A Chicklit Christmas Novella

When Zara’s boyfriend can’t come home to Sydney from New York for Christmas she decides to go to him instead. Sure, the ticket costs a bomb, and her overbearing family thinks it is a bad idea, but that’s what you do for love right? Or so she tells the tall and hunky ex-basketball star, Kyle who is squeezed into the plane seat beside her.
But when a blizzard hits and she finds herself snowed-in in Denver a few things become clear – her boyfriend isn’t that heartbroken about her absence, the airport doesn’t seem like a very festive place to spend the holiday and there aren’t anywhere near enough pumpkin spiced lattes to fix the situation.
So, when Kyle offers to take her to stay at his buddy’s empty house, she decides to take a chance and make the best of her first white Christmas. What she hadn’t banked on was Kyle’s ex and a reality television crew crashing the Christmas party.
If you like fun and flirty heroes, ugly sweaters, snow covered mountains and sugar cookies, you’ll enjoy reading Snowbound these holidays.

First, the disclaimer. "I was provided a free copy of this book. Actually, I bought it when it was free, off Amazon. All opinions are my own." That done, second, a warning. I usually only read certain kinds of books, and well, I was drawn in by the cover, and the happy promise of chick-lit (which I do love) and well, you know. I was not expecting a book with bad words or drinking or well, um, certain indoor sports. So if you are the same type of reader I am, this is not your book.

However, if you don't mind the above then this book was everything promised in the last sentence of the blurb above. Fun and flirty, ugly sweaters, snow-covered mountains, and sugar cookies. I might even capitalize the FUN part.

A multiculture, cross-ocean, romance that is every bit as fun as promised.

Snowbound was a nice, funny and easy to read Christmas story.

I didn't know Monique McDonell before but this novella caught my attention and the lovely characters made me care for them and their relationship made me all warm inside.

I recommend it to the people that want to spend some lovely time on the couch under a warm blanket by the fireplace.

Snowbound by Monique McDonell was an entertaining, heartwarming, holiday romance. I found myself finishing the entire thing over just a few hours.

Zara is on a plane, flying from Sydney, Australia, to New York, to see her long distance boyfriend. It's the first time she's ever spent Christmas away from her family, and really a spur-of-the-moment decision to splurge on the plane ticket, but she hasn't seen Mike since he took an accounting job in the States back in April. Trouble is, she gets snowed in at the Denver airport and has to make the most of her time in Denver, since the forecast of her getting to New York looks pretty bleak. Luckily, the friendly (not to mention good-looking) Kyle who sat next to her on the plane is there to keep her company and bail her out of a situation of having no place to stay. When Zara unveils that an ocean wasn't he only distance Mike had apparently been trying to put between them, Zara warms to the idea of exploring some sparks between her and Kyle, and that's when things really start getting good.

A notable quote from the book:
This tree was beautiful but it did not have soul. Kind of like my relationship with Mike. I'd been a pretty decoration, but I hadn't been treasured.

I found this book to be really laugh-out-loud funny in many places. In other places, I found myself saying, you know, I wish more people would act like that. I found the pacing to be great, especially for a novella, and while there were a few typos here and there ("in to" instead of "into," and a couple of instances of switching from past tense to present tense), overall I thought this was a very well-written book. I especially liked how Zara's family is written to be so prominent in her life, even when they aren't around. She's got this huge, nosey, pushy, Italian family, but she appreciates them at the same time.

Quote:
I could hear my mother's voice here with me in the shower. "Zara, just because we want the cake doesn't mean we should have the cake."

Needless to say, I recommend this great little read for some heart-warming romance, Holiday cheer, and a sweet HEA.

(4.5 stars) - a Christmas beach read!

This was a very enjoyable story. Zara is a mite too perfect, but I don't mind a little dose of fairytale in a Christmas story. And this one manages to be pretty entertaining.

However, I do wish the reviewer who said this was clean had been a little more detailed since that label can vary from squeaky G to push-the-boundaries PG-13, depending who you ask. The main characters do get a bit randy & eventually have sex. Technically, it's clean - we get the lead up details, but we're spared any graphic details - however, those who prefer their clean without the steamier, lusty bits will want to pass

*Romance level: passionate kisses, see previous details above; it'd receive a PG-13 rating by the MPAA

*Language/Religion: secular, a few minor swears, about a dozen uses of God's Name trivially (ie in vain) including one to curse in the story + as a curse in the sneak preview at the end

I found this book discounted via Christmas in July; this is my honest review
-Sweet story. Clean too. They did stuff but you don't see anything.
-First big LOL. Jerome can have anything he wants; he even has a jet. I seriously doubt he has instant coffee in the morning.
-I'm not sure why big influencers think it's okay to ask for free stuff from a small entrepreneur when they have money to buy it and wear it on site if they wish. But asking for free stuff is a red flag for me.
-Kyle is the epitome of a nice guy and the douche bag is the jerk of all times. Well done.
-Unputdownable kind of story. Fast reading too.

I purchased a copy of Snowbound A Chicklit Christmas Novella by Monique McDonell and this review was given freely.
The extroverted Australian fashion designer Zara gives a realistic and somewhat snarky rendition of the drama, inconveniences, and friendships made while cross continental traveling on a busy holiday weekend, breaking up with her long distance boyfriend, and entering a "Fake" relationship with pro-basketball coach Kyle.

I loved every page of this fun novella, Snowbound. Zara, a feisty and very capable fashion designer from Australia and Kyle, the handsome and very kind former basketball star are a delightful pair. Since it's Christmas, why not throw in an ex girlfriend to provide hijinks? Toss in a large Italian family and this book is brimming with love and food. I love Monique McDonell's writing and hope you enjoy this holiday cheer as much as I did!

I was looking for a quick read to brighten my day and I certainly found it with Snowbound. Delightful characters, strangers thrown together in unexpected ways weave their way through difficult situations and manage to come out smelling like roses. They form a friendship during their time together but will that friendship continue when they return home? Do yourself a favour, read this novella and find out.

A fun, cute, Christmassy romance. I've been saving this book for a day where I could curl up and read it in one sitting. Finally, I found the time and I was not disappointed. With a cute romance and lots of festive activities this book was the perfect story to lose myself in. The MC, Zara, was a likeable character and she felt realistic. It was a fun and charming read to curl up with on a cold afternoon.

Funny and cute

Love this story. Kyle and Zara, one long flight, then snowed in. Making the best of a tough situation. Then add is some more drama with a break up, toss in one beauty ex girlfriend. This spells one thing. Finding love, with a great sense of humor. Loved every page.

Hits the Christmas spot

Best part a strong heroine, a woman who sees herself clearly and tries to do the right thing. Who says nice girls have to be meek and assertive girls can't be nice?
