just not in the cards. But is that true? When danger is lurking though, Camden will do anything to protect what is his, and Jade is his. I love the alpha protective male and Lisa Lang-Blakeney knows how to write them. The King twins are full of that safeguarding feel, always taking care and doing anything necessary. This couple, though at times frustrating with their combativeness has a playful side as well. The constant nurturing nicknames is fun and flirty and gives some tense situations that tension breaker. Seeing Roman and Cutter again also makes the story feel comfortable and gives continuity. Though part of the series, it definitely can be listened to as a stand alone novel and will make your ears happy.

Narrated by the amazing team of Aaron Shedlock and Tracy Marks, it comes to life with ease. Shedlock gives these men the warm, sexy sound to their women and will turn and give the low gutteral growl of dominance to their enemies. Marks always full of amazing emotions gives Jade that stubborn quality, with the hint of need and lack of self confidence. I love how she can make a character grow by the changes in her voice. Together this team is unbeatable.

There is something about a man that knows what he wants and will do anything to get it , whether you want it or not ! Camden is a very hot alpha male, he doesn't take no for an answer and you do not deny him what he wants ! Jade has been working for the King brothers for a while and as hot as she thinks the King brothers are there is no way she is going there with either on them ! Camden is going to claim his woman, the chemistry has gone from sizzling to boiling and it cant be denied for much longer and he wasn't going to let it !

Jade is stubborn and feisty and not instantly likable as a character but it does work well in the end , she is determined to keep Cam at arms length but it was a battle and she is struggling to win. Camden is possessive and Jade's flirting is going to get her into trouble. Jade doesn't have much choice when it comes to Cam although she puts up a good fight to begin with but my god when their chemistry hits its on fire !

Must admit I didn't really expect the story to go the way it did near to the end and surprised me seeing as Cam is so possessive. There are parts of the book that never really gave full conclusions but maybe this will come in the books to follow. It was a fast paced story but I like that in a book and kept me turning the pages. If you like bad ass characters you will enjoy this book !

I hardly ever rate books less than a 4/5… if I was entertained and I finish the book usually a 4/5 is my normal rating. BUT this book, while I was determined to find out what the resolution was, it is determinedly a dark Romance, not normally my speed, (i’ve read darker) but both of the main characters are bat shit crazy, in that “it takes one to know one” kind of way… and maybe that’s why they work.

The first two or three chapters were a struggle. I had an issue with his lack of receptiveness to her denial of consent. He wanted to be with her sexually and though she repeatedly said she didn’t want it, She physically responded to his seduction. though it was clear she wanted to be with him, she felt it was crossing a line, both personally and professionally, she never physically stopped him.

It was weird, I didn’t expect bubblegum, but it was not a book I will be reading again. I’ve read this author before and liked it alot (Jett) and do plan to read the rest of that series about football team, but this, this will be the end of this series for me. There’s a connecting series about one of the other main characters Roman (Masterson). I have that book. I got it for free and I won’t be reading it. T The sex scenes were hot but That’s not enough for me to read a book ever again.

Let me start out by saying that I LOVE Lisa Lang Blakeney's brilliant writing style, who is now on my go to list of addictions, as I can't get enough of her. Now that I got that out of the way, I'm going to let my crazy loose. See, I have so many insane emotions flying around it's unreal, and I'm not even sure how to explain them without spoiler douchery. Let's start with Camden King. Mouthwatering hot alpha? CHECK! Complete douche?! ABSOLUTELY! So true in fact, that I still want to junk punch him over & over again! He had a thing for Jade, told her that she was his, but still manwhored around while biding his time. Yeah that's about the gist of it. Jade was stubborn, there's no getting around that, but I loved her independent ways. However, I can't deny that their chemistry shot sparks out of my kindle either, so any sexy times that ignited from said sparks, lit objects close by on fire! Even the colorful cast of secondaries added all kinds of interesting things to the story! Plus there were a couple of twists that had my f-bombs dropping as colorful as Jade's colorful metaphor dropping skills! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is basically about two brothers and a best friend going into a fixing business, but they also have a night club. King wants Jade so bad but he has been patiently waiting for things to get better for her. That's funny since she works for all three of them. Helping out where and whenever she can. But he wants her for himself. But she is just trying to have fun, especially after her last relationship. (It was bad. Read the book to find out what happened.) But someone has been sitting outside her house and she is trying to find out what is really going on. But months before she went out of town and he followed her there and the sex they had (King) was just off the chain and now she is trying to get him out of her systems. And all he wants to do is make sure she understands that she belongs to him and only him. Can they keep her safe ... you will have to read the book in order to find out.

