A Susan Mallery charmer in ebook for the first time!

Firefighter Jake Stone is hot for his best friend Lily, but one thing after another has kept him from staking his claim on the beautiful nurse. First she got engaged, then she was jilted, and now she’s pregnant—via a sperm bank! She was so sure love had passed her by, she decided to have a baby on her own. Before Lily’s due date, Jake will have to woo her, win her, marry her, and convince her that he wants to be a dad to the baby she’s carrying…and maybe a few more. #1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery writes heartwarming and humorous novels about the relationships that define women's lives—family, friendship, romance. She's best known for putting nuanced characters into emotionally complex, real-life situations with twists that surprise readers to laughter. Because Susan is passionate about animal welfare, pets play a big role in her books. Beloved by millions of readers worldwide, her books have been translated into 28 languages.

Critics have dubbed Mallery "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!" It's no wonder that her books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list.

Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.

Susan lives in Washington state with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.

**MEDIUM SPOILERS**
This novella is part of a trilogy that is about women who find love while pregnant through artificial insemination. The three women had been friends and they decided to get pregnant if they were 34 and had not found Mr. Right. While each novella had a standalone romance, the relationship between the women connected the stories. Lily, Rachel, and Jenna had been fast friends, but when Rachel unknowingly sleeps with Lily’s fiancé, their friendship breaks up. Jenna is pulled in two by Lily and Rachel and retreats from both of them. During this book, they mend their relationship with a component of the story happening in each novella. I do not recommend it as a standalone.
The book is part of the Logan’s Legacy series which is longer than three novellas, but I think the later ones are unrelated.

Though this is a novella, the author was able to do a good amount of character and relationship development.

Jake and Lily have been friends forever. When Lily started dating Michael, Jake realized he loved her. Michael cheated on her with her friend, Rachel, and Michael and Lily broke up. It also damaged Lily’s relationship with Rachel. Rachel had not known who Michael was so she did not deliberately sleep with her friend’s fiancé. Medium spoiler…During this novella, Lily comes to terms with what had happened with Rachel and reaches out to her to renew her friendship.

Jake wanted to tell her then that he loves her after the breakup with Michael and the fall out with Rachel but decided to give her a little time. Then Lily decides to get pregnant and he decides to wait again. His mother lovingly pushes him to tell Lily. Then, Lily suddenly proposes to Jake and he accepts but there was not a clear explanation for why she did so. This should have been fleshed out a little more.

The story alternates between Lily and Jake’s point of view.

I liked Jake’s relationship with his family. His mother and sisters are terrific.

Lily and Jake had a great caring relationship. The change in their relationship was not seamless but that makes sense. I thought it was a warm story of two nice people who change their relationship from friendship to lovers.

The three novellas in this series should be read in order and work better as a trilogy than as individual standalones. There is an epilogue in the third novella that ties the three stories together.

A couple who can't recognize their real feelings

While I enjoy Susan Mallery's writing, I found myself annoyed by each of the couple. Considering that a direct conversation between them would have eliminated most of the difficulties this couple had, I found myself wanting to shake both of them while shouting 'Be Honest about your feelings'. I did like the characters in this story and enjoyed their families and lives.

Friends to Lovers

A great feel good read focused on the journey of two friends as they move to lovers. Add in a pregnancy, a new house and loving families and this book is a treat. Sweet read.

Short and sweet

Lily and Jake have been friends for years, always "there" for each other. And also hiding how they really feel about each other. Like most of Susan Mallery books, there's a very happy ending!

Heartwarming

A quick, fun read. Can Lily and Jake go from best friends to something more? A sweet story with love, humor and a HEA. There were a few errors that better proofreading should have caught but, overall, it was a very nice story.
