Still dealing with his personal loss and a severe injury suffered in the rescue of Igor and the captured girls, John is determined to reach Australia to punish the Russian president. But, the militia that had taken the girls is now surrounding the facility at Area 51 and is intent on exacting vengeance. John must battle his way free and find a way to make the journey to Sydney as Admiral Packard begins a mass evacuation of Hawaii.

Would be five stars, but Rachel kind of ruins the whole thing for me. I love the action, and John Chase is likeable, but the relationship he has with Rachel makes it hard for me to get through the books. Put him with Anna. Or maybe one of the infected. Any one but Rachel. I can't possibly be the only who thinks this....
As usual, I couldn't wait to read this latest book. As soon as it downloaded to my Kindle, I started, worked be damned. But I have to say, it was one of my least favorites. I really enjoyed the set up in the first few chapters, but it felt like the story didn't go anywhere. And I was annoyed by the characters, especially the female characters.
*minor spoilers if you haven't read up to this point*
I love, love, LOVE the series and the story as a whole, and I think the author is awesome, so it hurts me to write anything negative. But my god, enough with the Rachel jealousy drama! It detracts from the story and makes me really not like her and think less of John. If one started reading this series in the last few books, they would be like "wtf is with Rachel and John??? I don't get it." In the words of "General" Thompson - that woman is cray-cray.
She already was never one of my favorite characters, especially after the third book or so when she started with this sh*t, but now I feel like I'm not allowed to like any other character, especially female characters, unless they pass Rachel's test. Translation: I am only allowed to like a character if the Mean Girl approves. Ugh.
Vance, the creepy lecher guy, is given a pass because Rachel approves now. I mean, I can see it happening, but it's like she gets the final word of approval. Now John is allowed to like him, and therefore, us.
Even Katie, who was not exactly my favorite character either, we weren't allowed to like until Rachel approved her. (But dang if tears don't spring to my eyes whenever John thinks of her. )
Irina is cool, Jessica is cool (and totally crazy), Martinez was badass, even Nicole is cool (all Rachel Approved, of course) - but they're side/support roles only. At center stage, we now have Rachel and Anna - two supposedly brilliant, wonderful women who have been reduced to catty or incompetent when the sh*t hits the fan. You have this potentially amazing new female character, who (apparently) earns her way up through school and the ranks... but can't make a decision without daddy, and hubby, and now John Chase to explain everything to her. UGH! And Rachel. A twenty-something doctor in the making who loses all of her brain cells and only relies on her hormones the SECOND a pretty woman is introduced. Seriously, it's annoying. She's one of the people who should not survive the apocalypse.
Is it an effort to try to make the women "real" - it isn't real. It's insulting. Besides, John Chase gets plenty of unrealistic liberties as to the extent of his superheroism, why not the main women too?
It is not often a series, and the characters there in, catch your attention and refuses to let go. This is the second time I have read this and look forward to completing the following books.
I have always been a forever fan of the Survivalist Series by Jerry Ahern and his lead character John Rourke. This series and the development of the character of John Chase are very similar and just as entertaining.
I have and will continue to recommend both series to my friends and associates. Patton is an author to watch and follow. Hopefully with more great reads for all.
After reading the first 12 books in this series I have to say I was disappointed with this one. All of the books in the series kept me glued to the pages with all of the action and suspense regarding the infected but this one falls short of any. There's just a lot of behind the action talk and banter but no real action or suspense as is evident in all the other books. I'm hoping the next book picks up in these important areas which make the Dirk Patton book series number 2 in my book list.
The few civilians remaining become more enraged as they begin to realize the attack was unprovoked and the remaining civilians alive are to be left to perish or become slaves to serve the elite who initiated the entire fiasco. The ecosystem has been decimated and the entire planet is faced with starvation and annihilation within 18 months. Is there any coming back from this precipice? If so, it will require the help and cooperation of generations of sworn enemies both military and civilian as well as perhaps even a newly evolving race of infected???? Incredible series!
Dirk Patton has done it again. The depth that he brings to his characters makes you yearn for the next book NOW! This is the continuation of the Plague books so I will not go into detail -no spoilers here. Start with book 1 and you will devour these. His books combine military, relationships, politics, a new form of zombies and one special animal to deliver books that you can't put down. I highly recommend this series!!!!!!
I was having withdrawal without your amazing series to read. I have enjoyed every second of this series. Thank you so much for the continued adventures of these amazing characters. I highly recommend every single word of all of your books! Please write fast......cannot wait for the next chapters. Awesome!
Dirk Patton comes through again. He brings your interest right to the edge and then pushes a little more, ensuring that you are caught up in the constant action and often the desperation of the characters that he brings to life. Always leaves you wondering what kinda action is coming in the next episode.
I have enjoyed this entire series but this chapter was truly the best! I couldn't put this book down. I made the mistake of starting it in the late evening. Stayed up until about 4 AM before my body said enough, we need sleep. Picked it up the next night, earlier this time, and finished it. Great, great story!
Mr. Patton can tell a great story. I don't know how, but he has managed to keep a long series interesting and entertaining. He makes the characters come alive and keeps the incredible action going non stop! Very well written and kept me engrossed with the book!
Dear God! This was yet another fine example of why I keep picking book after book up! The characters are so strong - you want to love them, hate them, know them - heck BE them! Despite so much turmoil and twists and turns, these guys (and gals) just keep going. The story never seems dull - it's always fresh. Pick up book 1 and GO!
I can't get enough of Major John Chase and friends. Really glad the story took a turn for the better concerning Rachel. This author has really grown from book 1.
A new book by Patton is like a visit from an old friend, I never tire of hearing his stories, as far as I am concerned Patton and WJ Lundy have the market cornered on military\zombie fiction. There is those two and then everyone else trying to catch up
It was close ,pretty predictable except for our pilot and anna. I think we will see the general again. By the way what else is in area 51? Also how is the birth of infected babies going change the way we react to them?
Always leaving me hanging for more, you clever man. I was chomping at the bit several times, started to skip forward, realized I was breaking the readers' sacred rule. Jumped back in place. Maaan, going to 14 now. You are killin me. But I love the torture of a great book!
Exodus takes off from book 12 in a very interesting and novel way. There was more background into zero hour when it all started and plenty of fast paced action to keep you reading late into the night. As always, this series is captivating from page one leaves you absolutely begging for more.
Wonderful sense of urgency with a new set of characters only hinted at before are introduced. It is easy to recognize traits exhibited by the characters of the story in today's society and politics. It will be a treat to see who comes out victorious!!
As I have come to expect from Dirk Patton, the plot moves forward with a thrill a minute and not a few twists. This book introduces new characters and opens the way for the meat of book 14 which I am moving onto directly. This series of books can be likened to a sky box set in that you pick up book one and before you finish reading you have gone through the whole series up to date and have lost many hours of your life, your kids have grown feral, and you are impatient for the next instalment to be released!! Thanks Dirk. Keep 'em coming.
Patton writes brilliantly as usual but man these stories are too short. **Spoiler Alerts** I love how this book picks up right where the last left off, in area 51, Johns eye all messed up. I do not like Rachel in this book. I'm iffy with her altogether, when her and the pilot were lost in the forest she was great, independent girl power. But then she becomes needy and jealous really his wife just died. Irina and Igor are amazeballs!!! Irina is like super smart and Igor is so tough. I like the new characters and back story, Anna is interesting and Pablo, goose and bunny seem like the team needed to kill the Russian president. Can't wait for the next.