Still on the fence for this book. I hate to say it but I only liked the beginning and end of this book. The entire middle was a blur because I really just didn't understand this series at all. Camden was likeable only in the parts of the book that I liked, but other than that he was overly possessive and not that likeable. I also have no idea what these King brothers so. I was so confused unless I missed something. I felt no connection with the heroine, Jada.

I'm going to give the second book a try and see how I feel about this series. I guess for the most part I didn't care for this book, but I feel a little bad giving it two stars when I really enjoyed the beginning and last third of this book. I'm not willing to give up just yet.

I didn't hate this book, but I will say the flow of the story was slightly confusing to the point that I sometimes didn't know what the hell was going on. It felt like we were jumping all over the place and I would have to backtrack to see what had led to us getting to that point again just to see that it didn't match up.

This book also just wasn’t as lively as I thought it would be. The drama was pretty much finished up in a page or two. Nothing else. The relationship between the MC's also just went from not being there to being an actual relationship. The first time he called her "Baby" I was completely baffled because I had not seen that coming yet. It just happened.

All in all, not bad, but it does need some story editing for the flow.

I’m not quite sure what I was expecting, but it really wasn’t this. On the negative side of the coin, I definitely wasn’t expecting the descriptions of domestic abuse or the slut-shaming. But on the upside, I also wasn’t expecting the dominant, BDSM flair to Cam and Jade’s encounters that scorched the screen of my tablet. The push-me/pull-you dynamic between the pair pushed all my buttons and drove me to distraction. As did Jade’s, admitted, double-standard about honesty in a relationship. However, I loved watching every moment of Cam caring for her. I look forward to seeing what comes next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Y'all.

O_O

No.

I mean - I love the boss/secretary romances IN FICTION - but this one was just beyond WTF over the top.
Like she's in Baltimore in some hotel room for no reason AND HER BOSS HUNTS HER DOWN AND FUCKS HER AND WHAT?!

And I wanted to see how it was explained but I didn't get past her being at lunch with her sister because this was all just ... so. bad.
How her sister is a raging bitch and evil - and OF COURSE SHE'S FAT. A full 25 lbs overweight 🙄
Also sorry [not sorry] but being a TA is not that fucking fancy? What - is she getting her masters?
WHATEVER.

Just ... no. I'd read LLB books in the past and there were some issues but this one was ALL issues.

Research for a book is important. It’s obvious the author knows little to nothing about gambling so her entire casino scene in the book is distractingly inaccurate. I’m still not sure what the characters do for a living..... are they spies? Cops? Club owners? It’s been a long time since I left a book a one star rating but this book deserves it.

The relationship between the main characters consist of the female lead saying “no” repeatedly and the male lead pushing his way forward anyway. Now let’s not even mention that this man is her boss...... it’s the first of the series I’ve read and it will be the last.

I feel like I started reading the story at the 33% mark.

I've read LLB before, but not the Masterson series and it seems the writer assumed I was already invested in these characters, which I was most definitely not.

I'd say the first half of this book read pretty awkwardly, just because the writer hadn't really laid any groundwork. I couldn't really understand what was happening with the H/h. Their interactions were... odd and I didn't understand why.

I strongly recommend readers start with the Masterson series. Hopefully doing so will allow for a better experience with the King brothers.

Very entertaining and funny, this book had me laughing most of the time. The characters are strong, dominant with smart mouths. Camden and Jade our power couple in this book are a match made in heaven. They constantly spit and spat with each other and Jade is sassy as hell; I fell in love with her instantly 😂 ! Her smart mouth and sexy attitude gets her exactly what she wants and Camden is doomed. Intrigue, action, dominance, and dark issues are portrayed in this book as The Mastersons’ are involved. A very compelling and recommended read. Lisa is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.
